We're better this year. Even a hobbled Kobe make this a better team.

Can't say yet. Depends on how much Kobe plays and how good he is still. Depends on how good Randle is from the start. Depends how good Boozer is for us, does he at least, together with Randle, replace or give us more than what Pau did? Depends on what Ed Davis brings, on how Lin looks, on if Young can repeat last season. Depends on our coach, if he can get these guys to play defense, because the last one didn't. Depends how he uses guys, at their correct positions, spreading minutes properly, putting them in positions to succeed. And it depends how we finish out this roster, because it's not done yet. We need a SF, and if Marshall is cut we need a replacement. Also depends if our coach has the guts to not start Nash, or not even play him at all if he doesn't deserve it. The bar is pretty low from last season, this team could easily be better if they get lucky with health and gel as a team.

We're better this year as long as Kobe is 85% or so of what he was pre-achilles. I think we'll get 34 wins.

Last year was the worst year in Lakers history. There's no way this year's team can repeat that. Two back to back "worst" years in Lakers history would be a death blow.

This. As long as we hire a respectable coach (Byron), sign a body for SF, and Kobe stays relatively healthy we're going to be better. Two of those things will happen this season. The third takes a little luck.

As of now, I have more faith in how this new team is constructed that last years..

We have decent players at the 1 & 2 positions and good hustle guys at the 4 & 5..

I like that we kept Hill & Young… Hopefully X stays too..

As we all know, we're weak at the 3, but that could change before too long… Fingers crossed.

I'll wait for the SF signing, but I think we are better this year. Upgraded the 1, got two good rookies, Kobe will actually play some games... Booz will get rebounds, score some and suck on defense, just like Pau, but instead of getting paid $20M, he'll do it for 3. So yes, I think we are slightly better now.

Also, no more Blake playing SF and Swag playing PG. That was horrible.

All I know is if we're worse, we better land a top 5 pick so we can keep it instead of giving it up to the Suns!!

+ Hill with consistent minutes.
+ Randle
+ Decent backup in Ed Davis.

We'll be as bad as last year. I don't expect Kobe to every play anywhere close to the level he used to play at, nor would I be surprised if he gets hurt again. We have no game changing talent right now so no. If we win over 30 games it will be a miracle. We'll probably win in the neighborhood of 25 wins.

We still need to see how things turn out.. Do we sign a starting SF? Is Kobe still Kobe? Does Randle have a good rookie season? If all those things go our way we're much better, should make a push for the playoffs.

Better, but still a very bad team. Not based on talent, but leadership with Kobe playing and a new coach

Right now we are probably 10 games better. If Mitch makes another solid move and finds a good SF we could end up a .500 team which is a lot better.

We need to crap or get off the pot, honestly. Either go full tank by trading Kobe to keep our top 5 pick in next year's draft, or load up the rest of the roster with decent role players and go for the playoffs. We won't contend this season, no matter what...but I think we can make a run at 45+ wins, depending on whom else we trade for, and or sign.
The End is nigh. Time for a total Cut and Shuffle. Kobe contract was a mistake...time to avoid making more. The future is here, whether we want it to be or not. An era is over, but for the death rattle, and it's time for the cycle to begin anew. Growth and change are scary and painful, but alas...nothing worth achieving comes easily.

Trading Kobe, lol. Yeah, there's a ton of teams out there that have 24 mil out there to send back without gutting half their team that Kobe actually would be ok playing for. Kobe isn't going anywhere, he's this franchise's money maker for 2 years while we're mediocre.

Better?

You mean less awful? Yes because of Bean. But overall this is a scrub team, no question.

This is almost impossible to answer. Most people here had us getting to the playoffs last year. Injury reality and overall reality set in as the season progressed. I guessed about 36 wins last year if I remember correctly and IF we could stay health in the low 40's. I was assuming Kobe was in the mix.

This year I'd be hard pressed to say we're better based on data. Speculation is that Randle will contribute heavily.... Kobe will be healthy..... Lin meshes and returns to his upward trajectory.... Boozer has something left in the Tank.... Hill can play over 22 minutes a game.... and Young can duplicate his year. It all of those variables move in one direction (not likely) we could get to the 40's in wins. If the majority do then we will be about the same. If Kobe gets hurt again we're relying on Lin and Boozer for leadership. Not so sure that's going to end well.

Not a pessimistic but realistic "guess" would be 35 to 40 wins.

I will say one thing for last years team and MDA...... we won a number of games we had no business being in. I can't remember a season stranger from that respect. Opening night, Houston on the Road, OKC game late in the year. All massive wins and surprising. Even in the Phil days we always seemed to win the ones we were supposed to and lost the ones we were supposed to. Last year you had no clue going into a game if we could hit everything and beat a team like OKC or if we were going to miss everything and get blown out in historic fashion like the LAC game. Not sure we'll see that kind of season this year.

I think we are. Like others have said, a lot of it depends on Kobe's health to see how much better exactly, but I like the team thus far and think they will certainly improve over last year's horrid record. With the addition of Booz, Lin, Randle and Davis, and the return of Kobe, Swaggy P, X, Kelly, and Hill I think we are going to see more wins. Add a good coach to that mix and we should also hopefully see some good basketball.

The subtraction of D' Antoni and Meeks ought to give us a boost as well. Not trying to be mean about Jodie but his style was emblematic of the Antoni system that I couldn't stand. Shooting tons of threes and not playing D.

If we can pick up a decent starting SF to round things out I'll be even happier.

With health, better than last year's team with health no question. Kobe was out last year except for the 6 games, and coming back early. He was already improving when he got hurt again. 85-90% Kobe is my expectation and he will help all these guys. I think.

I feel like some have forgotten exactly how bad we were last season; similar to how women who just had babies will forget the pain they just went through. We just went through the worst year in team history. We lost a game to our in house rivals by 48 points. We lost multiple games by 25 or more.

We're not doing that again.
