The defense was very good in the 2nd half, held the Knicks to 'only' 45 points in the 2nd.

16 in the 4th quarter when it mattered the most. And it helps that we aren't having the death quarter anymore where we don't score and let the other team put up 30+.

Down eight in the middle of the third and fought back. Squad is rounding itself into it mentally. The bench still needs to be integrated properly within the offense [Jamison, Meeks, Hill...] and I reckon that will come in due time.

Being down 9 even against New York I was still feeling confident in this team. That didn't happen earlier in the season where 9 points usually turned into 16-18 points.

This team is finally showing some poise and not folding when things get tough.

Also, we got another win when Kobe score 30+. Take that BSPN.

Yup. Even though we're winning there's still room for improvement and we should get better as the season progresses.

Our starters have played 3.5 games together. We probably haven't played one game with them all at 100%. We've had three different coaches, two different offensive systems. And we started 1-4. 14-14 is no joke, and teams are starting to take notice.

Maaaan!!! I can't even BEGIN to explain how PROUD I was of seeing our defense on the knicks. I mean, when you think back to our last matchup, melo went completely BONKERS! He had 30 at HALFTIME!!! I honestly thought he was capable of going for 60 or 70+ because every single shot seemed to come so easy. Luckily he saved us the embarrassment and got injured, and didn't play in the 2nd. But it wasn't even only him. We couldn't stop anything or anyone. The "pnr" seemed to trigger automatic points on the scoreboard. And 3 pointers rained from heaven like never before.

But in THIS game we limited them where we could. And it was AMAZING to watch. Especially in the 4th where we held them to 16 POINTS! That was more than what I expected. Also, I think we'll grow as the season progresses. Just wait until we start to get used to each others tendencies, and when howard is able to do the things athletically that he used to. Man, I can't wait to see what happens.

Also, on a side note, There have been only a few teams to get the best of new york, but the ones that seem to DOMINATE them are chicago, and houston. One thing they have in common are GREAT defensive centers in Noah and Asik. I say this because probably the main reason why we were able to bottle them up in the 4th was because they weren't getting ANYTHING in that pick n roll late in the game. And thats the basis of their offense. We made a decision to not leave their 3pt shooters, and make them score only from the pick n roll. Problem is, dwight was DOMINATING it defensively. Blocking lobs, contesting the floaters, doing everything. Same with what chicago and houston was doing.

I think teams will start to make them play this type game. But many teams cant. Miami just can't do it because they don't have a big who can consistently defend chandler around the rim and prevent the lobs, put backs, passes and dunks that he gets around the rim, the way dwight can defend it. Which opens up their DEADLY 3pt game. lol Thats why they got blown out by 20+ twice by NY, and will be a playoff nightmare for them. :man9: :man9: :man9:

hopefully speaking.

The Knicks game, I thought, was our best controlled game of the season. We played good defense, executed well on offense, Kobe didn't go hero ball, everything to me, felt like it occurred within the context of an offense.

I know we had other games where everything was clicking, but, any team can go through a game or two like that and for me, I'm looking for something sustainable, repeatable, and for the first time, I feel like I saw that against the Knicks.

To me, that game felt more like the step in the right direction we've been waiting for than any other this season.

This was a game where before we would have died by the 3. We missed a fair share of open 3's, yet still won. If we had hit a few more of those open ones, we would have won comfortably.

The defense was better. We played with more effort on that end. It was nice to see. Dwight was great on that end. Credit to Metta as well; he was fantastic on both ends. We primarily made them a jump shooting team and when they did drive, we funneled to Dwight who did an excellent job of altering/deflecting lobs and shot attempts.

Oh how I love this thread...

1. We're on a 5 game win streak. Of those wins the last 3 were "come-from-behind-team-building" wins. We came back from 18, from 14, and now from 8. Maybe next game we can actually just win without needing a comeback.

2. Kobe Bryant is on a ridiculous scoring tear and this last game was the easiest one so far. With Nash back in the mix, Kobe's duties are very simple: defend and score. He's got one down to a tee already and that should only improve. The next step: defense.

3. Dwight Howard looked a lot more like the defensive wizard we need to be Championship contenders. He did his best Bill Russell impression, and it wasn't a half bad one. If we can get him focused on that end like we want him to be, the offense will come. Defensively the game starts with him and ends with him.

4. Dwight has been improving on his free throws! Since the first meeting with the Knicks in New York, he's shot 56%. Far from stellar, but much better than he'd been doing previously.

5. Nash. Nash. Nash Nash Nashnashnash. The guy runs an offense so beautifully and so intelligently that if he's healthy this team is one of the most difficult teams to beat in the league. He's a surgeon offensively. Pick and roll- if the man comes up on him, lob or bounce pass inside. If the help comes, hit the man he's cheating off of. If no one steps out take the easy shot. If your man is overplaying you, back door and he'll find you every time. For all of our earlier faults and for all of the people saying "he won't make that much of a difference"... well he shut you up pretty damn quickly.

6. We're at .500! And we've finally got some good momentum going our way! We're looking more solid than we have and while we have a tough stretch coming up, I have every faith in our team that we'll come out on top with the guys we have now. There's just too much savvy in our starting lineup. With Nash, Howard, Gasol Kobe, and Metta on the floor late.. they're just so good and so fun to watch.

Our first game with Nash back the turnovers were high..... yesterday they were lower with Nash actually leading the team with 3. It will be interesting to see if that trend holds. Most of our turnovers this year have come from Kobe, Dwight or Pau.

Minutes are too high for an older team that has some nagging injury issues (Pau, Kobe, Nash, Dwight).

Another good thing from yesterday's game was that we won shooting poorly from the 3 point line...... first time in the MDA era.

We may have turned a corner and I'm cautiously optimistic at this point that we can begin to play above .500 ball and build on our 5 game winning streak.

Not a terrible loss. Denver has the best home record in the league. Plus, we usually have trouble with them, especially when they're eager to win and they're getting calls. Next 5 game win streak... :jam2:
