I still like him if we can bring him back for the minimum.. & if he keeps playing like this that shouldn't be a problem.

The guy is just so blessed athletically yet he doesn't have much of a game to enhance his raw talents. It's really a shame. But I always want to have at least of couple of very athletic players on my team. They can do things that much less athletic players can never do on the court. And sometimes, you need that. I don't know if he doesn't work on his game or what but it's kind of a waste of talent.

Wesley Johnson will rejoin the starting lineup tomorrow vs. Pacers, D'Antoni said. Was a change yesterday geared mainly toward Carmelo.

I just can't even... Ryan Kelly was your lineup change geared towards Carmelo??

What???? Of all the asinine things D'Antoni's done this is the most obvious. How in the world could anyone think Kelly would be any sort of answer for Carmelo Anthony?

I think that was mainly offense talking right there....Pringles probably thought he could use Kelly to prevent Melo from cheating into the paint but just my opinion of course as Pringles thinks offense 1st and defense last to never.

I agree that Kelly being a stretch four is what D'Antoni has/had in mind, but to say it's a direct result of matching up with Carmelo Anthony doesn't make any sense. None.

Apparently, but man that's just too obvious. We'd probably still have lost having Johnson, Harris, or even Meeks guarding him. Kelly??

I'm not even mad at Kelly! He shouldn't have been in that position.

I don't see it this way at all..... The previous game Wes got lit up for 28-20 by Harris..... Couldn't get any worse since Harris is a role player and Melo a star. Kelly almost held Melo to what the role player got.... And almost 30 under what Melo got in his previous game. :man10:

What's funny is thinking there is a huge difference in Johnson and Kelly just based on casual observation. They both aren't very good.... It's just a matter of degree.

I have to wonder, when the hell MDA is gonna stick with 1 line-up... it's getting crazy how he keeps changing the line-ups almost every game... it's like he's trying to find a crap to stick to the wall..... what a douche.

Wes has been playing great lately. You always need a guy like him to spark you in ways only a guy with his athletcism can. At least that's always been my philosophy.

Wes is expendable. I think he's shown that he truly is an undeveloped, underwhelming basketball player for his athleticism and stature.

He's not really a stopper. He's streaky. He has flashes of decent play. At this point I'd rather give that roster spot to Manny Harris. For next year.

I think Manny Harris would wind up "breaking" with his thin frame and the game he plays. Some joint is going to pop a tendon or worse. Like him but just does not look durable enough against heavier, stronger athletes. Certainly on the Lakers it would happen when someone somewhere with an axe to grind, sticks a "Manny" pin in the "DOLL". :man5:

unlike most disappointing high draft picks.... Wes had 5 years of college ball to get his fundamentals and understanding of the game and still is clueless most nights. After 5 more in the NBA he still isn't as good as he was in his first 60 games..... He's expendable.....

I think everyone is being too hard on Wes.. He looked much better early in the season when the team was healthy, clicking, & winning games.. If we get back to our winning ways I wouldn't be surprised to see Wes come back & look good again.

^^Not being "hard"on him….. he is what he is….. which is an 8th man on a good team at best. He has no feel for the "team" game and that is especially evident on defense. He blocks a few shots but he also gets lit up over half the time as well.

Offensively he scores on the break and in situations where he can use his athleticism but has no game off the dribble and is an average at best jump shooter. He has little feel for setting up his teammates and for a SF is a poor ball handler.

My evaluation of him is in relation to what starting and first off the bench SF's in this league…… now if you are comparing him to what we have now it's a different story. It doesn't change his abilities, rather, it illuminates just how bad we are at that position currently.

Re-signing him should be only after we have gone through the entire FA process. He's not getting better than he is currently IMHO and spending money on him over time isn't really moving forward.

I think there's a bit to like in Wes Johnson - he's still young(ish), he's athletic, he's having his best season, and he is cheap. On the other hand, like Roo said - he had years in college, has had four years in the NBA, is an offensive liability, defends only in spurts, and definitely isn't a starter. If a playoff team wants him for second string, we should move him - he's not coming back.

If there's any truth at all to the Blake/Hill for Harrison Barnes/TPE deals, Wes would make a nice throw in to come off the bench in Barnes' place & probably make losing Barnes a bit easier to swallow for GS.

Wes has played pretty well other the last 12 games. He shot under 50% only in 4 of those. And less than 50% from 3 only in 3 of them. Even if he's not great, I would be happy with him staying with us next year.

I'm getting there as well.

I was easily the most excited person to see him come here. I thought he had great potential (and he still does), but I'm not sure he's mentally capable of keeping it up. I'd like him back for the minimum if no one else makes him a better offer.
