2) Shaq shouted "where's my money" during a preseason game to Jerry.

3) Shaq and Kobe weren't getting along anyway.

4) Shaq was getting old too, and didn't have much time left.

5) Shaq consistently coasted through the regular season

6) Shaq waited until the end of summer to take care of health issues (on Company time)

7) Shaq came into to training camp out of shape (often)

8) (as stated earlier)......... Shaq yelled at Dr Buss during a preseason game "Pay me my money"

9) Shaq wanted money but Shaq wanted Kobe gone more
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

if those 2 are true then thats disgusting. It's not like he got paid either cause I remember when everyone was praising Shaq for taking a "big paycut" and only making 20mil a year. What a guy!

Agree. The man helped us win a ring. What more do you want?

If he was starting, then I'd agree, but he's coming off the bench. We don't need huge numbers from him anymore, as long as other bench players contribute. And once again, he helped us win a ring and he showed up in the Finals, that's most important.

Ultimately because Kobe refused to play with him. The Lakers realized he was the face of the franchise to come and the younger bigger talent with the most future to give them so they chose to trade Shaq. Shaq didn't help with his attitude I don't think he made it very hard to do.

^^^^ What Revgen and Puffyusa said is completely correct. That's it in a nutshell. And when Shaq did his healing on "Company Time" he actually stated it exactly that way, using those words. This was when he had surgery on his toe and as a result missed the entire pre-season. Shaq was and still is a jack@#$. I love the guy, but he's a knucklehead and a raging egomaniac. I can't wait to see him paired up with the new egomaniac Lebronze. Now that's going to really be something.

I applaud anyone who can stand behind a complete lack of understanding no matter how idiotic it may look or sound. I know riding rollercoasters with your eyes close makes it more fun. Does watching the games with your eyes closed have the same effect?

Why would he explicitly say that? The media would destroy him.

BTW, I never heard of that "Where's my money" thing during a preseason game. Was Buss sitting courtside or something? That's just crazy. Anyone have an article?

Some people in this thread deserve a punch in the face. Really hard punch.

At the end of the day, Kobe made it CLEAR as day and night that he was not returning if Shaq was signed. That along with Shaq's ridiculously franchise killing contract proposal ended his days as a laker.
Quick and easy.....

1 .Because both he and Kobe acted like immature children and couldnt just co-exist and win titles any longer.

At that point in time, i think Kobe was fed up with Shaq. Shaq started the whole mess during TC claiming that the whole team was present even though Kobe was absent then later instructing Kobe how to play basketball. That along with Kobe's own aspirations to be the GOAT ended the Kobe-Shaq duo. The immaturity though on Shaq's behalf was much greater.

From all the topics he's started, he's just really young it seems.

this, probably. i'm 17 and have been a laker fan ever since i can remember. however, i didn't know the reasons of shaq leaving to the extent outlined in this topic. i knew both he and kobe couldn't co-exist and that there was a money problem, but i didn't know it so elaborately as is being explained here.

Ultimately, LA peoples are still talking an Ex-Lakers player who already left more than 5 years.
Definitely, LA peoples just can not forget the man who brings us the true domination and fun on/off the court..

Yeah we were truly dominant and unbeatable with the Diesel, too bad he had no work ethic at all. If he had a 10th of Kobe's dedication to the game, we would've passed Boston in '06. That duo underachieved big time! Duncan would have been the 00s Jerry West.

Google much? http://www.nbclosangeles.com/sports/bas ... Again.html

Finally, has Jerry Buss forgiven Shaq? This may be the biggest obstacle of all. Remember Shaq ran down the court in a preseason game in Hawaii yelling at Buss “pay me.” Remember he threw Buss under the bus in some of his parting shots when he went to Miami. While Buss may be all about winning, Shaq would not be a key cog but a role player if he came back to Los Angeles, and Buss doesn’t need him. So why forgive him?

Why is this even a topic NOW? 5 years old and we finally got a tilte.

I remember Dr. Buss said somethingf to the effect of keeping Kobe. Shaq took it way too personally and left.

(I think it was the the second straight offseason I was heartbroken over a superstar polayer leaving one of my teams when Kariya totally backstabbed the "Mighty" Ducks.)
