But that's not because they hate Kobe. LOL.

It's because 40+ pt games are not a recipe for long term success.

And yet when they happen, the Lakers win 70% of the time.

You have to feed the hot hand....and while Kobe's hand might not have been hot enough for your lofty standards, can you point out another player on the team who might have done better last night or the night before?

Appreciate the task man but your recopilation is biased from the beginning.

Even when the insane amount of shoots that Kobe takes it's not easy to score 40 points without a good FG% and/or FT%. Your data shows that in this games Kobe is being efficient and given that he takes a great deal of team's shots the probability of victory is greater, obviously.

A better compilation would be to select ALL THE GAMES when we say Kobe is shooting too much (+29 shots, EG) and see how it does fare in this games for the Lakers.

But, but... he's so selfish! :man6:

Seriously though, I think Kobe is trying to prove something this year. I'm not sure exactly what -- but he clearly has something on his agenda.

Well to be fair, if we'd lost, there is no doubt whatsoever that it would have been blamed on Kobe's 31 shot attempts. Since it's a win, you only have a few of the most hardcore haters like odom1year still sticking around to cry about shot attempts, but the floodgates will open for the deluge once we lose again.

Right now the best the haters can do is look at the box score and nitpick. Say something super enlightening like "it was an okay performance, but I wouldn't say it was impressive".

BSPN maroons were like..."you can see doing this is taking a lot out of him, and there's no way he can keep this up".

This is a fantastic job. Thank you for compiling this information.

I hadn't really considered the Lakers' win percentage on Kobe's 40 point games, but it's fairly significant. All the analysts on ESPN have failed to address that despite Kobe shooting a lot to score these 40 points, the Lakers are winning and they've won at an extremely high rate when he's scored this many points.

Kobe's 40 point games usually result in a win.... this isn't news to me.

The only thing I would add is that this is only 110 games over 16 years..... or about 7 a year if you do straight average. Yes we are winning 70% of them but Kobe isn't averaging 40 points this or any other year. Even if he did I don't think you could translate the 70% winning percentage over an entire year.

We needed every point of his scoring last night. I think we can make him even more efficient by running the offensive sets that get him the ball at the elbow or free throw line after some screens. He hardly misses those attempts. Last night he scored on a number of difficult shots that if we were running a more fluid offense he wouldn't have to. The rest of the team was not involved in a lot of his attempts. I think you create more for both Kobe and the rest of the team with more motion and Kobe with the ball near the paint rather at the point line in the 1/2 court set.

Yes, Kobe over 40 is a good thing about 3/4 of the time, but he isn't going to be able to do that every night and we need to continue to develop a system that allows for someone else to take up the slack on the nights he can't.

Finally, why is anyone even watching ESPN, much less actually processing their tripe?

That's just not what this thread is about. Make another one if you'd like.

And what this thread is about? I think that in the middle of the recent 'Kobe shooting too much is good or bad for the team?' controversy, this thread intends to make a point or at least one could think that, given the reaction it provokes in many posts.

And choosing only the games where Kobe shoots a lot and scores efficiently doesn't probe a thing in the midst of this controversy. It's a biased collection. I'm only saying that if the opener tries to make a point he should also take into account the games where Kobe shoots a lot but not so efficiently, games where Kobe's shooting attempts rank in the high twenties or thirties but he doesn't score 40 points. This would add something useful to the controversy.

Kobe for 82!!!!!! WOO HOO

:man1: :man1: :man1:

This scoring streak is therapy for Kobe in my opinion. He's frustrated.. he has to be especially with his life off the court. He's taking it out on the court. Just let him do what he does best.. historically he rarely disappoints in the grand scheme of things.

If 29 is the magice number, LA is 63-62...but 6-3 over the last two seasons.

That stat about scoring 40 plus and the W/L in the playoffs is nice. Hopefully Kobe will keep a few of these monster games in his back pocket for a couple playoff games this year.

That playoff stat (10-1) is surprising

And he was very close to make it 11-0...but it proved impossible to beat alone (and with handicap) the best seeded team in the league.

Ahahah!. So the people who say Kobe shooting too much is not good for the team also have a point!.

63-62 when Kobe shoots 29 or more is a poor record for what is expected (and achieved) from the Lakers. 50% is well below their average record the last few years.

In all fairness 29 is kind of a random milestone. There would be fast paced games or/and with a high number of offensive rebounds where 29 wouldn't be so excessive. The percentage of total team shots taken by Kobe is a better criterion. I say more than 25% is 'shooting too much'. I have no idea where to compile this information. :man5:
