so not only are crappy writers voting but now crappy fans are too...yea the award gets crappier and crappier.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

I actually think Kobe has climbed the MVP list, he deserves to be top 5 at least if you ask me. The Heat keep winning as LeBron sits "injured", and Kobe is killing himself to get us into the playoffs. I know the criteria of the awards, I also know the real definition of the phrase "most valuable player".

The cumulative fan vote just counts as 1 vote at the end, among the other votes by writers/media.

Are you sure? Because this is a "for the 1st time" thing according to the NBA, might be different

the only thing that would make the MVP award more of a sham would be to let fans vote...

Had a feeling it would be like this. Otherwise it's just a popularity contest.

They should just have a split vote with some kind of break down like the following:

Coaches/GM vote: 25% votes
Players: 25% votes
Fans: 20% Votes
Media: 30% votes

Pretty sure the fans only count for 1 vote. Doesnt make a difference unless the MVP comes down to 1 vote

Fans should never be allowed to vote for anything involving awards or all star voting. Go vote for lame arse shows like American Idol and those loser shows. Let coaches vote, they are the only ones that have a shred of credibility.
