Yeah his ISO plays against us were terrible down the stretch.. he sized up the defender for like 10 seconds, did nothing, forced Lin or Parsons to take a contested shot a couple of times. Awful.

:man3: It's obvious.... I can't believe you don's see it.... it's right there in front of us...

Kobe's not on the floor therefore we'er better on both ends...... and according to some here so much better it's not even funny.....

Just imagine how much better we would be if he just gave it up and retired or we amnestied him.....

No one thinks we're better without Kobe. But we're better defensively and that's the only thing I have ever argued. Too many people get their panties in a bunch over any criticism towards Kobe like he can do no wrong on the court and it's like the notion that we're better at anything without him is considered blasphemy.

So, basically, it comes down to this statement: Meeks > Kobe as a team defender?
Maybe, but I dunno.. I think the defensive improvement has more to do with the fact that guys were really, really ampted up to win those last couple of games, in part because of Kobe going down and wanting to win for him, in part to show that they can win by themselves too, and obviously because it was the last 2 games of the season and we had to make the playoffs...
I don't think you see any real improvement on D, say, in January if you took Kobe out and put Meeks in..
Kobe roams and gambles which burned us a couple of times but he's a much better 1 on 1 defender than Meeks, especially against guys who like to post up or take mid-range shots..
Not to mention that prior to him going down he was actually playing some great D, particurarly highlighted in the game against the Blazers.. We've been actually playing good D for a while now, with certain exceptions for a couple of stretches, but not really related to Kobe's presence or absence IMO..

Blake starting instead of Nash is much more significant defensively.

Meeks can't make a 3pt shot to save his life. Lucky Lakers!

We need some kick out 3's to loosen up the middle so D12 and Pau can go to work!

Meeks should start planting trees. He is a waste of oxygen.

I hope he's gone next year. No way he's worth more than league minimum.

nash sucked and was rusty and should have come off the bench (but of course not, d'antoni's golden boy)
pau being a wuss the entire first half
meeks sucked
morris sucked
clark sucked
no glock

offense was non-existent for much of the game. we let a stealable game slip through our fingers. what a stinker.

guys have to step up on O and not be afraid. defense wasnt actually bad. held spurs under 100. made star starters shoot under 50%. rebounded well. it was just what I thought offensive execution that cost us the game. just couldn't get shots to fall and kept turning it over!

refs really helped spurs in the 3rd I thought but the spurs just beat us in the 4th on both ends. I think we're capable of stealing one of these games if we execute our offense. Jamison and Clark have to step up and contribute on that end. we will never win a game if they don't. Meeks too.

Since Kobe went down (and with him, aproximately 33% of our offensive production), and for the first time this season, it's about offense.
We're getting enough stops and forcing misses on D (for the most part), but it just isn't enough if we keep missing WIDE open shots AND turning the ball over.

Spurs will simply pack it in on our post ups and force our inconsistent shooters to beat them with jumpers..
Pau missed WAY too many wide open Js, his jump shooting was just not good enough, and the same can be said for so many of our guys.
Meeks and Jamison, aka our bench scorers, gave us nothing. Nash isn't close to 100%, we can't expect Blake to score over 20 again, Dwight tends to get stripped, will probably be fouled on the catch and he'll miss 50% of his FTs..

For the most part of the game we forced the Spurs to below 40% shooting. Problem was, we were shooting below 40% ourselves (and couldn't make 3s at all), not to mention we had twice as many turnovers as they did.
THAT needs to change, or we're done in 4-5.

Why exactly did we sign Glock again? Not that he's gonna save us, but at least he has one skill, shooting. Complaints, eh, Pau was inconsistent again, Dwight was held in check by an ancient Duncan because Duncan is smart and knows the fundamentals, Nash was horrible, Jamison couldn't hit, Meeks was Meeks.

It was a road game in the playoffs against an elite defensive team, it really has more to do with our role players not showing up at all which wasn't really surprising.

SAS was probably watching the Houston game and noticed that you can really hurt our offense by loading up on the paint to avoid succesful post ups and letting us try to beat them with 3s.
We didn't make shots, that wasn't Nash's fault (other than his own misses). 3/15 from 3...

Yup. This game had all of the tell-tale signs of a team that is doing a lot of things right, putting in solid work, having energy and effort but not being able to put points on the board just the same. But even with Kobe (assuming a solid Playoffs type of Kobe scoring 30+) it's still so frustrating to see Gasol missing so many easy shots and Nash as well. Just felt like offensively on the Lakers no one had any spark at all.

And honestly, the Spurs had plenty of stretches of pretty crappy play as well, but the Lakers couldn't make the most of those opportunities to bridge the gap. I think it's going to be 2-0 Spurs returning to LA.

Gasol played the type of game that got him branded Gasoft. He was great with his passing, solid with his rebounding, but offensively he just didn't seem to want to go AFTER it at all.

I feel like this has been a WMC about the Lakers for the past 5 seasons but what is it with our team and being terrible at making jump shots? I understand jump shots from the mid-range are considered a pretty bad shot to take most of the time, but when left wide open I feel like most teams have at least 2 or 3 players who aren't their stars who can and will reliably hit open Js when needed. With the Lakers, and not just this season, it's been like this through many rosters, they just never seem to have that in their depth chart. And obviously when you have a superior presence inside you don't need it to win but handing a team like that to a guy like D'antoni?
