WMC 12/13: Mercy kill. (0-4)

It is officially the worst season ever that I have personally watched (started watching in '92/93) now with this Kobe injury. The Mike'a as our coaches, all the injuries, lack of chemistry, reported infighting, Kobe with his worst ever injury, possibly missing the playoffs, and above all the death of the great Dr Jerry Buss.

Then he came up gimpy later and it was breath holding time, but he kept playing, so again another mini roller coaster. THEN, he went down, and it was like "no, not again, not 3 times in one game", it was like being relieved over and over and in the end there was no relief, false hope if that makes sense.

what really irks me is that this also means d'antoni had TWO free passes where he could, nay SHOULD, have gotten kobe out of the game...even for a damn minute.

there's no doubt about it. worst season ever since i've been alive (well i was around during the magic HIV announcement, but still too young to really grasp the gravity of the situation)

Nash Dwight Pau Blake Hill Jamison Metta & now Kobe. terrible laker season due to injuries. man this is the worst I've ever seen. every huge player for us has been out for a long time and or suffered bad injuries.

really thought he should have sat but there's no way he would in this game. just wish they played hard and well enough against loser teams like the wiz throughout the season so that in this game and stretch Kobe wouldn't have had to play this many minutes and prob would have sat after he hurt his knee/leg the first time this game.

now it's up to pau and Dwight. no excuses whatsoever. guys like Jamison and Meeks are really gunna have to ba lights out no holding back. metta although not 100% I expect fully to step it up. earl too on both ends.

I think it'll be good to see Duhon out there. I expect Dantoni to play him instead of a 7 man rotation and run them into the ground before the playoffs even start. really hope Duhon gets to play maybe with Blake at the 2 bc Duhon can hit 3's and works very well as a PG with Jamison and the rest of the bench. Meeks needs to step up big on both ends. Dwight was aweso tonight from the FT bc all they were doing was fouling. Pau was monster too and I expect him to channel that feeling of losing Kobe into his emotional playing style.

lakers need to rise up and face the adversary head on. it's been like this all year and now is the time to show what we can do. without Kobe. Coach Kobe will be in full effect and are Allstars need to dominate.

when is Nash coming back wtf??! we need his facilitating and scoring and clutch ability now more than ever. he better ramp it up and come back bc without him AND Kobe were toast. even tho we already were. praying for Kobe but even more for the team. they have a million reasons to play hard but now do it for your leader. do it for the guy who never let anything stop him from playing hard and trying to win.

time to rise and will their way into the playoffs and do damage there. bc honesty anything less is a failure and doing all that work and seeing Kobe give all he's got and more for anything less its beyond devastating. guy sacrifices so much and it better have all been for something. Dwight now it's your team. pau now it's time to be who you really can be. Nash run the team. bench step up big every game

Worst season ever.

For me.... nothing comes close to watching Worthy and Magic completely choke away the first win over the Celtics in franchise history..... I will never forget game 2 of the 84 series nor will I ever forgive Worthy....

Yeah.... it's irrational but nonetheless it's how I feel.

Thanks to the Kobe injury, last night's win felt more like a loss.

I haven't been this down since the '08 finals. :man6:

You know it's bad when there isn't a little blurb to follow our record on the title of the WMC thread.

Posted this on the other NBA games discussion thread:
I think Kobe going down pretty much eliminates any chances we had.. he was the only guy who could create for himself, consistently demand double teams, and our go-to guy in the clutch. Nash isn't healthy and all the other guys, in different degrees, have been inconsistent.
I read on twitter that Kobe represented 33% of our offense.. I imagine that's even higher in the clutch

I think we are gonna make the playoffs, but I think OKC will probably take us in 4 or maybe 5.
However, it should present a great opportunity for management to look at our guys and how they react to the even brighter lights, and with no Kobe, and start thinking about who's staying and who's getting traded or bought out or whatever.
Should also provide some perspective on Dwight and if he's got the ability to be THE guy on the LAKERS or not

^Actually two other guys can create for themselve: MWP and Nash. I think people forget that Ron has been and can be a 20+ PPG player when needed. I really see him stepping up and doing just that. Im not saying we are going to win or win the championship but without Kobe out there to save these guys I can honestly see Ron stepping up before anyone else.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

Sure, I agree. However, there is a problem: Ron, for all his toughness, can't play heavy minutes because he had a knee surgery couple of weeks ago. It's a miracle he can even run, let alone play professional basketball. Nash, on the other hand, can't even run.

Seriously. If they CAN start ball games with this much energy, if they CAN play this hard on defense, why the hell don't they? If they did it more often than not this season we wouldn't be fighting for the 8th seed.

Especially this. If not for the consistent effort on D all game, this probably would have been another blowout considering how bad we struggled to score.

My WMC: so I guess Duhon and Morris does have some use off the bench. So why couldn't MDA play them to give the backcourt a bit of a rest the last couple of games? :man5:
