As other posters have noted; free-throws and MWP. Other then that, we should have blown this team out; neverthless, we won. I'll take it...

Happy with the W. Not happy with the awful defense in the 2nd half.

FTs... Getting comfy with the lead and letting NO come back. Leaving shooters open. MWP.

This is the 3rd straight game holding the opposition to around 42% isn't it?

Of course it's a worry, everything is with this team, but at this point there's far more optimism to be had.

time to focus in on the suns who will do more running. hornets aren't really much of a running team.

hopefully we can control the tempo tomorrow night.

this is the stretch where we need to go 7-0 before the heat game. nice start.

The numbers don't really tell the story defensively though, I think the alarming thing isn't so much what LAL allowed but how they allowed it. Near the end the Pelicans went ahead and scored over 20 points in about 3 minutes. You could be holding a team to 15% shooting but if you suddenly let them score 20 points in about 3 minutes you're sabotaging your chances of winning dramatically.

Thing is, it happened a few times in the game overall, NOH went on these fast and furious runs where they scored so quickly, and that can seriously undercut even the best defensive efforts.

It's been a negative trait all season long, where LAL has just tended to allow any opposing team this blitz 10-0 runs that happen in a minute or so and by the time LA recovers they are down 12-15 or so and struggling from there on out.

Team certainly looks better though, they look like the team we all expected them to be coming into this season, it's just damn unfortunate it is happening this far into the season where the stakes are this high for making a playoffs spot.

this was the worst officiated game I've been to...4 charges our guys took that were called for blocking calls, one BS travel call on Clark another BS call where they said he stepped out of bounds. We would've won by 20 easily if those stupid calls in the 2nd half didnt happen. Seriously I feel good about this win, damn refs tho.

Clark clearly traveled on that fast brake man come on, he took 3 steps. AS for the charge Pau was a block and so was Blake, both were in the restricted area, I dont know bout the Nash one but he looked like he was still moving.

it happened so damn fast teams around the league get away with, seriously it was barely half a step. From my vantage point it looked like our guys had their feet set and they showed the replay on the big board too

We got away with a huge 3 second call at the end though, i was legitimately concerned we were going to lose if we didn't get the bucket from Clark

Gotta WMC about coughing up that lead. The game didn't ever feel as close as the score was. We should have been up 20 with starters resting most of the 4th.

to be fair, I counted at least 3-4 times when they easy could have called us for 3 or 10 seconds in the key. Were the refs great, no, but I didn't think they were a big enough issue to even bring up. But that's just me.

i'm often upset with refs, but i thought all those calls were right. the clark travel goes uncalled most of the time for most players, but it was a travel. the blocks were all blocks.

my wmc: you can't make vasquez a star. he scored on little floaters going to his right probably 8 times. that should have stopped at 3. i thought they had adjusted after the first quarter, but then in the 4th he was back it. he's too slow to let him have his first choice of shot. that's bad team defense and/or strategy from the bench.

5:56 80-98 LAL, Antawn Jamison makes two point shot (Earl Clark assists)

...(3:52)

2:04 101-102 LAL, Greivis Vasquez makes 8-foot two point shot .

How is this possible? :bang:

The refs have always had a loaf for the Lakers, no matter were there at, but do not confuse home games with road games because the road game officiating is much worse... and that is something the Lakers must over-come as a group on the road-trip... "Officiating".

What are you kidding me?

The refs gifted us travels and 3 second calls all over the place, mostly 3 second calls.

Did anyone notice the refs called an absurd number of 16 fouls in the 3rd quarter?

The last 6 minutes were downright horrible. At least we won but we can't have those kind of lapses.

lol.

Here goes. If anyone noticed, the game clock was running REALLY quickly yesterday. As in, there weren't many stoppages of play -- possessions were turning over fairly quickly last night.

We were at half time around 8:45pm and the third quarter started a little before 9 I believe.

We all know how important the television deals are to the NBA, as well as the advertising that comes on in the commercial breaks. Advertisers pay premium prices to play their ads during these heavily-viewed programs.

I was watching the opening moments of the 3rd quarter thinking to myself "damn, this game is going by quickly, might be over before 9:30 at this rate".

And then around the 7:00 minute mark (I think), it happened. The refs started calling a bunch of fouls, on both teams, that really slowed down the game.

Maybe they just decided to "tighten things up", but a lot of those calls on both sides made me :man3:

I think they were extending the game to fill its usual time slot so that the advertisement sequence could continue to be filled in "prime time". If the game ends, companies are paying premium prices to air ads that aren't being viewed in "prime time" because viewership will have dropped.

If the game ends early viewership drops earlier. Call me crazy, but the shenanigans that were pulled during that one nationally televised game (the phantom timeout/commercial break) make me think this isn't a coincidence.

I don't know the ins and outs of TV/marketing deals, or the difference between local and national TV advertisements, and how the NBA profits from all of this, but I do know that more people will stay tuned in longer if a game continues to go on.

The NBA is a business after all.
