i think cook would be better served at SF, but then again if he bulks up a little, he is definately PF material.

Regardless if we trade for Gary or sign him with the MLE, I don't actually care. As long as he signs.

Let say we sign Gary with our MLE.
Which power forwards out there are willing to take the LLE??
Does anybody know??

Nice handle KObe better than MJ. Welcome to the site!!!!

DEFINITE LLE CANDIDATES..... unrestricted free agents

TYRONE HILL will be a candidate.... he rebounds well

Tony Massenburg...... veteran but doesn't do much just a big body

Don Reid...... same player like Massenburg

Mark Bryant.... ditto

----sad looking bunch huh?

PLAYERS NOT GOING TO TAKE THE LLE....unrestricted because they are either still young or too talented or could care less about a ring

MALONE........ will not sign nothing less than 4.5 if that!!!
PJ BROWN....... SPURMS will offer him the most money 7-8 mill type player
HOWARD... still young (29) approaching his prime...
Elden Campbell... no explaination needed
Mourning...... health issues but there will be a team that will pay him the big bucks and are hoping for the best.
Derrick COLEMAN...... too greedy and will not settle for a ring. He has different priorities and one of them is not getting a ring

hmmm it doesn't look good about obtaining a quality big guy. TYRONE HILL is not bad. He can back up COOK and SHAQ. *COOK NEEDS TO START HE WILL BE OUR PF OF THE FUTURE. We can always trade for RATLIFF if ATLANTA wants to still trade.

Luke "I am your father" Walton should be able to play multiple positions for us. He can play the point in a Laker version of the Bulls point forward position, and can definitely play small forward.

Plus, I love his new nickname.

Starting Line-up ( latest version off the press)

Postby Shaq Fan on Sun Jun 29, 2003 6:57 pm

oh here is how I think the 2003-04 laker line-up will look like!

PG) Payton/Fisher(trade Pargo)
SG) Kobe/Rush(trade or release Shaw) *I think Rush is the future of the franchise
SF) George/Fox(who should come off the bench)/Walton*maybe not even sign him
PF) Howard/Rob Horry/Madsen
C)Shaq(DA'MAN)/Cook

IR: Medvedenko

so we got rid of: walker, shaw, pargo

Personally I don't think we will trade Pargo, it is more likely we would trade rush if we were to trade one of the two and I would rather rush leave than Pargo, who do we get from this deal, I think Walton will be on the roster because he will help this team, possibly now but definitely in a couple of years. His style of play resembles that of a Fox or Pip. And I would be surprised if Horry will still be around, especially since we have until tomorrow to re-sign him. If we do sign him it will most likely be as trade bait.

Payton/Fisher/Pargo
Kobe/Rush
Fox/Walton
PJ Brown/Cook/Medvedenko
O'Neal/ ?

There's no way we can have Payton plus a gud PF n keep Horry or George guys, remember the salary cap, since it looks like Payton will come with the ML,we will have to do a trade to get P.J.Brown,the ideal PF for me,defense, rebounds, blocks,a hard n strong player.Howard is not that kind of player that we really need.
Hopefully we will resign Horry n then we will trade him.
I have no clue about the center we might get to replace O'Neal,i guess a veteran with the minimum contract, hopefully a guy better than S.Samake.
We could also use the $1.2 million exception if we get a PF via trade.
We will what happens very soon :man13:

Nice line up... dont forget that Fox is hurt and we have the LLE ..... Adrian Griffin would be a nice fit and give great D at the 3

1 Glove / Fish / Pargo
2 Kobe / Rush
3 Griffin / Luke / *Fox (IR)
4 PJ Brown / Cook / Slava
5 Diesel / Scott Williams (vets min)

PG - GP, DFish, Pargo
SG - KB, Rush
SF - Walton, DGeorge, Fox
PF - Tyrone Hill, Brian Cook, Slava
C - Shaq, Madsen

Maybe horry and shaw might fit in somewhere there. I think this line up is more realistic then other ones. If you have some realistic ones post them up. There are a lot of players that i want the Lakers to sign but it will not happen. I guess its just wishful thinking.

