Huh....

I've found out something about myself.

All things being equal i'm more concerned with how and with whom we win titles with than the title alone. I guess thats part of the reason i don't have any overwhelming sense of emotion towards the Heat. I don't dislike all of them ( I think Chris Bosh is underrated) . I wouldnt want to win with Lebron or Dwade. I'd be ok with Durant. I wouldnt want to win with Monta Ellis as our main star (and Monta have it all :man1: ) at this stage of his maturation process . I'd be ok with Dwight due to the image of his big goofy smile being even bigger after a title. Chris Pauls BS flopping ...ehh....if he pulled that as a Laker man...just no. I dont dislike his perceived personality but that flopping ish would instantly turn me off. It's WAAAY more blatant than Fishers ever was.

I could go on but the point being is certain guys, even if they were Lakers, wouldn't feel like Lakers to me .

I kind of feel the same way, but differently. I just don't want us to buy all the superstar talent and be the Yankees.

That's why I like the legacy of Magic and Kobe. And Worthy. And Fisher. And not just people we drafted but guys like Horry as a role player. You get the idea.

Side note, we got Worthy #1 overall in 1982 despite being the Champions that June. We traded for Clevelands #1 pick when there was no lottery protection.

The only thing that determined who got #1 was a coin toss, and it was the Lakers vs the San Diego Clippers. We won the toss. And James Worthy is an awesome post-game analyst.

I love some of the responses in here. If LeBron decided to join the Lakers next summer everyone here would be jumping for joy. We'd rifle off titles with Dwight and LeBron.

Personally its all about the name on the front. It could be anybody...as long as the it makes the Lakers a title favorite, I'm game.

The thing I like about Lebron's game is that his innate ability is to create for his guys. Its why he's such a lousy closer and doesn't have that mentality where he needs to become a volume shooter to make his mark on the game.

You look at Nash at his accelerated age and you look at Stockton before him...Magic would have been right there with those two if he didn't have to prematurely step away from the game.....you can basically lose your athleticism, but the older you get, you will never lose that court vision, that ability to create for others. Coming into the league Lebron was a distributor and the media machine wanted him to score more and become MJ cause it was more sexy in selling himself as a brand.

Pairing Bron and Dwight would be ridiculous....that should be plan A, B, C & D. This isn't about disrespecting Kobe....you have to find the next best thing to follow up the best...and right now, that's Bron...followed by Durant. Kyrie would be nice too....but only if we can't get Bron first. Again, its about the name on the front!

^ That. Durant isn't leaving OKC. I think he'll be like Duncan in that regard.

Kyrie is a definite possibility. He and Dwight would be devastating as well.

This. For me it isn't about just LeBron, because he's LeBron, maybe for some Laker fans it is, but for me having Kyrie, LeBron or Durant in L.A. would be awesome paired with Dwight and people are gonna be maaad. And never say never about Durant possibly coming to L.A. anything is possible especially if the Thunder doesn't continue to grow in the future. We didn't think we'd land Dwight either but we did.

So if Miami wins their 3rd title in a row next year, does anyone really think Lebron will bolt when there's unfinished business? They promised not 1, not 2 but a whole bunch of titles. I don't see Lebron leaving when there's unfinished business in Miami.

In response to Vash's post
To start the 2014-2015 season? give me Durant. He'll be starting or in the middle of his prime (he'll be like 26). LeBron will be 30.

I don't want Lebron on the team any time soon really, but when he's 36 or so and looking to finish his career off winning rings in LA, by all means. Lakers have a long history of taking on yesterday's superstars and many of the all-time greats to ever play the game made a 'stop' in LA at some point or another. Nothing to be ashamed of in that and it kind of adds to the fun of being a Lakers fan(which, for me has always been about the legacy and history first and foremost).

But really, LAL basketball doesn't really have an identity anymore. When it comes to the future and how this team is structured and what pieces we build around, the team can go any direction; be it with a young point guard prodigy, a Kobe-esque combo guard, a multitalented 'prototype' like Lebron, the 'pure scorer' like Durant or a big(sort of, the league hates bigs, so probably not the best plan)

and also, I mean, if Dwight Howard stays there's no reason to not build a team around him and there's no reason that team can't be great(well okay, there are a few reasons...)

I would certainly understand if the FO wanted Lebron here as he's the best player in the NBA and the Lakers love having otherworldly talent. I just don't like the guy much myself. I would be a bit conflicted about it personally and would have something of a difficult time rooting for him.

In my ideal world we get a terrific up and coming point guard to match with Howard and we try to upgrade some of the other spots this offseason by moving Gasol and/or some of our other expiring contracts. I'd rather get a good solid young-ish small forward sooner rather than waiting for James.

I still think we can save some cash at the PF by resigning Clark as well as picking up Jamison for one more year. To me a front line of Clark/Jamison, D12 and Hill should be just fine. The PF spot is mostly about hustle, defense, rebounding.

Get a 3 who can shoot from outside and play defense. Doesn't have to be a mega star like Lebron. Spend some money on a young PG in 2014 if possible under the cap.

Again, Laker's name being used to drum up interest and prices.

Lakers should get a commission for all those players and writers that throw the Lakers into the mix of any possible FA signing.

^i dont think lebron really needs our help to drive up interest, he's the best player in the game. we're clearly planning for the 2014 offseason and he's going to be the best player available that summer, put 2 & 2 together and it only makes sense for us to be interested

Good analysis, Showtime.Revival.14 :man1:

Finwe: I love Durant...but I prefer an elite setup guy to pair with Dwight. I loved the idea of CP3 paired with Dwight, so hopefully management goes in that direction. If they want to bring back Showtime so bad, bring the proper personnel in to do it. Bron is the only guy I see in this league that can replicate Magic's stature and game.

I see your point, I just think Durant entering his prime is more attractive than LeBron slowly starting to leave his.
We haven't seen LeBron adjust yet to losing some athleticism, another thing to consider IMO.

Melo will be basically done in 3 to 5 seasons.... he's been done as a leader since he got into the league and I don't want anyone who waits until a ref is holding on to someone then punches him when he isn't looking and then runs like a little girl anywhere near this team.

He is so overrated it's not funny. He's a scorer and not much else and he can't even do that when it's needed. He gets his big point games in blowouts and losses and is very rarely if ever the "difference maker" in big games on the positive side.

His offensive game is one that will transition well into old age. He's great at getting to his spots & getting the space to put his shots up, alot like Kobe. I could see Melo putting up 20+ PPG into his mid 30's.

He's a scorer.... but that's about it. He's never been a complete player and his flameouts in tight situation are notorious. He's nothing like Kobe other that he can score.

You did read about the hole in his knee cartilage right?... Having been though the same think I can tell you that it's not conducive to doing anything highly athletic into your mid 30's. There is no real surgical solution for that either..... just ask Brandon Roy.
