Would YOU Amnesty Kobe?

Would YOU Amnesty Kobe?

Postby thisbjgz on Sat Apr 13, 2013 12:49 pm

Tons of speculation about Kobe being Amnestied. I know personally I would never because he's meant so much to the franchise, but it's because Lakers can save so much money etc via luxury tax etc worth about $80million.

Ramona just tweeted and quoted Mitch "That's the furthest thing on our minds"

Would you?

No, because it means he would not be able to play for us for a full season. What if he comes back in 6-8 months, this being Kobe? Then we'd be without him. I realize the cap hit we take, I realize 30 mil is a ton for a guy in a suit, but the PR hit the franchise would take, risking losing him for any time he COULD play next season, I just wouldn't do it.

I would say do it if it benefits both Kobe and the Lakers.

1. It gives Kobe the full year of recovery time. He can come back strong.
2. Lakers can save ton of money. The money they save now, can pay Kobe for the new contract.
3. Does the CBA even allow the Lakers to sign Kobe back after the last year of his contract ended?
4. Will the Lakers have enough cap space to sign Kobe for a big contract when he is ready to come after the year off?

On top of that, Kobe may have better chance to win his 6th ring with other team after the year off because the Lakers are so far above the cap and can't sign any great players to improve the team from here on... :bang:

I don't think Kobe wants to play elsewhere for even just a year, I think he wants to retire a Laker and he will retire a Laker.

No. It is the right thing to do by him. It is best business decision, too.

no...it's classless, regardless of the business side of the equation. maybe, if and only if it's kobe's idea to do it, but i don't ever see that happening.

besides, i can honestly see another wtf moment (a la mwp recent resurrection) where kobe comes back to start the season, or relatively shortly thereafter and just amazes us again with his inhuman ways.

Can't even believe this question is being asked.

With everything Kobe has meant to this team and this city, you let him stay as long as he wants.

Yes, I would amnesty Kobe...

IF Kobe gave his blessing. AND IF Kobe agreed to re-sign with us for cheap the following season. AND IF the extra time he'd have for rehab would significantly improve his recovery. AND IF Mitch were able to use the savings from the amnesty to re-build a championship team around Dwight that included our "future" wing player. AND IF Kobe agreed to take a smaller role on this re-built team when he returns the following year.

So no ... I would not amnesty Kobe.

Only if this was his idea and there is some clever plan behind it that will make us good again, giving Kobe another chance to win it all. In that case, sure, I would. Now, what would that scenario be?

I would reconsider my fanhood if Jimmy kicked him to the curb. That's how much Kobe means to L.A.

I would consider this the betrayal of all betrayals and anyone supporting this amnesty decision should reconsider himself if he´s truly a Laker fan. This thread shouldn't even be open. The guy gives you what no other NBA player would of given you and he gets hurt and what do you do... you dump him? Slap yourself if you want Kobe amnestied.

No.
There is something to be said for loyalty. Even if he misses all of next season, it just sends the wrong message.
The Lakers paid Magic and Worthy even when they weren't able to play anymore. No reason why they can't do that with Kobe. Cutting Kobe lose at this point in time dirties up the premier brand of the Lakers, a brand that is worth a billion dollars at least.

Personally I don't see mgmt considering doing that.
