I'm not going to try to argue with all 3 posts so you'll have to take turns tearing apart my general response :man10:

Someone please show me this lineup that Thibs could have gotten to play good enough defense for us not to be a terrible team. Blake/X/Wes/Hill/Kaman is probably our best defensive lineup & it's still flat out horrible & doesn't have nearly enough offensive firepower to hang with anyone.. Pau would have had to get his minutes no matter what because we needed his scoring.. Nick Young did show flashes on defense this season but the guy is 28, it's not like Thibs could turn him into some defensive stopper overnight, & again, he would have had to play big minutes because we needed his scoring.

Thibs is also another coach like D'antoni who has a problem with running his favorite rotations into the ground, so you can safely assume we'd have the same injury problems. I'm not denying that Thibs would have made this team much better defensively, but I absolutely don't think we had the personnel to win with defense this season. I would swap D'antoni for Thibs in a heartbeat, but with this specific roster, I think D'antoni was a better coach than Thibs would have been this season. Our only chance at winning was scoring a ton of points & that just isn't Thibs.

Thibs is the "anti-MDA".... he's all defense. We need defense but I'm not sold on him.

The problem with defense is that it has to be a philosophy and it's a team buy-in thing. There is no such thing as individual defense IMO.... teams play it or they don't. It's becoming one of the many lost fundamentals unfortunately.

Sold on what? What's the expectation? Besides Popovich, I don't think there is an active coach out there that anybody can be too sure about.

Thibs is no Rick Adelman or Phil when it comes to offense, but his teams were the 11th best offensive team in 2011, and 5th best offensive team in 2012. Not too bad for a guy who is "anti-MDA" as you call it.

As far as "buying in" goes, he's managed to convince players to buy into his philosophy just about whereever he's gone before. I can't see why he can't do it here, especially with the capspace we have to find the right players for him.

Is he the coach who can help lead us back to winning championships? I'm not sure. But, I don't see how he could be worse than D'Antoni. He's an upgrade.