Hello everyone, Im new to the forum, but Id like to add my thoughts.

PG - Payton, Pargo, Lue
SG - Kobe, Rush
SF - Fox, DGeorge, Walton
PF - Howard, Brian Cook, Slava
C - Shaq, Madsen

They need a power forward that will occasionally make a jumper, and I think that they know that.

Zetawood.... your line up looks the most realistic....
I believe that if we somehow we land a Payton the only money we have left to spend is the LLE. Tyronne Hill is the person who I see who most fits thats LLE.
heres my line-up:
PG:
(premiere PG... not going to say who yet) / fisher / pargo
Shoot guard:
KOBE / PIKE (LLE) / Rush (hopefully gets better)
SF:
George ( will see PT in SG spot when KOBE rest) / Walton (goes to SF when George goes to SG to relieve KOBE) / FOX (i.r.)
PF:
Brian COOK (the only way the kid learns is to start him, he is 6'11" 240lbs, athletic, spent 4 years in COLLEGE... he is ready to contribute. We can always double his man until he gets the feel for it defensively) / SLAVA ( could also see time in the SF spot and C spot. He is not the prototype PF but he can shoot the lights out!!!)
Center:
SHAQ / Tyronne HILL (for the LLE)( banger, rebounder. Can help in the PF spot also)

I don't think Cook will be starting, especially since Phil hates to play rooks. I think we're gonna get some needed help at the PF spot. We'd be too weak like that.

HERE IS A BETTER IDEA, TRADE FISH AND A #1 NEXT YEAR FOR PJ BROWN (APPROX 4 MIL SALARY)

SIGN THE GLOVE FOR THE MLE (4.7 MIL)

SIGN DARRELL ARMSTRONG TO LLE (SHOOTING AND DEFENSE)

1 GLOVE / ARMSTRONG / PARGO
2 KOBE / RUSH
3 DEAVEN / LUKE / *FOX
4 PJ BROWN / COOK / SLAVA
5 DIESEL / SCOTT WILLIAMS (VETS MIN)

ONE GOOD AND ONE MARGINAL PLAYER WONT CUT THE SPURMS HAVE 14 MIL TO PLAY WITH........GET CREATIVE MITCH... :man7:

Starters:
PG - Gary Payton
SG - Kobe Bryant
SF - Devean George
PF - Juwan Howard
C - Shaquille O'Neal

Bench:
PG - Derek Fisher
SG - Eric Piatkowski / Kareem Rush
SF - Rick Fox / Luke Walton
PF - Brian Cook / Mark Madsen
C - Stanislav Medvedenko

Throw one guy in a suit for a bit and you have your 12. Maybe not very possible to pick up 3 quality free agents, but Phil did say after the draft they're looking to add about 4 new faces to the team. So for my (or Jerry's) money I'd love to see this lineup.

I see two possibilities

1.

C-Shaq/Madsen
PF-Howard/Slava/Cook
SF-George/Walton
SG-Kobe/Rush
PG-Fisher/Lue/Pargo

IR:
Fox

Howard for MLE
Lue for LLE
Madsen re-signed

2.

C-Shaq/Madsen
PF-Campbell/Slava/Cook
SF-George/Walton
SG-Kobe/Rush
PG-Payton/Fisher/Pargo

IR:
Fox

Payton for MLE
Campbell for LLE
Madsen re-signed

I don't see us getting a top PF (Howard/Malone/PJ) AND Payton. We just don't have the tools to present a decent sign-and-trade proposal to any teams. So basically our options are:

A) Sign a top PF with MLE ( Howard/Malone/PJ)
-Sign Lue with LLE

B) Sign Payton with MLE
-Sign average PF (Campbell/Coleman/Hill) with LLE

Either way, we would be good enough to win back the trophy.

