Sportsline's Third-Quarter Report: Team Grades - LAL gets C-

Grade: C-

I'm barely passing this team because of what it's been able to do the last month as it finally begins to look like a team that should make the playoffs. If Pau Gasol comes back early and the Lakers can work him seamlessly into the mix, maybe they can start thinking first-round upset. However, that injury to Kobe Bryant's ankle (dirty or not) just threw a giant wrench into everything.

they have had the 3-5th best record since the all star break and they get a C-? hmmm.. If we are talking over the course of the whole year then I'd agree.

I'm with them. Just barely passing because of what we've seen so far. The only way to get anything over a C would be to get to that 6th spot.

Keeping hope alive!

I think is about right. I may have given a C+ at absolute best. In this third quarter, what we've basically done is....

- Beat most of the teams we're supposed to beat anyway
- Lost to some of the teams we're supposed to beat anyway
- Lost to all of the teams that are better than us

Based purely on record only, and not actual play, then I would say it needs to be higher. But based on play, we've done just enough to "pass". I think it seems like we should be getting a higher grade because of how we played prior to this time period, but I think the article (and me too) look at our current play relative to expectations which are much higher.

Pre-allstar break = F- / Post allstar break = A-

I guess that averages out to about a C-

Based solely on the third quarter: B-.

We're beating teams we should, but we're not winning the big games on the road where we need them. That's going to determine whether we make the playoffs or not.

We're solid at home now, it's all about the road.
