Same feeling I get. Kobe can still do more than score but it's like he chooses not to. He's cool with putting up 25 shots every night. Efficient or not, I don't think that kind of basketball is good for a team unless you're surrounded by scrubs.

Is it OK if he's surrounded by guys playing like scrubs?

How many touches should Howard get in a close game down the stretch..... His FT shooting precludes him from being a viable alternative..... And you couldn't possibly be advocating going through Pau at the end of games could you?

I don't like watching it either but there is no other alternative

yeah, i don't like what's happening, but i don't have a better idea. the only thing i find myself saying in crunch time is that i want nash to start every possession with the ball in his hands. when kobe's got it, nash becomes window dressing. nash should be able to produce better shots for the team. that's his role and why they brought him in. he's got to do his job, even in crunch time.

LOL forgot about that. We are toast. The chance of missing the playoffs altogether seems to be a safer bet than making it at this point.

Last season, everybody talked about how our previous center couldn't handle a double-team. Yet our current center can't even handle a single-team without being stripped. Our PF's legs are so beatup with tendonitis and planar fascitus, so he's relegated to shooting J's since he can't get into the post without midgets like Carl Landry and Al Harrington shoving him off the block. And yet everybody complains about Kobe shooting so much even though he's the most effective scorer we have out there.

Prime example of this was end of the 3rd. I cringed when Nash threw the ball to Kobe at the top of the key and got out of the way then watched as Kobe proceeded to turn the ball over and only one person got back while there were 3-4 Sixers on the other side of the court for an open layup. Nash needs to be orchestrating things 90% of the time when he's on the floor, I don't want to see Kobe iso ball unless we literally have nothing else on the possession. I trust Nash to make something good happen A LOT more than Kobe.

Remember when we had Fisher? He would have the ball at the top of the arc with us getting into our offensive set. Kobe would come to the wing, hands out calling for the ball. Fisher would look at him, ignore him, and continue to run the offense.

I wish STEVE friking NASH had the balls to do that. Whenever Kobe calls for it, he passes. You're Steve friking Nash. Kobe always wants the ball, it's your job to get it to him in spots where he'd be most effective. Not every time he asks.

Our 3 best players, guys making a combined $65 million, are essentially playing the worst basketball of their careers. When your best players are playing this poorly over an entire season, you're not going to win that many games. This with all the other issues (coaching issues, bad defense, poor shot selection, injuries, etc) is what we're dealing with.

If we had Orlando Dwight, Kobe from 2007 and Pau from 2009, this team would own the league, but they're all nowhere near that level right now and I doubt if we'll see that this season. If they can't play at the level they're capable of, then not only will this team not win the championship, we won't even make the playoffs.

Yeah, just seems like the perfect storm occurred for this team. Gasol continuing to play soft. Kobe continuing to ball dog. Howard not even close to the Orlando Dwight. And on top of that, we got a coach who wants to play uptempo when we should be featuring our bigs.

Yeah, the Kobe from 07, Pau from 09 and Orlando Dwight dominates this league. But reality is this is 2013.

This team is too OLD and too SLOW. We need some young guys or this would be a long [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.] season. And we need them NOW. There is just no more time to adjust, learn how to play or any other things. For this team every game until the end of regular will be like PO game.

Thank you. Why is this point so hard to get for some people. I can understand the argument, heck I made the same damn argument....when it applies, like the WAS game where guys were shooting 50% from the field and Kobe goes ballhog.

But last night....wow. Boggling my mind. It's like telling Nash to give the ball to Luke Walton and Kwame Brown instead of Kobe....cuz that's how Pau and D12 played like last night.

we're mostly on the same page. i don't trust nash more than kobe; i trust him more as an intiator of the offense, though. kobe and dantoni are both guilty in such instances, though. somebody needs to establish pecking order and scheme, and from what i've seen, there's no reason for any half court possession not involve steve nash as the primary ball handler. if kobe works off the ball, he'll either get a shot or make it easier for nash to get someone else a shot. the kobe iso was necessary when nash was out (or when he's out of the game now), but it's not necessary now. play to your strengths, folks.

I don't know why we are discussing the O. Offense isn't the problem, really. Nash and Kobe will run an elite offense no matter what. It's the defense that's the problem... no coaching change is coming, so Pau needs to go. It's really that simple. If a Pau trade isn't coming, all hopes for this season are gone. We're probably hopeless this year anyway... no team has started this badly and gone on to win the title.

I'm looking at the schedule before the Grammy trip. It only gets tougher from here on out. Of the next eight teams, Lakers have beaten only two of them (Denver, Houston,) and have yet to play another two (Milwaukee, Miami). Not to be overlooked is a few days after that @ Chicago and Memphis, then OKC again. This is the stretch Lakers really need to play well and get some wins before going on that trip. Oh and that Grammy trip, a game literally every other day with a back to back thrown in for good measure.

Have faith guys. I know last night was a let down but heres the opportunity for this team to right the ship. 35-16 rest of the way to get to 50 wins is still possible. We can do this :jam2:

Hopefully the players who deserve to close the games get to close it out now, Pau had his shot, time for more Jamison, Hill and MWP and maybe more Meeks instead of Morris.

Because there is almost never be a reason to abandon the team concept, in a team game.

But I'll play along. At what point in a game do you conclude that a player is playing like crap and thus no longer deserves to shoot the ball and no longer should be afforded an opportunity to heat up?

When they miss 2 consecutive shots? 3? If they are 1-4 FG or worse? What happens if they were ice cold and so they were frozen out but then they make a shot in transition... are they, off the no-shoot list? I mean... when?

At what point does one say, ok, this guy clearly isn't making shots today, so no more shots for him?

No seriously the worst I've ever felt about our team was before the start of the playoffs in 2010, we basically sleepwalked through the 2nd half of hte season and got blown out multiple times including at home, Kobe was shooting under 40% for over a 30 game stretch under 80% from the FT line we looked like a mess and we got it together and won. Outside of Pau i think the rest of the roster has a lot of fight left in them to compete. Right now Pau is the weaklink, hes not competing, hes not battling, you use him but you take him out of crticial stretches of games especially at the end. Look at a guy like Shane Battier dude is not big or strong or fast he just competes like crazy and hes giving adequate production for Miami, we have guys like that they're not perfect but they battle, they compete and you can never question their effort level as long as we have 3-4 guys like that on our team I wont give up on em. We can turn this around
