Kobe's procedure, whatever it is, was planned, Coach Mike D'Antoni said. Instead of doing it in August, he's doing it now.

I read that this planned PRP (if that's what the quote is referring to) has maximum benefits if he did it now compared to August or whenever.

Whatever the reason it may be that the treatment provides maximum benefit now, I don't know why.

My guess is he usually did it in August to get ready to play in September....

He did it in October to get read to play in November and have the treatment keep his knee healthy for the duration of the season.

If he did it in August, he wouldn't get healing power of PRP to last through the time period he is going to be max stressing the knee (November/Dec - End of regular season).

It would be a waste to get the treatment, sit on it for 2-3 months and then play. It makes sense, to me at least, to get it now and get the max benefits of it for the time period he needs it.

Just my guess.

They were probably free as PR from Beats.

And they're not terrible. He's not an audiophile who's gonna care about neutral sound others really look for.

I was thinking the same thing lol. I guess it probably doesn't matter much to him, but doesn't Kobe play the piano? I would think any person really into music would want something better.

Nail on the head. The way I see it, the doctors told him he's got about 2 months to go before he's ready to rock and roll. They told him get everything ready and he decided to go get the knee procedure done. He'll start cooking here soon and then we'll see him gear up. I've got a feeling he'll try to shoot for that first game against Houston or thereabouts, but he'll fall short of that.

Progress :jam2:

@kobebryant: "I'm starting to move a little bit more. I'm not where I was, but I can do some things."

Kobe said it’ll essentially take him 3 weeks to get in real shape once he starts really ramping up activity.

@kobebryant: "No setbacks. No soreness."

Bryant has already begun ramping up a bit, and has had no set backs or soreness. Of course, he’s not interested in (sharing a) timeline.

Here's @kobebryant taking questions after LAL practice.

and he is 100% on Alter-G :jam2: :man1:

I feel like Kobe is hiding from the public the fact that he is closer to returning than we all anticipate. The only thing that holds me back from being sure is Kobe is right about being our of shape, & I don't just mean running & conditioning wise, I mean weight wise looks a little heavier than usual. He needs to get his body right & get his explosiveness right. My guess would be mid end of November beginning of December, but who knows...we shall see...

Kobe addresses media. He says all he needs to do now is "get my [butt] in shape". He says it'll take 3 weeks.

Three weeks puts him very near opening day.

I'm thinking he won't make it, but... wow that's exciting.

My guess is he is 5 weeks away. Three weeks for his boot camp to get in shape, two weeks to regain his explosiveness and clear the mental hurdles.

That will put him at 7 months in the recovery process.

Seven Months to beat most guys to that point by about 5 months. Insane.

You already know that he will work his *** of for next three weeks.
This just show's you that he is like no other athlete on Earth, come on, who is able to sit out for six months and do absolutely nothing, and then to get in shape in 3 weeks, whattt??! :man4:
That is absolutely insane, i am not some condition trainer or anything like that so i can't throw timetable out, but if the man say he need 3 weeks, then i believe him.
Mannnn i can already feel nervous about his return, i can't even imagine how will i react, the other week i was watching Derrick Rose first game, damn i was nervous every time he hit's the floor or make some quick move....
I can't wait to see Kob, but he really shouldn't hurry tho.

This is surprising news. It seems like Kobe was giving the appearance that he was not that close to returning. :man10: I'm very glad to hear he's nearing his return and hopefully there's no setbacks or anything and he can return within whatever timetable he has for himself.

He must have some insane training regimen if it only takes him 3 weeks to get in shape after sitting out for 6 months, but hey this is Kobe so it's not too surprising. I'm still uncertain whether he'll make it for opening day but he should be close.

I think he's been doing weights and strength training, so it's probably just cardio he is referring to. That's probably reasonable. He doesn't look that out of shape to me.

Yeah 3 weeks to get his "fat [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.]" "in shape" is pretty fast... wonder what a typical day is like for him

Three weeks doesn't mean game conditioning guys, it means normal first day of training camp conditioning. There's no way he's "Kobe" in 3 weeks after sitting on his butt for the last 5 months. He'll take 3 weeks to maybe join the guys in practice and then another week or two before he's actually ready to play in a game. Then another month or two before he really feels comfortable out there.

This is far from over, but it's encouraging that he's been cleared for full activity.

I can't wait for the court announcer to call Kobe's name, with every fan in Staples standing up and cheering.
It's gonna be awesome.
"The first time I ever saw my uniform hanging in the locker I put it on right away, and it just felt like I was putting on golden armour. From that day forward, I just called it 'the golden armour', it just felt like there was something mystical and magical about it" - Kobe Bryant.
