We have to contend the old fashion way now. Develop our players. we did it in the mid 90s, we will do it in the 10s

Kind of hard when you keep trading away first round picks......

At least the Spurs won something. Penix calls it a rivalry because they beat us a couple of times in the playoffs lol.

Pretty depressing. Nash ain't a 2 way guy, but his bball IQ is off the charts and it definitely would've helped Kobe on the offensive end.

Nash is just a loyal guy and part of me thinks he just wants to give the Suns the best possible replacement for his departure. Suns don't want to deal him to LA so Nash obliged. Damn....on to the next I guess.

One can only dream I guess. Would've been something special to see, a Nash-Kobe backcourt.

What "heated rivalry" are the Sun's brass talking about?? In 2006 & 2007 they were the better team when we were not contenders and in 2010 we were the better team.

I never considered them a rival.

Times like this, being the top dog for so long isn't a good spot to be in.. We lost out on Mo Williams & Nash because of owners that don't want to see us raise another banner..

Read somewhere [SI?] that Miller agreed with Denver... Don't remember the terms but yes he's a Nugget again next season.

thats why we had a lockout. It evened the playing field and took out the lakers competitive advantage of throwing money at players. Now other teams dont have to spend wildly and risk profits to keep up with the Lakers

I said the same thing. I mean to me its a rivalry when both teams win something. The Spurs are a rival. When we beat them, we won the title and vice versa.

They beat us when we had Kobe and scrubs. When we got Gasol, we went into their house when they had their acquisition (Shaq) and we beat them down.

Imaginary rivalry IMO.

Meh. I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't like Nash for the Lakers especially if we're trying to get younger and more athletic. He only has a couple more years and then we're back in the same position looking for a PG. Resign Sessions, get rid of Blake and get a floor general or even go after someone like Delonte West.

It would be nice when Kobe retired to already have some pieces in place that can step in and not make us horrible where we have to completely rebuild. That would be my mindset going forward. I do like that the FO is exploring options, though.

Nash lets us compete for the next two seasons, in my opinion. Gives us time to figure out the Bynum/Gasol situation.

Story coming soon.

Does this mean its now down to the Raptors and Mavericks?

They're hesitant to give up Stumpert? I would do that deal, cuz NY would get Nash and still keep Shumpert!

I think if we resign Sessions it allows us the opportunity to either start him or put him on the bench. We need another capable guard besides Blake. Blake is horrible; he needs to go. If we have an above average PG, that's all we need; a floor general, who can shoot, play decent defense, direct the offense, etc. Sessions can be our change of pace guard off the bench. That would be his role. That's all we need from a PG standpoing.

Kobe is at the SG. We obviously lack a suitable backup scorer to fill in and give him rest when needed. We need somebody like a Jason Terry, Beasley, Ginobili, etc. Imagine if we had Sessions and a legitimate scorer off that bench. That's 20-24 points a game easily if they're giving you 12 a piece. That would be much better production then we got last year.

This is where we need to go, though. We need a top 10-12 SF. An Iguodala, Granger, type. A SF who can shoot the three, defend the wing players Durant, Gay, and have the ability to create offensively for themselves and others. We need that guy right alongside Kobe easing the burden off his load and diversifying our offensive with more balance.

Pau needs to go; he's done. Drew surrounded by shooters would be lethal. Hill needs to be resigned, Barnes can go, McRoberts can get one more chance, etc. My point is we need depth & balance. Until that happens, we're NEVER going back to the finals.
