The Off-Season You Hope For

The Off-Season You Hope For

Postby The Laker Link on Sat May 18, 2013 2:04 am

I can't find an ideal off-season post or any of that. If it is somewhere, let me know and I'll move my comments to there.

Anyways, I was thinking about what I think would be a great off-season at this point and what I would like to see happen.

And this is going to be for the whole team.

First, I hope they add Alvin Gentry and Nate McMillan to the Coaching staff. I would make McMillan the Assistant Coach (the one who takes over when MDA is ejected or whatever). Nate runs defense. Gentry and MDA run offense. You can add other assistants and what not, but I would think those two would be the biggest and most helpful additions.

Next, to go with the rumor of Pau for a lottery pick, I would be fine with the idea....if you could do it obviously, of trading Pau to the Pelicans for Eric Gordon and their lotto pick. In the trade machine, ESPN's, it said that you could add Robin Lopez to the deal and it would work, which I think would be nice because that is another Center and PF type player that can help us off the bench, plus with Pau coming in and Anthony Davis there, I think they would be OK without "Sideshow" Robin Lopez. Eric Gordon would be nice too to work with Dwight and play for Kobe if Kobe doesn't heal in time. With Eric Gordon you cold move Kobe to SF and then I was thinking with the Pelicans pick, you get Cody Zeller. He seemed like a good rebounder and what not, give him a chance to fight for the starting PF Spot

Then I would try and sign Odom, Tony Allen, and if possible Nate Robinson. I would also try and get Barnes back if I could. I think all of those guys would be great. Odom could start or Zeller could start and that would be nice to see, then you have Clark and Hill off the bench and what not.

I think the only downside to all this, as far as a dream in my case, is that getting Gordon would mess up the 2014 plan a bit, wouldn't it. But maybe it wouldn't mess it up too bad that we couldn't get others to go with Dwight and Gordon.

With Gordon and Dwight, we got some young talent that might make some cool highlight reels, and maybe Clark, Zeller, and Hill could add to those. Odom would be back and we all have seen that it wasn't great, though not entirely bad, to let him go. Barnes was helpful and maybe would be great with MDA since he was kind of a dud with Mike Brown.

I think that is a great off-season and one i would hope for and would like to see. Guess we have to wait and find out.

What do you guys think? What would you want?

Does it have to be realistic or can we just go to town?

My realistic hope is that we stick with what we have, maybe sign a player with the vet min, give it another go and start over in 2014.

Open to moving Pau, but only for a 2-way player that is the kind of piece you want to build around with D12 so if that's not going to happen, then keep calm and carry on.

Well, Pek isn't Russian. He's from Montenegro. :man12:

The off-season I hope for...

1. Fire D'Antoni.
2. Hire Shaw (with Rambis and Abdul-Jabbar on staff)
3. Hire Phil Jackson to Vice President of Basketball Operations.
4. Make the trade Doc Brown pointed out in another thread.
5. Give therealdeal part ownership of the franchise.
6. CL grows a lot and some of our members/moderators get to interview players after games.
7. therealdeal wins the lottery.
8. Man of Steel is widely accepted as the best Superman movie ever made.
9. My pets come back to life and live forever.
10. My wife suddenly looks like she did when she was 22.
11. therealdeal becomes supreme ruler of the world.
12. The Celtics go bankrupt.
13. Stern gets transported to another dimension along with Silver.
14. My air conditioner gets fixed.
15. My cable television finally gets a working, reliable DVR.
16. My niece doesn't have a baby.
17. I get a tattoo of something somewhere.
18. I eat a lot of Korean BBQ.

Gentry & Rambis added as assistants.

Going off the KG rumor.. 1st domino that falls is Pierce being bought out. We sign Pierce for the minimum. KG asks for a trade here to play with PP & contend. KG & Bradley for Pau & Duhon.. Blake for a 2nd rounder while his value is high, sign Foye for the minimum. Sign Corey Brewer for the mini mle or part of it.

Nash/Foye
24/Bradley/Meeks
Pierce/Brewer
KG/Clark/MWP
D12/Hill

Deep versatile team with more scoring than we had last year, along with much improved defense thanks to KG, Bradley, Brewer bolstering our defense. We add a couple oldies again but the balance of young players who are good enough to play is there with this team, & that should change the outcome.

Just a really weird coincidence that I happened upon some cool explosion videos on youtube last night. The Tzar bomb is the largest ever detonated. Check out this graphic. (Ok, Im done derailing poor Link's thread)

Trade Nash for Lowry / Gray
Trade Duhon for Brandon Rush
Trade Pau for Granger/Garnett/Lee (3 team trade I suggested minus Duhon and exchange Green for Lee)

Sign Nate Rob with the mini-MLE
Sign CDR / Glock / Odom / Fisher for the minimum

Amnesty MWP

Lowry / Nate Rob / Fisher
Kobe / Rush / Glock
Granger / Lee / CDR
Garnett / Clark / Odom
D12 / Hill / Gray

Profit.

How did explosions get mixed in with off-season discussions. I mean I got the first reference and then it escalated really quickly.

we have 2 paths. 1) try to win next year but take on salary and potentially ruin any real shot at the 2014 free agent class or 2) make no moves that will hurt the 2014 plan, but essentially call next season a wash

path 1:
1) move pau and nash for lowry and gay
2) amnesty mwp
3) sign wright or rush
4) pick up meeks' option
5) buy out duhon
6) bring back goudelock

path 2:
1) move nash for a draft pick this season and one in a couple of years
2) move pau for a draft pick this season and one in a couple of years
3) amnesty mwp
4) pick up meeks' option since he's cheap
5) re-sign clark for cheap

in both cases, i'm assuming d12 re-signs

Dwight resigns.
Kobe heals up without any complications.
Jeanie becomes the head decision maker of the franchise.

That's it.
