Wesley Johnson Discussion: Back for 1 year/$1 million (26)

@Mike_Bresnahan: Lakers agreed to terms with SG Wesley Johnson...1-yr deal for vet's min of $1 mill. Was 4th pick in 2010 draft, played last season for PHX.

:jam2: :jam2:

Props to the FO and whoever is doing this recruiting to get these guys in here, that's a steal.

Wow, nice, we got a real small forward. A young and athletic one at that.

Hes like a 6 foot 7 version of Shannon Brown...but has a much higher defensive potential though. Interesting pickup. Not sure if he fits D'Antoni's system. We'll see

Another 1 yr. veteran minimum steal. Mitch is finding some value with these guys. Basically all of them are auditioning to be part of the bench once the Lakers can get some free agents and hopefully a nice draft pick next year.

If we could get another SF and have....

Farmar / Young / Johnson / LO / Kaman

Off the bench that would be pretty insane.

Yeah I think I remember reading some article describing a year or two back how Kobe took him under his wing and showed him his season prep routine.

Kinda funny Johnson and Hill were lotto picks. They have talent in them. It needs to be nurtured much like that of Farmar and Young.

For what its worth, the lakers added youth, but they now have youth who can play which is a far contrast from Morris and Ebanks.

He reminds me of Ariza when we got him from Orlando. A young athlete who can defend, can't really shoot, has length, looks up to Kobe, and could revive his career and stay in the league here if given a chance

Wes Johnson on Kobe years ago

"I'm really just trying to learn everything he says. He's been playing out his whole career and he knows the little tricks and everything he tells me The even-keeled Johnson developed a comfort level with Bryant throughout his summer workout sessions and started to understand the thick barrier that separates the relationship when the two players are on opposite sides of the floor. In the final meeting between the Lakers and Wolves on March 18, the rookie constructed a career performance, scoring 29 points in 37 minutes while Bryant was limited to just 18 points.

Only red flag is hes played in Rick Adelman's player friendly system and wasn't very good. Lets see if he can find his spots and fit in like Ariza did

Yeah I mean he's not a great shooter, but he's good in other areas and there's potential, only a 4th year player. These players like Young and Wes Johnson are the type of players we have lacked for a few years now, have not been able to get to sign here, instead settling for old dudes. It's pretty surprising to me that we're able to get a few of these guys when we're only offering one year minimum deals and are thought to be not a good team right now. I'm impressed with what our front office has been able to do in the wake of losing Dwight, they've been patient and are making solid moves.

It's not that they suck, it's that they are thrust in a position to be more than they are because of where they are drafted. Hill was an afterthought, comes to the Lakers and now he's a key piece for us.

It's all about fit, niche and finding your role. Wesley Johnson will never be the expectations of the 4th overall pick, but at 1 million dollars I'm completely ok with seeing if he can turn into a solid role player for this team.

Wow this is quite a steal at the veteran's minimum. I really like this signing.

Its true that if you have some talent and have bounced around and look to be bouncing out the league, you can find something here. Hill, Ariza, Shannon, Clark all found themselves here.

Perimeter looks a little bit crowded. Blake and Meeks being traded together please!

FYI when he actually got playing time last year in Phoenix (March & April)

March - 13.2 ppg on 41.5% shooting
April - 12.9 ppg on 46.2% shooting

He can create his own shot too which is a big plus.

I think we may have landed a steal, Wesley is seriously athletic and has OK slashing ability if I'm not mistaken. It's not his fault he was stuck on a T-Wolves team with 8 small forwards. He and Kobe share the same agent, I remember Kobe raving about the kid's game when he got to the L.

:jam2: Mitch & Jim

:man10: see what I did there?
There are two teams that play in the Staples Center:
the LA Lakers and NBA Clippers.
