He might as well make a run at Karl Malone's #2 all time scoring slot...no way he makes it to #1.

It's already starting. :bang:

There is a 0% of that happening and that will never change. Lebron is not leaving CLE again.

The Lakers wont have to try to tank this year. In the words of Charles Barkely "This is just a bad team man, bad f'n team man."
All time Lakers team: Magic, Kobe, West, Worthy and Chamberlain.

Hey everyone, first post from an overseas Laker fan here. Quick noob question. Do we get our 2015 pick back from Phoenix if we have one the 5 worst records or do we need the lottery to guarantee it as a top 5 pick first?

That's a great question - and welcome to the site!

I think it's always worded in this way: if the pick, as determined by the lottery (not by record), falls outside #5, then it's Phoenix's. Otherwise we keep it.

We'd have to finish with a bottom 2 record to guarantee our pick. Otherwise we're relying on the lottery.

I'd like to hear from Mitch and Jim as to what the vision for this club is. To me there is none when we are rolling out bench players as our starting 5.

I'd be interested in them reaching out to Riley and trying to bring back a laker great. He commands a respect that Jim and Mitch don't currently have.

Thanks for the welcome and response. If that's the case I think we need to forget this notion of 'team tank' unless the Lakers are going to be seriously all in on losing enough games to secure one of the top 3 worst records.

Can you imagine how devasting it would be for the franchise to suck bad enough all year to get say the 4th worst record only to end up gifting Phoenix the 6th pick? And good luck convincing Kobe or Byron Scott to buy in to a tank of that nature.

Still holding out hope that the office has something up their sleeve after some cap space juggling. We need another decent piece or two before we start filling out the rest of the roster with minimum contract types.

That would be a great move if we could pull it off. Might be easier for Jim to stomach relinquishing some control to Riley than it would have been with Phil Jackson. The way the past few seasons have gone the front office must be starting to experience a little self doubt.

I don't think Pat Riley is a realistic target...he just won some serious free agent battles, and is going to have a solid playoff team with that roster in the East. Not contenders, but pretty much guaranteed a top 4 slot. We can't say the same right now.

Probably not a realistic target no but could be worth a shot with the disappointment of Lebron's decision still fresh. Unlikely that Jim and Mitch are thinking along these lines just now though anyway.

Didn't Jim promise he would step down if it was clear we were headed in the wrong direction? I hope he keeps his promise. I have no faith in this FO. Their whole plan seems to be based on trying to acquire superstar talent. This season is essentially a waste because we only have a couple of young players to develop. Outside of them, it's the same squad from last year. The sad part is, we are once again in no man's land. Not good enough to win but not terrible enough to challenge for the worst record.

Even if he did, who judges what the "wrong direction" is? Jeanie? Himself? :man10: How long is the time frame he's given himself, a decade? Even if he said that it's hot air to appease fans, he's not stepping down.

I'm sure Jim said during the past season that if he hadn't turned it around within 3 or 4 years he would step down. Think it was around the same time Jeanie gave her "cap space not warm and fuzzy" interview on Mason and Ireland.

Riley gets a pretty good % of the Mia heat and full power, something I don't see LA giving him either of.

this is Amare/Yao dumb plan all over again except this time I dont think there's a "Pau trade" scenario this time around (unless its love :man10: ) and if its Love its gona involve Randle which will suck.

McMennaman mentioned this on 710 ESPN. He said our FO sucks at rebuilding and gave two possibilities as to why: (1) we choose not too as going after superstars has proven successful or (2) we just don't know how to do it.

I think it's a mixture of both. We have always gone after superstars so we never put much emphasis on rebuilding properly. And that explains some of our moves. Strike out on Melo and immediately re-sign vets instead of going after young talent. So instead of using this season to feature a roster full of young players, it's pretty much a waste as we only have 1/2 young players.

It's not rocket science though. If stars don't want to come here because we suck, you build with young talent and go after a star when Kobe's money is off the books. I have to think Mitch is not stupid and knows this, if so many on this board know this and we don't get paid to do that job.
