Having a legitimate starting PG would do wonders for this team. Having a legitimate Hall of Fame PG will be something that no one really understands. Even if he only averages 5/5 (he won't), he'll be helping the team by moving the ball in the first unit more often, finding Dwight more on lobs and cuts, getting the ball out of Kobe's hand and finding him in spots to make him more efficient, his attitude will help make the game more fun again, he'll be able to space the floor better if by nothing else than reputation... etc etc etc.

He's going to help make this fun for Laker fans again. Guaranteed.

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter
Nash and Gasol went through the whole practice, but there was not a 5-on-5 scrimmage. Just drills/shell stuff.

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter
It was expected that Gasol would go through practice, where as we weren't sure about Nash. He'll likely speak to reporters in a bit.

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter
Steve Nash: "Hopefully I can play by Christmas." Said he's finally starting to get excited about progress. But certainly still sore.

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter
Nash being hopeful about playing on X-Mas does not guarantee that he will. Has to see how still-sore leg responds to increased work.

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter
Nash ran up and down the floor today with teammates for the first time. Leg is sore, but he was able to get through it. Making progress.

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter
The next step for Nash is a contact practice/scrimmage. His goal is to continue to practice/get treatment all week & hopes it responds well.

i guess i've never broken a load-bearing bone, but it worries me that it's still sore and he's playing on it. i know that when my broken arm was healed, it was healed. it was weak, but pain free. are legs different?

I think watching Nash play is going to be a lot like Bynum...I'm going to cringe every time someone breathes on him.

It's the nerve that's bothering him not the bone itself.

Great news! I can't wait to see the entire team, fully healed play for MDA. Then if they suck -- they suck. Until then, I will reserve my judgement. But the team has to be better with both Nash and Gasol back. We're talking about HoF players here. They are not what they used to be, but they are certainly much better then.... who? Morris? Hill? Sacre? :man10:

Well since it's his nerve there's not a whole lot to worry about except pain. I mean sure he can damage his nerve, but that'd only happen if he played on it with severe pain for a prolonged period of time. There's much less chance that he'd rebreak the bone than there is he'd have some sort of serious nerve damage.

I'd be more afraid of structural issues now than anything to do with his nerve. Once he can reduce that pain/discomfort he'll be alright.

I think people need to remember that Kobe is a shooting guard, not a PG. When things go south he will revert to who he is, a scorer. After 17 years he is not going to become Magic Johnson, yet people still clamor for him to do just that. Couple that with a strong will that most players don't have and those players disappear and/or just want to give the ball to Kobe and run and hide. What I really think will change is that Nash will stay the course when things aren't going well and Kobe can still be Kobe. He has an equally strong will and that is what will help this team more than anything. Kobe always acknowledged that Fish was his Yin to his Yang and Nash will balance that out.

Nash needs to be Nash. He needs the ball to make plays. If Kobe still keeps the ball like recent games, Nash's back won't be a bonus to this team. And I really worry about his defense.

Yessss
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--sources--barring-setback--steve-nash-eyes-saturday-return-to-lakers-024051606.html

Steve Nash is eyeing a return to the Los Angeles Lakers' lineup Saturday against the Golden State Warriors if practice goes well this week, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Nash, 38, had a light practice workload Monday. He has missed 23 games this season after suffering a fractured left fibula on Nov. 1 against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Lakers might have three days' worth of workouts in between Tuesday's game against the Charlotte Bobcats and Saturday against the Warriors.

The Lakers originally thought the injury was just a bone bruise, but an MRI showed worse. Nash appeared set to return about a month ago after his fibula healed, but he had a setback due to a nerve irritation.

He has yet to play for new Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni, who coached him with the Phoenix Suns. The Lakers are also without backup point guard Steve Blake due to an abdominal injury.

The sore part I think isn't the leg, its just because he's not in basketball/game shape. It will take some time, but he'll be back

True. And some people are not high on Dwight, although the kid has been recovering from a back surgery and has not played ball for 8 months before the season. I'm actually amazed he's producing 18/12 and all those blocks.

Nash/Duhon
Kobe/Meeks

Now there is a backcourt I can get used to. 48 solid minutes at the PG/SG spot. Yesssiirr. Now if we could just fix that pesky backup SF position, we can get the season started.

We need an athlete at the 3 I think, we're pretty good with shooting

Nash, Duhon, Kobe, Artest, Meeks, Blake when he gets back, and sort of Jamison

And Ebanks is too horrible to be considered our backup 3

So this means he will play in about a week?....... :man1:

Seriously this is good news finally. I think this will help the offense a little but I don't see it changing the live by the 3 die by the 3 pattern of the past 15 games or so. Howard may get a few more looks but if he creates more tempo that also means more defensive possessions and more free throws.... our two Achilles heels.....
