The Cavaliers, Lakers and Bulls have been frequently mentioned as teams likely to compete with the Heat to sign James.

LeBron thread?

Also your link takes me nowhere.

But yes, we only have Nash and hopefully Howard signed for 2014. That at most puts us at $29M. LeBron would add another $20M. So we'd still have $11M before going over the cap. We'd obviously trade/buyout Nash at that point.

A new thread for this? In any case, the Lakers are always on the list it helps sell papers and get hits on articles. Call me when 2013 is over.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

I would have to believe that yes, LeBron would be the #1 player on the Lakers list in the 2014 offseason, especially if Kobe retires. That said, I don't even want to think about that right now, can't stand the guy, he's currently the enemy, and I'd have a real hard time switching from hate to love, let alone like, if he came here.

I wonder if LeBron uses all his leverage and juice to force the team that signs him to give his posse free run again around the organization like they had in Cleveland which Riles would not do?

If and that´s a big if.. The Lakers do get him, its going to be really hard to accept Lebron as our leader. I dont see myself cheering for him, I would feel like such a bandwagon fan going from cheering for Kobe to all of a sudden loving Lebron. I respect his game but I just cant cheer for him.

Why would he leave Miami? Low taxes, more years/money and a team that's pretty good right now. By then we will be in full fledged re-building mode and he'll be wanting a ready made situation to catch Kobe/Jordan in championships.

This.

By the way, I'm pretty sure the Lakers will show interest in Tracy McGrady this summer.

Lebron will stay with Miami.

Lebron will opt out in 2014 but this is because he wants to secure another five years of max money with the cHeat, he's staying with Miami cHeat.

Dwight, Lebron, Nash + Kobe back on a contract just small enough to let us get Lebron while Kobe catches Kareem + passes MJ in rings. Sounds good to me. Lebron & Dwight is one of the most interesting combos possible. Those 2 guys alone could have such a huge impact on defense. If we still have Earl & Hill, we'd be a nightmare to score on.

If it's really all about rings for Lebron, joining Dwight & Nash (& possibly Kobe) makes the most sense.

You guys are crazy. I'll take what ever combination of players that gives us the best chance to win a championship. Lebron included. His transformation over the last couple of years has really impressed me. He has very few flaws in his game, he has the effort, and killer instinct.

this. he's pretty clearly the best player in the world right now, i could care less how terribly he handled leaving for miami at this point. if we have a legitimate shot to get lebron there's no reason not to go for it.

that said i don't think he's leaving miami in 2014

All of the flaws that were there 3 years ago are gone..... He's scary good and now he's clutch on top of it....

I wasn't sure he had the mental makeup to be mentally tough enough for the pressure but he seems to have that now as well.

Call me crazy but I'd take Melo over Lebron in 2014. Melo's game has always looked like it will age better. Lebron has post moves now but they still rely on his athleticism. I think Melo has the skillset to be an elite scorer well into his 30's.

Sure , if you want 1st round exits over championships ... Melo offensive game is a pleasure to watch at times ... and that's where it stops ... Lebron will be 30 in 2014.. will still have 2-3 great seasons left

I'm not saying I would stop being a Lakers fan if he came here or something, of course I'd root for the team the the same, I'm just not thrilled about players I hate coming here. I want to win, but not at any cost, I also like to like the players I root for. Like Paul Pierce, I wouldn't want that dude anywhere near this team, ever, in his prime, whenever, never, can't stand that guy. Would never want Wade, Ray Allen, and a few other guys here ever either.

You are crazy. Melo has iffy knees, attitude problems, and questionable desire. Lebron is going to last way longer than Melo. James is built like a tank, and you can only find a few players in the history of the NBA more durable than him. Not to mention Lebron is better in just about facet of the game at this point.

Melo is a tier 2 star. The Lakers are a tier 1 franchise.

Yeah I feel you. I still find myself rooting against the Heat every time they play. But I guess i'm a realist. If Lebron James is on the table you take it. I would hate to end up with consolation prize like Kevin Love because of loyalty.
