Should The Lakers Have Traded for Jason Kidd & KG in 2007?

As We All Know had the chance in 2007 to Get both Kidd & Garnett buth both fell through what would the team be now had that happened with Kobe, Jason Kidd & Kevin Garnett would have Won the 2 back to back chips or maybe even more?

Nah we ended up winning two championships and getting two more valuable players after that.

No, I don't think giving up our entire roster for 2 aging players would have been enough to win it all. SA, Dallas, and Phoenix still would have been better than us in the west IMO, unless by some magic wand stuff Mitch would have put a decent team around them. But no I'll take the for sure 2 titles we do have and a future to look forward to with Howard as opposed to trading our future for maybe winning titles and then being stuck with ancient players with terrible contracts (although I suppose they both would have expired this past offseason).

No, but a prime Kobe and KG would have been the most intimidating tandom for opponents.

I don't really care for Kidd, never have tbh.

The real question is, if GP had reported to Boston, and had Marcus Banks in a Laker uniform, would the Lakers had won 70 games and the title that year?

And really after discussing it and saying no for any other reasons, this is the real answer to the question. Our best players back then were Kobe, LO, Kwame and Bynum (and Bynum was only by default because he hadn't emerged yet, his value was potential and height) , how were we going to trade for Kidd and KG with those assets alone?

wow, we are on the cusp of starting a new season with Nash and Howard....the last thing we should be pondering is what ifs from 5 years ago. Especially when the reality of the last 5 years have been awesomely unbelievable

^ I agree to an extent, I would have taken chances on a 28 year-old KG in 2005... maybe. But in any year after that? I say no, because by then we had traded for Kwame and any deal would cost us both Bynum and Odom. So 2007? No way. Pau was far and away the best deal for LA.

But if that deal happened in 2005, I would assume that our package would include Butler-or-Odom + our 1st rd pick, which ended up being Bynum. So would you rather trade Bynum for KG, or trade Bynum for Dwight? KG is no slouch but I'd go for Dwight.

Also, KG is a douche.
