What do we do now?

What do we do now?

Postby FirstLady on Mon May 05, 2003 9:53 pm

Devean George's injury in tonights game has put the Lakers in a bind, especially with Fox being out for the remainder of the playoffs.

How do we play the Spurs in the next game(s)?

Indeed, losing Devean puts an enoumous hole at the SF position. Kobe can run at the SF, but I don't think Shaw is interested in playing 40+ minutes at the SG.

So which able bodies do we have left?

Fish > Pargo
Shaw > Rush
Kobe > Medvedenko
Horry > Walker
Shaq > Madsen

Yikes, is anyone here (besides the Spurs fans) interested in seeing Pargo, Rush, Slava, Walker, and Madsen on the floor together as the second unit?
Call it from Heaven Chick.

what to do...

Postby crucifido on Mon May 05, 2003 10:10 pm

they try to win at least the next in San Antonio, but to be sure - this makes this the series and the next one incredibly tough.

i don't care what anyone else says, although the lakers played terrible tonight, they proved that even without a true SF, they can beat the spurs. and don't anyone blame kobe for the loss, because we only had 2 bench points or something and he's the one who got us back close in the first place.

Slava laughed at the suggestion his skills might be affected by the down time. "Are you kidding?" he said. "Basketball is like ball. It's all a circle."

Yes, I must say, this has to be one of the WORST playoff executions I've ever seen, we'll see what happens when Phil staightens them out :man12:

But, the rookies must step up...

Yo this game was horrible!! The officiating was plain our sucky on both parts!! I know it's not the refs who decide the game, but hell, we were makin a comeback after Shaq fouled out.. And what sux even more is that I didn't even get to see the 3rd quarter cuz TNT was out in mah area! Outta all the dayam cable channels it's gotta be TNT!! UUUUUUH

IM ACTUALLY INTERESTED TO SEE PARGO AND RUSH ON THE FLOOR AT THE SAME TIME. THEY ALWAYS SEEM TO PLAY WELL TOGETHER AND PUSH THE BALL UPCOURT. MADSEN IM NOT TOO WORRIED ABOUT, BUT SLAVA IM SCARED OF. HE ALWAYS MAKES TERRIBLE DECISIONS!! WE'LL JUST HAVE TO SEE WHEN GAME 2 COMES UNDER WAY.

In a bind

Voice of Reason here to save the day. If Jax puts in Rush, Slava, Samaki or Madsen without BOTH Kobe and Shaq in the game I'll lose my mind.

1 game is not a series. The George injury is gonna hurt, but LA can overcome it for the short time (he needs to get back for game 3 or 4 at the latest).

LA's problem in game 1 were (and what needs to change for game 2):
1. Shaq needs to shoot more
2. Kobe needs to shoot less (I'm not dogging him, just a fact)
3. Turnovers...... ARGH!
4. Someone wake up Phil Jackson
5. George injury

Okay, now I'm going to sound like a Queen fan for a sec (please forgive me), but the officials let too much go on. LA players almost had to run from Duncan for fear of being called for a foul. Kobe was fouled MANY times with no call. The 3 that they said he stepped on the line.... what line ? Gimme a break. Last foul called on Shaq - petty and not a call to put a player out of a game.

Last but not least: Barkley, EJ, and Kenny Smith were hilarious talking about Robinson getting hit in the family jewels. Sorry if you missed it. Great comedy.

Heck yea...the way Pargo and Rush ran the court at Memphis was tight. See our 2nd unit is capable of making comebacks. Even though the game was vs a lottery team, it still doesn't matter cuz at any time a team can play very tough vs another. Yea, Slava REALLY scares me in the post. But he has a nice jumper tho.. The Lakers need to really get it together, but no worries over here :sing: Phil always finds a way to get though to them... :spin:

Is it just me, or did the refs call madsen for a [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.] double foul (when he was clearly pulled down by Ginobili) but let little MVPINO Timmy get away with pushing Rob without a double technical. If Rob had shoved Tim back after Tim had done something, they would have called either a double technical or just a T on rob for shoving. That is as indicative of the poor refereeing as anything last night.

God, I sure wish the refs would call games like that for Kobe, he'd go for 80!

Yeah, I think it would rank second behind Wilt's 100 pointer, but there may have been other 80 or 90 point nights by other guys, I would have to look it up!

Kobe could do it if he really wanted to...but he wants the all around game and I am inclined to agree with that strategy.

HMMM...any relation to JOHN thompson?
