Ebanks isn't soft on defense. He's not great either, but he has the size, length, and speed and does an adequate job utilizing these attributes.
ebanks sucks
He's a typical bench player. Nice attributes, but not always consistent.

he's been our most consistent PG to date. blake? no. morris? hell no. nash is injured.
hitting outside shots, not turning the ball over. playing decent defense.

being our best pg isn't saying much seeing nash hasn't played. have you seen his lazy passes that get other teams in transition?

Can you name a group of older players who played consistent defense while pushing the pace like D'Antoni is trying to do? I can't think of too many. 00's Pistons, 3-peat Lakers, 00 Spurs, 08 Celtics, etc all payed D by slowing it down, so they could play D on less possessions and save their legs.
It's young teams like the OKC Thunder who can play D while pushing the pace.
D'Antoni even remarked in a postgame interview that "too many guys are taking possessions off". Maybe that's a sign that you need less possessions.
