WMC 13/14: CL went down yet Coach D remains! ugh

Oh man you got me. I'm sure your assertion that MDA is running everything without any input from the defensive coordinator they brought in to coach the defense is completely accurate.

Since I don't have access to the conversations between the two of them, I'm sure you do since you are making these bold claims.

At this point I don't care if they lose leads as long as they win in the end..

So you think we would have come back to win a squeaker had it been the Clips instead of ATL last night?

Interesting.

Blowing leads seems like a bad movie that just keeps running over and over for this team - no matter who's coaching or playing.

What does that even mean? :man10:

We won the game against a team we should have beat. You pointed out the Golden State game like it's the only measuring stick of the team so far completely IGNORING the other three games we've played which were all vastly more positive than that game.

Blow out the Clippers, BARELY lose to the defending Western Conference Champions, and win a game we should have won against a rebuilding team.

You want to look only at the back-to-back game against one of the strongest teams in the league in their home opener and first game of the season?

Interesting. :man10:

it's like watching a Raiders game when they have the lead...you end up crossing your fingers and rooting for the clock and mess ups from the other team

What does it mean?

Let's recap:

Another CL member argued that we would have lost last night's game against ATL had we been facing a playoff team instead.

I concurred, and cited the GSW game as evidence.

You countered with the "logic" that the win vs. the Clips was somehow evidence that we wouldn't have lost last night's game had we been facing a playoff team and not ATL.

Do you see what's wrong with your argument?

Only Lakers fans will kill our own team when we win.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

What's all this stuff about defense? We played the same defense throughout the game.... which was mediocre at best... What nearly lost us last night's game was offense not defense. We were 3 for our last 17 on 3 pointers and 7 for our last 26 overall.

We can't score in the paint unless it's a rebound put back and we don't have anyone that can create their own shot on a consistent basis. That is what nearly lost us the game last night.

Defensively we were basically the same combination of fake hustle and over rotation that we've been all year. ATL came out missing a lot of easy looks and we hit everything in sight. That turned around in the second half and the game miraculously evened out..... :man4:

The only real defensive mishaps were by Johnson on back to back switches (he didn't need to make btw) in the early 4th quarter that ended in him getting blown by for layups because he didn't space properly for the guy he was guarding. He left the game after the second one and never returned. They were an important stretch in their comeback.

That wasn't the only defensive mishap.

How about the repeated failure to stay at home on the three point specialist who was torching us all night long?

We haven't done that all year. GS killed us on that as did SA. The Clips missed quite a few open ones as well. That is part of what I see as the "norm" for our defense. What Johnson did in those 2 possessions at a critical point in the game was especially bad.... and got him yanked by a coach that wouldn't know good defense if it elbowed him in the face.

We're such a terrible road team.
But that shouldn't surprise anyone -- our team is filled with (and basically consists of) role players and bench level guys.
I don't think any of our active players is above 3rd/4th option level on offense, and we are also terrible on the defensive end.
We rely on our home crowd energizing the few athletes that we have and on us making a s*** ton of 3s.. which good teams know how to guard.

This is just painful to watch.

Nash can't play defense.....Need to rotate to help him
Blake can't guard SG's........Need to rotate to hep him
Pau can't move laterally.......Need to help him rotate on pick and rolls

How the hell are you supposed to cover for that defensively?

Add in the fact that we play small all game long, we constantly run and sprint at the person in the post with the ball.

Defense is a mess before we step on the court because you could have prime MWP and Pippen, you can't cover for this crap that we have to see.

And that's not covering how awful offensively that trio has been.

Pau/Nash/Blake - 78 minutes, 24 points, 9-24 FG, 10 rebounds, 9 assists, 3 TO's, -72 +/-

No other 3 players combined for more than a -25 +/-

Just pathetic what we are getting from these guys.

Why is CL so damn laggy all the time? :bang: :man2:

Making too much sense Doc. These three should NOT be starting all together. There's nothing there. Stop playing small ball, too.

Guard play in general, Pau not having the fire anymore.

I know Kobe is not ready yet, but this Blake experiment is not working. And poor Nash just can't bring it anymore. You can see he'd like to do some stuff, but he just can't. It's over for him.

really, nobody played well tonight. maybe they were looking ahead to Houston? nah, just kidding, this is just going to be a super bad road team all year long.

i don't really have a wmc, as i'm not sure what we were supposed to expect. sub-average players are going to be sub-average. i don't think i saw a lack of effort out there.
