Because people jumped the gun on his signing.

Barnes was a much better signing than Blake.

Another great post out of you.

I'd say his best game as a Laker was his game winner in the season opener.

Still think people jumped the gun and Barnes is a much better signing?

Steve is exactly what L.A. needed. A true point guard who can shoot, defend, and run the offense. Also he was brought in to limit the aging Fisher's minutes.

Signing Blake was every bit as important as signing Barnes.

Both were great signings and both will play a big role in our 3peat.

Yes. Blake cant guard Rondo and the Heat dont have a legitimate PG. Barnes however will help with Lebron/Wade.

Blake was a good signing, but nothing close to what this board hyped it up to be.

Who the hell is Messi?

Bynum is a top 5 center when healthy he's not overrated, Romo is a top 10 QB he's not overrated.

Dude... niner. What's the point in continuing to act like Blake wasn't as good a signing and that we aren't allowed to appreciate him unless you give permission/he lives up to your standards of what is deserving of appreciation? We needed a higher IQ pass first PG and we got it. People are happy about it. He's looking decent. You are making little to no sense. You could argue about which summer acquisition is more important all day, but it's really irrelevant. We needed what Blake gives us, we're liking what Barnes gives us.

We don't need him to guard Rondo, Kobe will do that.

Until it's playoff time and we need a clutch shot, I'd really love to see Blake closing out games

Blake has been an excellent signing. I never feel bad about seeing him on the court. When Farmar was out there, I was constantly afraid.

One play in last night's game was particularly representative of what Blake brings to this team.

4th quarter with about 7 or 8 mins left. Caracter had sealed Cousins off underneath the basket. Now unlike most unskilled passing PG's (ahem Fish for example) who would have put the pass right at Caracter's numbers, Blake, wisely, instead led Caracter about 1 ft to Caracter's left.

Why is this significant? Blake's pass was led enough away from Caracter's body that it prevented Cousins from reaching around to knock the ball away. Slam dunk by Caracter.

Exactly....Blake is a true point guard (and the only one on the team), and knows how to pass to make plays for others. He's almost never looking for his own shot as much as he his looking to setup others first, and is perhaps too unselfish.

Unlike our previous "true PG", he can play multiple tempos and is equally effective on the break and in half court. I would have said that Jordan was a better dribble penetrator and finisher than Blake, but Blake ability to penetrate and dish has actually been surprisingly effective. He's more crafty in his moves, has good economy of motion, and thus has to rely less on athleticism to achieve his objectives than Jordan did.

Some people here equate "good games" for him based on his shooting....which is streaky at best, but discount the game management aspect of his contribution....which is much more steady and considerably more valuable. Every minute he takes from Derek Fisher makes us a better team.

I don't think Blake is any more talented than Farmar is, but he is certaintly a better fit. Jordan is more of a combo guard than a true point guard and we already had a combo guard off the bench in Shannon, what we really needed was a true point guard and that is what Blake is.

The reason that this thread isn't bumped more is because Blake is consistent, and what he does flies under the radar. He's not flashy, he's just a solid true PG, he runs the offense, he takes open shots when they're available, he runs the team out there. It's probably a good thing he's not discussed more, means he's not out there screwing up all the time like Farmar was so we don't really notice him in a bad way, we just expect him to run things out there pretty smoothly. He does a lot of things well though, a lot. Makes smart passes, hits 3's, plays very solid defense on quick pg's and is good at switching and catching up to at least challenge shots, and even doesn't mind picking up players bigger than him, I still love the signing.

He's also nearly 48% from 3pt range. =) Good to have a consistent sniper on the team again.

Lantz talked about that play and praised Blake. Another trait the he has is that he will pass it back into the low block when the big re-posts instead of dribbling and wasting seconds off the shot clock. Blake is DEFINITELY a pass first guard. His initial reaction is to survey the floor. Blake has very good instincts with great court vision. Another positive with him is that he wil take the shot ONLY if he was wide open and usually within the flow of the offense.
Nor can the Lakers get blamed for always making the right decisions over decades. At some point its not just luck or "gamble", its superior management and superior ownership.

I'll be completely honest and say I thought that Blake was not a good signing when it first happened.. I thought Kyle Lowry was a better option or signing a big and a minimum like House would have been great... boy was I wrong.

Blake is a PERFECT fit. I can't think of a backup PG who would be a better option at this point. My only complaint with Blake is he is not playing enough. Fish deserves to start.. he's earned that but Blake has shown he deserves the majority of the mins.

One thing it will be interesting to see is what Shannon will get paid this offseason. He's been extremely patient with Mitch and right now he's outplaying Blake who got 4yr/$16M.

You should bump the appreciation threads of every player that doesn't play well, every game. Or will you only bump this one because you're still trying to defend the original argument you created about it and refuse to give up on? No one is allowed to appreciate Blake for any games, good or not, because he's not as good a signing as Barnes to you? Do you realize the stupidity in this?

Yes, and you haven't posted in it. I guess you only post in appreciation threads to show a lack of appreciation. That sounds kind of like trolling.
