The Optimistic Thread! (TRD's FREEDOM THREAD!)

Kobe will get to rest that's if he misses time. it will/should allow for Nash and Dwight to grow and get some chemistry as we have seem with the Kobe/Dwight combo lately. also maybe even get Pau involved if he comes back before Kobe.

Kobe will get to rest and come back swinging is the only thing really optimistic about the situation. Nash/Dwight combo will prob not impress. MWP gunna take it upon himself and shoot and miss 15 wide open 3's

Well, if anything it will force the others to play like themselves without relying on 24. Nash and Howard are the ones that need to step up. World Peace will certainly take up the slack...whether he will be efficient is another matter.

As long as the ankle doesn't require surgery, I'm optimistic of the rest Kobe will receive. He's been logging some heavy minutes and could use the time off.

In an ideal season, we would do just fine without if Howard, Nash, and Pau were all out there and playing up to their abilities. The problem is that this season that hasn't happened at all and Kobe has been forced to take on too much. Dwight has been playing better but we need 09-11 Dwight to come through now to step up in Kobe's absence. It's a good thing our schedule gets pretty easy after Friday so we should be able to stay afloat while Kobe sits.

We only failed one time to win 3 out of 4 games since we were 17-25 ( losses at Heat and against Clips in a span of 4 games) ... we'll be fine as long as we keep winning at this rate

This.

Our road just got a whole lot tougher, but it's not as if the Jazz have an easy schedule as well. They're going to have a really tough time over the next stretch.

Indiana will be tough to watch. But the next 3 are against duds that we should win.

I don't think Kobe isn't going to be out for a long time ... back against Wizards at worst

My renewed optimism just took a massive hit. Not because of the loss which I saw coming and which I think we can afford. But the Kobe ankle looks bad.

I was initially very down and very upset.

But isn't this just how this season has gone? One bad thing after the next? I've kind of hit my breaking point on that. I'm not going to feel bad anymore. If this team is going to make the playoffs, they're going to make it the hardest f***ing way anyone could have expected. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF OUR BIG 4 HAS MISSED GAMES THIS SEASON. SIGNIFICANT GAMES! Nash missed a third of the season, Gasol missed half, Howard has missed games and really played when he shouldn't have, and Kobe is going to miss time.

If we make it to the playoffs it'll be one of the strongest teams I've seen in a while mentally. And if that's what we're going to do, we're going to do with or without ANYBODY.

Kobe should rest for a good while by his standards: a week or two. Get round the clock treatment and come back when we really need him: Monday March 25th in Golden State. That gives him about 11 days of rest and treatment before he even sees the court. Howard/Nash and soon Gasol SHOULD be able to beat Washington, Phoenix, and Sacramento. They can hold it down while the swelling goes away.

^It is a huge point that is overlooked by everyone because we are the Lakers.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

I'm optimistic because we still have Kobe Bryant on this team. And I'll always have some optimism in me while he's here.

That might have been our best win of the season. The defensive effort, the offensive execution, every single player stepped up with Kobe out. This is the first time I can say I've seen us look like a legit team on the road, just a great game to watch, I was fist pumping, jumping out of my seat, it was fun. 2 out of 3 wins on the little road trip, I'll take that.

Mike Trudell (@LakersReporter) tweeted

After a Sunday-Monday B2B, LAL have only 1 game in 6 days. Key for guys like Nash, Kobe to rest, Gasol to get stronger.

I said I would forgive the Atlanta loss if they won today, glad they pulled it out. Huge monkey off the team's back now since it started to feel like they were just not good enough to beat an elite team on the road. I know they aren't the Heat or Spurs but 26-7 at home is still really good and they're the #1 ranked defense.

So I couldn't watch the whole game, but what I hear is Indy tried doing what Atl did, and packed the paint daring us to shoot. Was the only difference between then and now the shots were actually going down?

^ No. We moved without the ball. Guys rarely stood still when players penetrated. The big difference was the effort on defensive end of the ball. We moved, we talked and we hustled and we alos hit timely shots.
