Stein: Blake/Duhon on the block, Fish could return

NO To Fish coming back, knowing Fish he probably wants/deserves more minutes.

Forget an offensive PG, get a fast defensive guard that can come in and shut down fast PG around the league.

No no no. Fish can be a loose cannon (with poor aim) out on the court. At least Blake can be reigned/boxed into a role. I love him like the next Laker fan, but Fish has delusions of grandeur whenever he handles the rock.

We just need a solid role player to back up Nash, and Blake is exactly that guy. it was too much to ask him to start, but he's perfect as a backup. Bringing back Fish might sound nice for chemistry, leadership, and a counterweight to Kobe, but don't forget that we have NASH to fill those shoes. Adding Fish would just muddy the locker room waters, I think.

Duhon is garbage, but if Mitch can turn him into something worth more than a bag of chips, go for it :jam2:

Letting Duhon and/or Blake go sounds like a salary dump + open a roster slot move to me. But the roster spot isn't for another PG. Says here Duhon and Glock go, Blake stays to back up Nash. Morris and DJO stay as well. CDR and Sacre are in.

Howard/Hill/Sacre
Gasol/Jamison
MWP/Ebanks/CDR
Bryant/Meeks/DJO
Nash/Blake/Morris

That makes 14; my guess is that's what the Lakers are going with to open the season.

Fish? He's trying to play past his expiration date. Let some other team be the sucker that falls for his act. His next job with the Lakers will be in the front office or in Brown's assistant pool.

I would welcome Fish back as an executive or a coaching role. But i've seen enough of him on the court.

We're getting Barbosa.

Blake is either going to be dealt for picks or a trade exception for monetary purposes and to clear a roster spot.

This thread is pure gold..... the love for Fisher now..... vs last year.... Wow!...

oh.... and I fully understand it.... Blake has been Fisher like for us.... and Morris would have be deep on 95% of the teams D-league bench if we had even average NBA level depth at guard....

Barbosa would be a decent pick up if that is our target. Calderon is too expensive unless there is more to this than we are seeing right now.

Well, he is a one-year deal, so I can see why we'd want him despite his $10M price tag this year. Although, I still can't figure out how a deal could work w/o including Metta, and that's probably not happening.

It's not just Blake and Duhon sitting out. It's the half-time show guys mysteriously hyping up Morris during the pregame, half-time show, and postgame.

Morris actually made me appreciate Blake last night. He's not great, but it showed we could do a LOT worse.

We need an upgrade. If none of these PG's pan out, we have until the FEB trade deadline to see if anybody decent is available.

I really want to see more of DJO. He keeps getting in when there are stiffs or out of position reserves in the game. I want to see DJO as the BACK UP point guard for 15-20 minutes in a preaseason game. I think he shows the most promise of any of our young guards (Morris, Goudelock, DJO)
The End is nigh. Time for a total Cut and Shuffle. Kobe contract was a mistake...time to avoid making more. The future is here, whether we want it to be or not. An era is over, but for the death rattle, and it's time for the cycle to begin anew. Growth and change are scary and painful, but alas...nothing worth achieving comes easily.

^ If this trade stuff has legs, I'm guessing they're trying to keep him under wraps so they're not playing him. Hopefully they move one or more of Duhon/Blake/Morris before the season kicks off here.

That being said, Odom isn't a PG. He doesn't have any real PG skills at all. He's a (much) smaller version of James Harden without any passing ability whatsoever.

Also, as bad as Fisher is, I trust him so much more than Morris or Duhon at this point.

A few thoughts:

1) Morris is not even close to being ready to contribute, or let alone be a non-liability
2) blake and duhon are similar players in that neither create, both are looking their age, and neither have done anything in recent years, especially duhon
3) outside of locker room presence, where does fisher help us? it can be argued that what fish would bring would be covered by nash already (leadership, shooting, etc)
4) DJO can likely only contribute in very brief spot minutes for energy
5) no one is taking any of our garbage PGs. we only took on duhon in order to get howard. unless someone is looking to dump salary, moving either duhon or blake is highly unlikely, at best.

^ 1. Agreed.
2. Agreed.
3. Fisher provides the same thing that Duhon/Morris do combined along with a winning attitude, experience, and as a cheaper player. Who do you want more Fisher or Duhon/Morris?
4. Agreed.
5. Of course someone would take our garbage PGs. We unloaded Luke Walton, we can unload Blake and/or Duhon. Well you might say "we gave up a first with Luke!" and that's true, but we also asked for a decent player in return. If we're giving up crap for free or for someone the other team doesn't really want/need anyway, then why couldn't we use them in a trade? It seems they're just trying to free up room for more qualified players, or at least players that are more financially friendly. I'm talking CDR first and Fisher second. If we gave a team Blake or Duhon for a conditional draft pick, why wouldn't they do that? That's basically free depth that becomes valuable next season as expirings or a guy that's easily bought out.

if we want opposing point guards to have career nights and score career highs, let's get fish again.

Dfish, truth be told. In real games, your locker room attitude i'snt worth a single point, a deuce, three, or a 4 point play.

Again I pose the question: who would you rather have and who would you trust more, Derek Fisher or Chris Duhon as your 3rd string PG?

Goudelock plays worse defense than Derek Fisher and that's saying a lot. Not to mention he's an even worse passer than Fisher which is saying a little more.

That being said, I might be inclined to lean that way since he's cheaper, but if that's the way the Lakers want to go I'm going to pick Johnson-Odom over Goudelock.

I don't understand the part of the thread title that says, "Fish could return".

Actually no he can't. We cannot resign him until after the All-Star break at the earliest.
