WMC 13/14: CL went down yet Coach D remains! ugh

i'm not worried about blake; he himself said that he wouldn't be shooting so much if it weren't preseason. i'm guessing he'll rediscover his stroke. if not, at least farmar is there this year.

i'm concerned with how jordan hill is going to find his way in dantoni's system. he's really a backup 5 in this league (in any system, imo), and the lakers already have two starting centers. that's three more centers than dantoni really wants.

I'm not worried about Hill.

The thing is, his game sort of compliments Pau and Kaman's game because he does all the stuff that they should.

Rebound, hustle, box out, protect the paint.

As for Blake, this is year 3 with him and he still hasn't really met the expectations that were...

Hill isn't going to get much time and I know we all want him to, but honestly he doesn't deserve it. Hill has had now two years where he NEEDED to get a decent midrange shot. He's still shooting missiles. If he had developed just a 16 foot jump shot, he'd have a good chance at getting quality minutes at the PF spot.

Williams fits better AND works hard too. Williams has some athleticism and so far has shown that he's willing to work for rebounds as well as defend decently.

Hill just doesn't fit.

This new rule that you can't touch the ball after your team scores is idiotic, it's beyond stupid. It's a natural instinct to touch the ball, and sometimes a guy is trying to offense rebound (like Hill) and is practically under the hoop boxing out, and the ball goes through and just falls into their hands. What are they supposed to do, dive out of the way like the ball is a grenade? Put their arms out and run away and possibly end up slapping someone in the face? Stupid. And in the playoffs, you're going to cost teams delay of games and possibly technical free throw points for this nonsense? Get real NBA.

Like the flopping rule. That was barely enforced at all unless it was exceptionally blatant.

It should be

1. If the player purposely hits the ball away/out from an opposing player trying to retrieve the ball.

2. A player holds on to the ball for more than two seconds.

3. A player grabs the ball to throw to the official.

If it just falls into a players hands they have no control. If they drop it or hand it to the other player immediately, that should be fine. What if someone purposely stood under the basket so it hits them?

Nash looks old and slow, he was struggling just to get into the lane.
Blake looks like dog s***, I really hope the end of last season wasn't a fluke.

The doubling teaming in the 1st quarter and some of the 2nd was just awful. It was either Blake or Meeks just sprinting at Favors or Kanter. Open shots all day for their teammates.

Can't rebound worth a damn either.

Well to be fair it's not a new rule. It was something that refs have ignored over the years.

What, it's a total uh, gut reaction. :man11: I feel like iOS 7 has gone overboard with auto correct, they even change the word I last typed after I type another word as if the word before goes better with the word right after it, which is silly, I would have changed it before I moved on if that was the case.

As for the rule, whether it's new or not it still sucks. You can't NEVER enforce it and then start enforcing it every time, it's too much, like Stu or whoever it was said, there needs to be judgement calls. Like Hill and Williams crash the boards and if the ball comes out of the net when they're flying through the air and falls into their hands it should not be a tech. What else are they supposed to do, let it hit them in the face, or put their arms up and run away. That's not a natural INSTINCT. :man12:

Game Day Bump:

It has finally come “Game Day”! The start of the season has finally reached the door step and the Lakers are ready to waltz it on in. The first day of an 82 game race to the finish line with the top 8 finding a spot in the 2nd season and more glory. Last season the Lakers entered into the regular season without much of a sound other than a tire being deflated. We had injuries, we had a big diva and we had a merry-go-round of coaching and personnel issues. This season we have trimmed the fat and we have cut some of our old grey hairs for younger hungrier ones. The coaching staff had a full preseason and training camp with the guys. Our big Diva was shipped off to play with the bearded scarecrow in cow country. Our Champion is still in recovery and our most talented big man is hoping to snap back to his former glory. We got younger, faster and healthier (for players not over the 33 yr mark that is) and we are ready to go to battle. The media outlets have said we will be the 12th seed and many have written us off before the season even began. Let them have their chatter, their banter and their moment to try and kick down the great franchise. We will show them. We will teach them. We will make them all remember the day they played the Titans…..um wait that isn’t right. We’ll make them remember the day they doubted the LOS ANGELES LAKERS.

It is game day here and it is time to bring the team together and go out and battle. Today we have the Clippers. These newly appointed kings of LA have a new coach, some new players and have championship aspirations. They have gone out to Walmart or Staples and got a bunch of selfies made to cover the history of the Lakers. They want to wash us out of our own building. They want to take our glory away and put up pictures of Deandre Jordan and Blake Griffin. The want to remind us that we are no longer the Lakers and that LA is a Clippers town. Yes, that’s what they want. Well flopcity can be the first on our list. It is game day. It is time. The moment has finally come where we, the fans, can start to live and breath Purple and Gold. Lets get this started. Lets get the W. Let the race begin…………………… Game Time! :jam2:
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

I'm looking forward to watching the team this year.... more so than last year for sure. This game, i'm afraid, will be hard to watch however.

^^^ Yeah that's a pretty unfair matchup with Biff and Jordan's high flying athleticism but we'll see what he can do. Kaman too. Good that he has an axe to grind with the classless way they did him after 8 years of good service. Finding out on ESPN. :disagree:

It may not be the disaster some fans seem to "expect " ... Floppers have two new starters , one coming back from injury ( Barnes too) , a new coach and new system ...

Agreed.

As much as I'm not loving our chances this season as a whole, I am strangely optimistic for tonight's game. We always seem to do well in season openers, and this just reminds me of the season opener in 2006 when Kobe was out with a lingering recovery from knee surgery and a band of misfits beat the heavily favored championship-contending Phoenix Suns on our home court behind Lamar Odom's 34, 13 & 6. Does Pau have it in him to lead us to a similar upset victory without Kobe suiting up? We'll see...

He's talked about it multiple times, as recently as couple days ago in L.A. Times. Said he understood being expendable for Chris Paul, who wouldn't do what they had to to get him. But he found out about the trade on ESPN. It's out there. So we have at least a pissed off still Cave Man on our side even if Hulk is gone. :man12:

Could be 0-3 by Saturdaze... The L.A. Times Sports section discussed the Lakers' age and limitations. Things that we as a fanbase are already aware of. All said dismissively. Even the complementary comments sound backhanded. Bolch and Breshnahan come off smug and smarmy to me. It's cool but we'll have our day again and it will be sooner than we probably think.
Nor can the Lakers get blamed for always making the right decisions over decades. At some point its not just luck or "gamble", its superior management and superior ownership.

Not going to lie, our starting lineup really concerns me. They just are not very good. They struggled against Utah in pre-season. And Utah is a BAD team. The bench is playing well and are fun to watch. Hopefully they get more minutes than the starting squad. That's really the only chance I see us having until Kobe returns. Play the bench more than the starters.

Expectations are on the floor to be honest. In the same L.A. Times edition, I was surprised as hell that the Lakers are even picked to nab the eight seed.
