If Nash ends up missing significant time, something like 40 games like Malone did, then YES, it will start to look a lot like Malone in the same sense that Malone was an IRON MAN before he came to the Lakers (missed something like 7 games his entire CAREER) and when he came to the Lakers, he had a "bruised knee" as initial prognosis and then it became oh its more serious and suddenly he was out 3 months. He never quite recovered from it...as he was slowed down by it in the Finals.

Hopefully Nash is back by next week. We need to build that chemistry.

^^oh I agree.... it's not like that yet.... but If I remember correctly Malone was originally out for a couple days.... then a week... then bam.....

Nash has a non-displaced fracture... not sure how severe it is but that doesn't sound like a week for some reason..... My hope is that he comes back AND it doesn't effect him.

We've already got Kobe hurt and Howard and Hill recovering while trying to learn to play together..... yet we can't seem to get together long enough to even start that process.....

Roos, you're feeling its another star crossed season where nothing seem to be going right?

I've been following the Lakers for the almost 35 years, I can say that there are years that I am confident they'll win it all (85,87,88,90, 00, 01, 04, 09,10) from the start. Sadly this year, I'm not so sure with Brown at the helm, man.

Karl Malone had a torn mcl. That is a 6-12 month injury. Nashs injury is not anywhere near that serious

What roos is trying to say is that INITIALLY, malone's injury wasn't too serious, at least the initial diagnosis wasn't TORN mcl. I believe the Lakers THEN came out with a new diagnosis maybe a week or two later and it was the torn mcl. That's what ROOS is fearing right now with NASH. They're not saying much about it....that's my worry as well. Nash has been a warrior for most of his career and has barely missed games, its just our LUCK that he would get injured as soon as he comes to OUR team. I think that's what he's worried about, as am I, and anybody that's a Laker fan right now should be worrying about that as well.

Torn MCL is not a 6-12 month injury. For a complete tear, no surgery is needed, and it's a 2 month recovery. Partial tears, based on grade need even less down time.

i see the malone parallel, and it scares me. just gotta hope for the best, and more importantly don't rush him back for any reason. i don't care if the lakers are 5-15, you invested 27 million in the guy over three years (plus whatever that will cost in luxury taxes). take the long view.

The next three games are against Utah, Golden State, and Sacramento; we can win all those three games. November 13th we play against the Spurs. That's the game I hope Steve is back & healthy. I'd like to see how we stack up against the Spurs with all of our starting lineup intact.

guys here always so negative . why can t you guys wait and see what happens instead of constantly whining and complaining . it s not that simular to the malone injury. man i don t get it always so pessimistic. it s a totally different injury. i stay positive and wait till nash comes back.
gosh some lakers fans here are always in panic mode after 4 played games and a little injury from nash . he will comeback and he will be fine.

We got Nash..... he got hurt.........

Clear now?....

Yeah it was actually clear the first time what you were saying, but the comparison isn't there.

Even if Nash WAS hurt through the season, we're not dependent upon him. We have a system offense that will keep our other working pieces playing well anyway. Our 2004 team outside of Shaq/Kobe/Malone/Payton was pretty bad. Not to mention Payton was pretty damn bad as well.

Not to mention Kobe and Shaq not getting along. We have none of those chemistry issues. If you want to make the comparison, it'd be more like Gasol going down for the season and Nash playing the way he did the first two games throughout the year.

Your comparison doesn't work in my opinion.

I didn't remember Malone's initial diagnosis being just a bruise. When I saw the injury, it looked pretty bad, and I knew he would be out a long time. Can't have someone fall on your knee and then be back in two weeks.

Nash should be back before December unless something else came along with this injury, which I highly doubt, the way it looked. My biggest fear, as with Roo, is that he might underperform after the injury.

I bet Meeks came at Nash with a bat, thinking maybe that would make brown play him.

Where are we now in terms of his recovery? Any news on how he's doing?

According to: http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nba/417/steve-nash

Steve Nash (leg) traveled with the Lakers for Wednesday's game against the Jazz and will have his recovery timetable re-evaluated Saturday.
Mike Brown said the Lakers brought Nash along so he could have access to the training staff, but noted his status could change any day. This is encouraging news for Nash owners. The point guard's return timeline seems to be shrinking by the day and it's possible Nash could be back sooner rather than later. Nov 7 - 3:19 PM

Alright, that's great news! He could be back very soon. Skip Utah and maybe Sacto and come back against GSW?