We could swing this little scenario:

Trade Slava and Pargo for Lue and Kwame Brown (rumor section)

Sign GP with the MLE

Sign Eric Piatkowski with the LLE

Sign The Rookies

Here is the roster:

PG: Payton / Fisher / Lue
SG: Bryant / Piatkowski / Rush
SF: George / Walton / Fox (IR)
PF: Brown / Cook / (bargain PF)
C: O'neal / (bargain C)

Since there are very few LLE and MLE teams out there (because most teams don't want to spend over and take the tax hit and the others [the 5 or 6 others] will be jostling for the high names) we can sign a player like Tyrone Hill for the minimum contract sine he won't beat out the other big names for the few LLEs that will succeed the MLEs for the big names...so we can get bargain players to fill the bottom of our rotation!

nice. that's realistic and we'd have a young, deep, solid roster there. I'd then go for Tyrone Hill with the minimum and exercise that Hawks-Lakers sign and trade with Horry, Madsen and Fish for Terry and Ratliff. Now here's our roster:

PG: Payton / Terry / Lue
SG: Bryant / Piatkowski / Rush
SF: George / Walton / Fox (IR)
PF: Ratliff/ Brown / Cook
C: O'neal / Tyrone Hill

I'd go radical and use Kobe as the SF for the regular season, so we can start Terry at the SG position. That way we maximize our talent and Terry is happy with a starter position. Here is our rotation for the regular season:

PG: Payton (33 mpg) / Lue (10 mpg) / Terry (5 mpg)
SG: Terry (25 mpg) / George (15 mpg) / Piatkowski (8 mpg)
SF: Bryant (35 mpg) / George (8 mpg) / Piatkowski (5 mpg)
PF: Ratliff (25 mpg) / Brown (15 mpg) / Cook (8 mpg)
C: O'neal (35 mpg) / Hill (13 mpg)

That makes everyone happy...and the opposition is reduced to tears... :man6:

Then, when Rick is healthy and the playoffs are here, this is my main rotation:

PG: Payton (28 mpg) / Terry (20 mpg) / Lue (not on playoff roster)
SG: Bryant (38 mpg) / Pike (10 mpg) / Rush (not on playoff roster)
SF: George (28 mpg) / Fox (20 mpg) / Walton (emergency use only)
PF: Ratliff (30 mpg) / Brown (18 mpg) / Cook (emergency use only)
C: O'neal (38 mpg) / Hill (10 mpg)

That is a hell of a roster if you ask me...it would be amazing if Mitch pulled it off though...

Hello all, nice to be here.
Ratliff and terry would be nice but i dont think that Horry is gonig to resign with us since he could get more money somehwere else. He would sign with us only if we could not get malone or gary. He said he would understand not resigning him if they get someone he respects like Malone or Gary but he dissed both PJ and Juwan and said that he is just as good as them. I would agree with him only if his knees held up. He is only 32 you know

Heh, these 'new rosters' have gotten somewhat more and more unrealistic. #1- the Bucks will not sign and trade for GP because if they are rebuilding there is no way that they would want 8 mil in cap space taken up by Horry and anybody else we might offer. (I know, I know, it means they gave Ray Allen up for diddly and squat but nobody ever accused the Bucks of trying to win a title...) Let's face it, the Lakes don't have much in the way of impact players-or anybody anyone might want in the way of trades- other than Kobe and Shaq. Remember that Toronto trade? So the only way the Lakes get Payton is with the MLE. After that the VE remains to sign either Hill (a great fit if he'll come) or somebody like Piatkowski. While it would be amusing to watch the some team get robbed again- like stealing Terry from Atlanta, it just won't happen.
The lineup then looks sorta like this:

PG Payton, Fish, Pargo
SG Kobe, Rush
SF Cook, Walton, Fox (IR)
PF Hill, Medvedenko
C Shaq, Madsen

This lineup leaves a gaping hole at SF where 2 rookies would be splitting time, and Cook in particular would maybe be better suited at PF. However, Fish becomes expendable at this point and could maybe be moved for a starting 3. Who that is I have no idea but many teams are lacking at the point and have some serviceable 2's and 3's that could be passed on. This is pure speculation on my part, however.
