What do we honestly have to look forward to?

What do we honestly have to look forward to?

Postby TheOp on Wed Jan 23, 2013 10:28 pm

I just cant think of anything. I mean its bad enough were complete suckage right now, all these losses dont benefit us in any way shape or form. WE HAVE NO DRAFT PICKS. We really cant rebuild even if we wanted to. I know you can say well we can improve the team via free agency, but the thing is nobody will be looking to come here and join the ship wreck, and above all that we have no cap space so we cant offer anything significant. We can improve the team via trades, but we have a s*** load of bad contracts and old BAD defensive players.

So can anyone answer my original question in the thread title? What are we supposed to do about this...

The same thing 25 other teams fans look forward to.....
"If the past sits in judgment on the present, the future will be lost." Winston Churchill

“The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present - and is gravely to be regarded." Dwight Eisenhower

it's a matter of expectations. if we had the bobcats roster, no one would care.

but $100M roster later, and 8 games below .500, of course people are going to be annoyed and frustrated

ive been a lakers fan since kobe was drafted so i grew up with him and the only real losing season i experienced was the lottery season before we drafted bynum. that one wasnt really bad since that team sucked and it was expected. this team was built to destroy the league and shouldnt be anywhere close to where they are in the standings. in my 17 years of watching the lakers, this is the worst team ive ever seen.

yep same here, grew up on the jones/ceballos/van excel lakers and while they consistently lost in the playoffs, I loved watching them. Maybe since I was kid I wasn't as emotional as I am now but this team just puts me in a sour mood all the time after the games, feel like I'm developing depression loss after loss :man6:

Seriously, great post. Just get over it and deal.

Some of us have been around since the 80's (or longer) and have seen lots of winning, and our fair share of losing. This is part of life. You can't win every single year.

Losing just makes you appreciate the winning that much more.

I should have been more direct with my post, it was meant for the OP......

He made it sound like this is the end of the Lakers as we know it which is false given our history and the fact that our bad contracts are gone this offseason and next.

We were supposed to murder people on PAPER, but that's why you play the game. This team has the names, but it doesn't have the game to go along with it.

We will be back, we will always be back.

It's a wasted season full of high expectations, but you have to take it in stride.

One thing we can look forward to, is that I hope we the fans and the players and the coaches and the front office will never, ever take things for granted again and always remember this colossal blunder of a season.

^ That.

The only difference is that this team was supposed to be one of the most talented the game has ever seen and instead we're a lottery team. Hey, sometimes that's how it goes.

What do we have to look forward to? Well if we miss the playoffs this year (which is becoming increasingly likely every day), we will have a super eventful summer. We lose Gasol almost certainly. He'll be a 19 million dollar expiring and it doesn't get a whole lot more valuable than that. Kobe will be in his last year. Nash may retire. We'll have the emergence of Hill and Clark.

Dwight might re-sign, he might not we'll see about that. If he does, great. If he doesn't, oh well. We'll have a farewell tour season for Kobe.

Then we get to do something rare: start completely from scratch.

It'll be a ride. The team isn't going to relevant every single year. We're frustrated now, but every game should lower your expectations. Stop waiting for the miraculous and expect the reasonable.

Oh no... I saw it.... just point out that even with picks about 25 other teams, year in and year out, are never in contention for a title..... while we have been in the hunt for about 12 of the last 15 years....

Half full my man..... half full.

.... did we "lottery protect" our pick this year?....

It would be a lot easier to handle if we had draft picks but we mortgaged our future for the present. The only thing i'm hoping for is locking up Dwight and go from there.

This "woe is me" stuff is kinda getting out of hand no? We've missed the playoffs once since I started watching the Lakers in '93, we've won 5 titles in that time, some teams have never won one, some teams make the playoffs a handful of times in that 20 years. I know this sucks, but it has to happen to every team, it wasn't for lack of trying with the roster, but yeah IMO the coaching hires were horrible. What we have to look forward to now is seeing where we go from here, what they do to get better, whether that's reloading yet again, or rebuilding in some way. I look forward to being great again at some point, because with the Lakers that's almost a guarantee, whereas some teams never know if they will be good, ever.

With Jim Buss leading things, i no longer have confidence that we will be great. He should not be making basketball related decisions. Sure, in the past we had West and Kupchak but now?

I like these two points the best. I'm surrounded by Browns/Indians/Cavs fans and have seen every year high expectations going into the season, only to be dashed in the first week. A majority/if not all of these fans have never, NOT ONCE, got to enjoy their team(s) on top regular season or post season.

Just with the Lakers, I'm up 5-0 on those people. I have a different type of perspective I guess.....

That's why it bothers me to see people hop of the bandwagon. We will be back, whether it is next year, 5 years from now, whenever, you gotta keep pushin' and supporting the team no matter what.
