1. Too early to tell much, the defense overall seems better because of how many more athletes we have, a lot of guys with long arms that are very active. Interior Kaman only played game 1, Pau only played game 2, Hill has been just ok, and Sacre is very good at taking a charge but is no shot blocker. So yeah, Kaman isn't the fastest and can't jump, and Pau was rusty and also can't jump, so I don't expect our interior defense to be great this season. On the perimeter though, Farmar, Johnson, Young, Williams, and Henry have all looked pretty good at times.
2.Farmar didn't play tonight due to being cautious of some "bumps and bruises", but he looked great in game 1. He dished out a bunch of nice passes and should have had a lot of assists (he still had 7) but guys were missing gimmes. He had one assist where he passed the ball to a teammate trailing him by throwing it backwards over his head, really cool no look pass, if you haven't seen it look it up. He also looked like he had his same speed and ability to get to the rim off the dribble, and his leaping ability as he tried to block one fastbreak layup and while he missed, he hit pretty high up on the backboard. He also make some nice defensive plays, like one steal where he caught a guy not looking, reached in from behind and got his arms on the ball and just ripped it away from the guy pretty easy (I forget who it was but it was a bigger player for sure). Lastly, he shot 4 for 10, but he made some nice jumpers and shot with confidence. Really overall he seemed more in control and confident and ran the team really well while he was out there. I expect a good season from him, I like him better than Blake at backup PG, he seems to have matured a lot.
