He is like Shannon on offense he is explosive at the rim but yet cant get by anyone and doesnt take many shots inside 3-5 feet. He has a good midrange jumper but sucks on 3s and long 2s

He is like Ariza on defense in that he has length and athleticism. I dont think hes an elite 1 on 1 defender either but he does go for steals and blocks...tries to make things happen

He said he has been working his areas of weakness, ball handling and jumpshooting.

He has drive, he wants to grow and learn. That instagram picture of him in his suit, holding the purple and gold jersey like it was a dream, is priceless. That's every basketball player who grew up a Laker fan's dream.

Yeah..... how did he sound.... like an "intelligent" baller that wants to blow up as a Laker, or just a player that wants to blow up as a Laker. There's a difference..... seeing the game....decisions on the court .... white guys' tickets into the league who have no game ..... :man10: :man10:

Not Johnson .... white guy .... the CL stereotype when someone says a white guy is smart (like Luke) everyone rolls their eyes. Just wondering if Johnson sounded smart, and wrote the question and went for the humor in "not smart" fashion. :man10:

Definitely the one thing I've noticed about Wesley is he definitely says definitely a lot. He definitely seems excited to be here and he definitely seems like an intelligent kid. Definitely definitely most definitely.

:man10: ^Johnson seems like a mature kid but yes he does make a listener go "what the...?" after awhile. I think more will be expected from this season than the other teams he's been with. Johnson has the skillset athletically and I would believe that in D'Antoni's system he has the opportunity to flourish. The bigger question with him AND Young is how much will they defer to Bryant and Gasol without stunting their approach?

I'm with you. I think the duo of Young and Johnson have some real potential and have a real shot at doing something big for themselves this summer.

As for Kobe, in a weird way I think they have an opportunity to really garner Kobe's respect. Kobe will be coming off of surgery, if he doesn't miss the first few games he'll certainly be less than himself. If Wes and Nick come out really hard in training camp, I think Kobe will be pretty comfortable letting them grow.

I think we'll see an effect also where Kobe will be appreciative of a couple young guys who really WANT to learn and grow compared to a young guy who came in and demanded the world.

Not to mention Nick and Farmar are close, so I can see Nick following Farmar's lead and ignoring Kobe sometimes. :man10:

Did catchup with Wes Johnson (@Weside11) at #adidiasnations. Thrilled to be a Laker. Loves the fit. Had bigger $ offers from other teams

Steve Kyler ‏@stevekylerNBA 2h
Wes Johnson (@Weside11) knows he needs a system like the Lakers run, and that playing with and learning from Kobe Bryant will help him

I think Wes has the most upside out of what I would consider our "major" signings (Kaman, Young, Johnson, Farmar) Young & Farmar should look great in D'antoni's system but both of those guys have already had breakout seasons (Farmar's extremely efficient season with the Nets, Young scoring 17 PPG in back to back seasons with the Wiz). Hopefully the change of scenery, a free flowing offense, working with legends & his connection with Rambis leads to Wes having a huge breakthrough on both sides of the ball this season.

^He's our wildcard. A high draft pick with a lot of potential. I think this environment will do wonders for him. He doesn't have the expectations or pressure of that he had with other organizations. He will be asked to defend, hit the open jumper, and that's it. At least, that's all I will look for from him; He can improve other aspects to his game and become a better player, but right now, he needs to concentrate on getting is FG% up both from 2 pt land and 3 point range, and become a more consistent defender, IMO. If he does those things consistently, I'll be happy.

I tend to agree with this and the above post ^ too.

He's the one with the most UNREALIZED potential from our signings. I'm not sure Young and Farmar have a ton more room to grow in their games. I suppose both could become better NBA level defenders and Young should rebound a little more than he does.

But Wesley still can develop his jump shot more, can learn when to rebound most effectively, and can really grow into one of the league's better perimeter defenders. He has all the tools for that, he just hasn't put it all together.

I'm not sure what we'll see out of him this season, but I've been hoping we could get him for years. I'm really excited about this and I'm really hoping he does well. Both for himself and for us.

i've always liked his game, and i agree that he's a guy (maybe the only guy on the squad) with breakout potential. especially in an MDA system. wes's primary weakness (not a super strong ballhandler) isn't a problem for him in this offense. he'll be asked to finish plays or move the ball along. i think he can do that. we'll see.
