As Laker fans we deserve the best... I really want a new face. The next Thibs or Pops. A revolutionary mind. There's gotta be one out there. Maybe try what the Celtics did, with bringing in Brad Stevens? Some young guy with an analytic mind, for rebuilding this roster.

Maybe after yet another early exit in the tournament, Coach K is finally looking for a new challenge.

JvG is my first choice. But I don't think he wants to coach anymore. He's having too much fun in the booth.

There's no meat to this rumor, but I'd love if they gave Mike Krzyzewski a call.

Coach K already said he's looking for a change in coaching because he was too old or something like that and that the last time he thought about coming to the NBA was 2004 for the Lakers.

There's a couple of outside rumors about things like that. Cowherd did a little segment on it, but it was blindly proposed by the noon radio guys at ESPN 710. At first I wasn't a fan, but the more I thought about it the more I liked it.

He'd be a really nice answer to Phil going to New York. Mike actually would be the coach so he'd have a direct line to the players. Guys like Love, Carmelo, Kobe, etc. all have played for him in the Olympics so he'd be well respected. He'd bring a good vibe back to Los Angeles even if he wasn't a great long-term option.

Didn't coach K just say the other day that he will be at Duke for at least 5 more years?

He did. Not going to happen for us, but interesting idea that was floated.

I'll still be very happy if we get Karl, Hollins, Scott, Larry Brown or one of the Van Gundys (don't think that will happen).

I was very much into the idea of getting Jerry Sloan last year, but I think that ship has sailed. I felt like he could be a good fit for last season's team, but I'm not sure about going forward, or how much coaching he has left in him. But he's still a damn good coach, HOF, and if it happened I would be into it. He wouldn't stand for this current lack of defense that's for sure.

More than anything, just getting rid of the Moustache Pig would make me a happy camper.

Anyone but Mike D
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

Mike K is already pretty old, he's 67. So he'd be a transition coach at most. Participate in the rebuild and groom his successor, that's it, 3 years tops.

Larry Brown is 73! Gotta be kidding.
Jerry Sloan just turned 72. Let him stay retired.

No, absolutely not to Scott, Rambis or Shaw. Shaw hasn't really proved himself in Denver.

I used to not like either of the Van Gundy's, but they've both grown on me. Think I'd rather have Stan than Jeff at this point as I wasn't all that impressed with JVG's job in Houston. Turns out Stan is the older brother, wow, I always thought Jeff was the older one. Anyway both are in their early to mid 50's so age is not an issue.

George Karl will be 63 in May, that doesn't sound so bad, but one has to hope his cancer remains in remission.

Rick Adelman is 67. He has an out clause in his contract at the end of the season; it's rumored he'll take it to take care of his wife and may step away from the game for good.

Any chance the Lakers can steal Pop? I don't think so... hence this becomes Cap Boy's most important hire. After blowing his first 3 hires, he has to get this one right.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I'll predict we'll get Byron Scott :man10:

It's the easy choice. More proven than any available former Laker alum in the coaching biz.

What I want thought is Big Game James... he has the pedigree and desire... champion and MVP

Ooh, the delusion is strong with this one!

Have you examined how Scott has lost each of his teams over time? Look at his tenure in each head coaching gig he had: New Jersey (now Brooklyn), New Orleans and Cleveland. He lost the team toward the end in each city and he doesn't appear to have learned what he needed to learn from those jobs.

A firm no! to Scott... Loved him as a player way back when, but he has clearly shown he can't keep his teams together as a coach.

Worthy has no coaching experience. At all. It's been 20 years since he retired and he has never even taken an assistant coaching job. At this point, he makes a comfortable living, he doesn't have to travel, not sure why he gives that up.

personally i want fish as our next HC. he'd be a perfect example of a player's coach

if not fish, then either van gundy. hell no to scott, larry brown, or karl.

thibs or pop would be dream hires but neither one is going to happen. same thing with coach k, he's not leaving duke

No on Fisher. I would go with scott because of his relationship with kobe.

I'm sorry so I can't speculate or suggest the next coach?!? :man10: :man10: Like the other posters here, my two cents on the OPs question means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Riley started in the booth too. I suggest Big Game because from what I've seen, he seems smart, intense and might bring something fresh to the table.

Karl is probably the best coach out there right now and he and Mitch share the UNC relationship. I wouldn't be surprised if that's where we go.

He also likes to push tempo which is what (it seems like) we want to do. Difference is he reaches defense and hustle over 3 point shooting (unlike MDA).
