That backcourt of Blake and Nash from 10 games ago was pretty impressive. It makes it too hard to stop ball movement. They can beat the trap.

eh the defense statement is debatable. Blake isn't superior on defense. The defense the past couple of games has came from effort and team defense. You really think Blake can stay in front of the likes of Tony Parker and Jermey Lin? Also, Harden (though he scored 30+ points) had a in-efficient shooting night thanks to the pressure and team defense lakers presented.

If he's actually healthy, I think Nash is gonna end up surprising a lot of us and finally looking like his old self.

1. how did tony parker and jeremy lin end up in the same sentence?
2. i do think that having blake instead of nash has been helpful on defense, but nash's offense is going to be important. hopefully, he'll get to stay in with a hustle/athletic bench group to help avoid those 5 minute scoring droughts that this team has made fairly routine this year.

I didn't compare Nash to Blake..... You did. Nash is not a good defender healthy, is that even debatable? He also is most effective when he is setting up others..... The problem here is that the "others" are far worse scores than him..... Pau has the same mind set. If Meek, Clark and MWP are hitting the 3's we will be competitive... If Nash comes out and establishes himself as the primary scorer we will have a better chance IMO.... He's our best option that can creat his own shot.

^ Sorry about that, I wasn't trying to make that my point.

My point was, that the team defense was what sparked this nice game streak. Nash won't make it any worse.

The last time Nash came back from the leg fracture and nerve injury it was pretty impressive how well he played considering how you can't run while recuperating from leg injuries. Hope he looks that good today. Of course more intense in the playoffs against good, well coached teams.

It's going to be huge having him back today. When we dump it in the post, the Spurs can really only double off of Ron.

Insert Jamison with Blake/Nash and the bigs are going to have a lot of room to operate. Hopefully we see a lot of 1-4-5 pick and roll action with either Nash or Blake spotting up on the weakside.

I totally get Roo's concern. The last couple of games, including our win over SAS, the defense was what got us over. And that's where Nash has his problems. He does have his issues with Parker who seems to get the best of him in that department. But I can't see Nash himself being back as a negative. He's a great leader, distributor and shooter and I dig his game. I think he'll play with a lot of motivation and heart. Hopefully his body will follow! Man, the injuries this year.

You know, Nash brings so much on offense . . . you want to go to war with that guy. If he's getting too burned on the other end, we can insert Blake. But really, it should be a boost for us if Nash can go. I mean, do we really want to see a lot of minutes for Morris and Duhon in the post season? Spot minutes, sure. Many minutes? Yikes. Hoping to see Nash today if he can go!! :jam2:

i know rust from injury, but...

where's the nash who was bloodied, one eye swollen completely shut, still closing out games

we have this hollywood froufrou version who seems devoid of passion, heart, and soul...

He's old. Can't shoot (for this game anyway), can't really run, can't seem to pass anything like he used to, defense is at an all time worst level, I don't know old man, retirement might be wise.

It's going to be a rough next two years if he's our starting PG. 10 million to be put on a minute limitation under 30 minutes is just the wrong way to go about spending money and taking up capspace.

retirement time.

it's not even the production alone. i always saw this dude as a guy who galvanizes others around him and leads. doesn't shy away from big moments. i saw nothing of that this year. maybe a glimmer...once.

I wasn't really expecting much, I assumed he'd be kinda rusty and not really effective.
I liked that he was agressive looking for his shot to start, but unfortunately it just wasn't falling, uncharacteristically so.

I don't think we should be talking retirement yet. His contract is kinda ridiculous, yet, but when healthy the guy is still a very good PG.
The problem is staying healthy, and his back does concern me, but we can't say his first injury was an age-related thing or something like that, it was just a freak injury. We can't know what we would've looked like if he hadn't been sidelined for that much time to start the season. It's likely that his chemistry with others and leadership (something lakersyunowin was talking about) would've been much better and effective, not to mention that his own individual production would've probably been better too.
The personnel doesn't really suit him, we lack shooters, we clog the lane, we play a slow pace..
Maybe we should trade him, but I don't think he should retire, and I'd bet in a team with personnel more suited to his skillset (like his previous one) he'd look a lot more like the Steve Nash we all are familiar with.
He said himself that aside from the injuries and their unfortunate consequences he's actually felt very well, and that adapting to the team was the bigger struggle.
"The first time I ever saw my uniform hanging in the locker I put it on right away, and it just felt like I was putting on golden armour. From that day forward, I just called it 'the golden armour', it just felt like there was something mystical and magical about it" - Kobe Bryant.

Yeah, I'd be pretty happy if Nash decides to retire this offseason. Beyond wishful thinking.
