Meaning that without dumping Hill and/or Kaman, dumping Blake was almost pointless cause it didn't get us below the tax threshhold.

It got us two more young prospects for an aging injury prone point guard that we didn't want to come back.

I'd rather have Bazemore and Brooks than Blake right now.

This. We didn't even get under the friggin tax threshold. That was the absolute LEAST our FO could have done. If I had any remaining hope in this FO, it is completely gone. Super depressed about the future of this team. :freak2:

Yeah I agree. But I like the idea of bringing him back. Especially if it pushes D'Antoni out.

^^^Both Allen and Turner are restricted FAs. Those two would have been great assets to have this summer.

LA was on the phone with Philly for Kaman....If Pau could have netted us that package, we blew it!

Yeah exactly. The Blake deal made sense as part of another deal(s) to get below the tax. What does it serve now? We got 2 useless bench SG prospects that will get little to no playing time.

There was more incentive for us to keep Blake and s*** show the season than two pick up 2 players for the next 30 games that have made nothing of their NBA careers. The Blake trade helped the Warriors and did nothing for us.

Steve Blake ($4M) - (Bazemore ($750K) + Brooks ($1.2M)) = $2M.

If you're counting tax penalities sure. But when have we ever cared about how much the Buss's are paying?

The Blake trade just fortified our tank and ensures the worst record in Lakers history since moving to Los Angeles. If we're lucky, we won't make it over 25 wins. With how horrible this team is, it's a real possibility.

Yes, with the tax penalties it saves $5M.

Of course it wasn't about the money for the Buss', I'm sure they were working around the clock to make a deal work for Pau/Hill/Kaman, just never worked out.

Worst case scenario, we saved $5M. Not that it affects anything.

The issue here will be what we do with Pau and Jordan's bird rights in the summer, and how quickly we can do so.

If we get rid of D'Antoni, by all means, resign Jordan for ~$5M. As for Pau, S&T for Love in some sort of package involving Minnesota and/or Memphis.

Now we are on to hoping for a S and T with Pau. :man10:

Lets keep him after the failed CP3 trade -->The offers aren't good enough let's hang onto him --> He will be valuable as an expiring --> He will get us something in a sign and trade

He's either resigning or walking and with either option we blew it. Kevin Love isn't coming in a sign and trade, Minny has to want Pau 1st off, they don't have to take him on just because Love is leaving.

Either Minny would like the idea of him playing with Rubio, and/or we package Jordan Hill too

OR

Three way trade sending Pau to Memphis and whatever package comes out of that.

I'm a little baffled that we traded Blake to start to get under the tax penalty or whatever, but couldn't get a thing for Hill or Kaman if we don't plan to keep them going forward. I mean what is the plan here? I'm not seeing it, pretty disappointing, we couldn't even dump salaries to tank harder. If the plan is to suck next season too, I don't see how Kobe is ok with that, and why you even give him that contract in the first place. Maybe that retirement starts to look a little better to Kobe if we put another mediocre team together this offseason, I don't know.

I'm a little surprised Monroe didn't move. Maybe Detroit is re-thinking it or hoping to match any offer contingent on a sign and trade this summer.

Overall this is going to be the new NBA….. moves will be salary related for the most part and development will come from within more than from FA and trades….. which means we may be screwed for a number of years.

We couldn't get value.

You guys are looking at this from the wrong perspective. The Lakers have been saying all along that while they would LIKE to get under the repeater tax or reduce their luxury tax, they don't really NEED to do it. They're making money right now and that's fine for the time being.

They DO however want some value back. Most other teams NEED to get under the cap so we got in a staring contest where other teams expected us to be so desperate to avoid the taxes that we'd simply give our players away. We wouldn't do that. In fact Brooklyn was demanding a 2nd round pick WITH Hill just to take him. Why the f*** would we do that?

So now we go into the off-season with at least the option of sign and trading these guys or bringing them back again if we strike out in free agency.
