Kobe Bryant Discussion: Reason for Lakers downfall?

If your question is describing transplanting Kobe's brain into a body that size then I think you have just created the ultimate Frankenstein hoop monster.

Maybe I'm just foggy this morning, but I remember him really using this move:
-Wilt on either block, let's say left.
-He dribbles with the left hand towards the middle of the basket
-He uses his right hand to duck over/around the defender and lay it in/dunk it

That was the move I remember seeing the most. I know he had other moves, but for the most part that's what I remember. Please correct me though, I can sometimes have a terrible memory for these things.

There are a few decent youtube Wilt vids but I don't have them bookmarked. He of course had dunks with either hand, he had the finger roll, he had kind of a half jump hook-push shot, and he had a solid turn around fade away. But, the thing was he could do any of those from any starting spot in the post. Wilt tends to get overlooked in post skills because he gets thrown into the overpowering brute category with Shaq, but he was more skilled than Shaq and really took pride in his skills, not just his brute strength and size.

I didn't mean to imply he was a brute, far from it. I just didn't remember his moves very much because I wasn't quite conscious back then. My comparison to Shaq stopped at effectiveness, not actually comparing the two in terms of game.

I knew he had the finger roll and that's what I remembered most. The rest I didn't consider his go to move I suppose. I'm definitely not implying that he COULDN'T operate in the post, just that he I didn't recall him being as nimble, varied, and sound as Kobe was. He was obviously every bit as effective.

^^ Loving that Wilt highlight video, btw. The ultimate beast in the post. When I was growing up Wilt Chamberlain's name was almost synonymous with basketball. Later Dr. J would take over in terms of popularity, but as far as the sport itself it was like he was the literal giant of the game - he stood above everyone else in terms of perceived impact.

To be fair to myself, he used that finger role more than any other shot in the video. :man1:

The hack a Wilt in today's league would probably be hard upward slams at the elbow trying to hyper extend it while Wilt was doing the finger roll. Just like they were trying to wrench Clown's right arm backward once he had the labrum issue. Of course Wilt was taller than most but I never quite got that shot. But hey it worked then.

In this interview taken recently, Kobe explains he expects to be back by November or December

Also, 0:17 Kobe out of shape???

Kobe Bryant injury: Lakers star rehabs in Italy, expects a November or December return
By Kevin Zimmerman  @offensivelyfoul on Jul 21 2013, 2:30p 3

USA TODAY Sports
Though there are murmurs that Kobe Bryant could return to the court as soon as August, he said while vacationing in Italy that November or December are realistic return dates.

Even though Lakers guard Kobe Bryant is ahead of schedule enough where he could be ready to return to the court in August, there's still an uphill battle to overcome. On Saturday, Bryant was interviewed by Forza Milan in Italy, where he was on vacation. Bryant visited his favorite soccer team, AC Milan, but also had rehab work done on his torn Achilles tendon at the Milanello Sports Centre.

Silver Screen and Roll : More on the Lakers' offseason
A translation provided by the Los Angeles Times' Eric Pincus has Bryant remaining cautious.

"I'm here on vacation but I still have to work and improve on recovering from my injury," Bryant said in Italian (translated for The Times by Jason Negri of USA Basket Notizie).

"It is difficult because I can't do much, but I am getting stronger every day and I am hoping to return by November or December."
On Friday, Lakers vice president Jim Buss guessed that Bryant could be ready to play in the preseason. That guess lacks medical evidence, but Los Angeles area orthopedic surgeon Dr. Robert Klapper tweeted a few weeks ago that Bryant would easily return by the NBA's regular season opener.

Bryant tore the Achilles on April 12 in a game against the Golden State Warriors.

Yet as I watched him Monday, I could not help think how little it mattered and how right he is. He is not fading into the shadows. He does not know how to go out that way.[.]

The perspective on that photo is crazy. Kobe is virtually right next to Yasiel, maybe a 1/2-1 foot max in front but it is making Puig look tiny. Hell he's only 2 or 3 inches max shorter than Kobe and yoked to weigh 240lbs, and he looks puny there. Hey hey hey ......maybe that's how much Kobe has been lifting since he can't do much with the legs yet?

I don't know man Puig still looks pretty damn big to me. :man10:

I got some company tickets this season and got to be right next to the dugout and let me tell you that kid is absolutely ripped. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he juiced.

how much of a coward the last center was
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.
