I applaud the move, its grooming him. Look toward next year where Blake likely leaves for more money and Nash is done. Farmar can be retained if he's told he can start most likely, so teaching X to be the backup Pg for 20mins a night can't hurt to try and retain him too,

I worry, but it's an experiment that's worth trying. Developing his ball handling and PG skills can only help him.

Especially if it pans out and we have a 6"6" backup PG surveying the floor for the pass :man1:

I mean I think of it as more of a point forward as Meeks will likely run. With him and defend the pg. Kerr and Harper used to play together and do the same, same with Shaw and Fisher

He's going to become a very dangerous player if he steps up his passing & takes care of the ball.. He's already very good at penetrating to draw the defense, if he makes good decisions off penetration & finds guys for open looks/gets to the line when nothing else is there, he'll do a great job of getting us through this stretch without Farmar.

Let me say another reason why I'm okay with this is if Kobe's starting at SG. With Farmar going down, Meeks can backup Blake while X handles the ball. A 99 cents store Kobe and fish if you will

beast mode. Super efficient and effective in only like 15 mins. 0 TO too. Kid attacks all night and got fouled on literally EVERY drive he scored and didn't get a whistle. IDK whatsup with that but I hope refs see that he's a legit player and when hes in hes gonna attack adn get a lot of contact and still finish so he should be getting to the line more.

Hope his minutes dont diminish and becomes a bench warmer bc he can seriously ball. On the road is a different story but hes only 22 and is finally getting a legit shot and hes not disappointing. Prob could have done more damage if Dantoni didn't take him out when he was balling. Bench mob behind X goes on a big run, he made no mistakes, and he gets taken out for Kobe. Prob should have road him a bit longer before putting Kobe back in.

Xavier Henry's L.A. Story

How a lottery washout resurrected his career on the Lake Show

By Jonathan Abrams on December 18, 2013

Xavier Henry pump-faked and shot the lane. He saw the rim but never his unsuspecting victim. He took flight a step past the free throw line, cocking the ball back in his left hand. Thwack. Henry's spectacular fatality of a dunk over Jeff Withey, the Pelicans' rookie center and a former Kansas teammate, was an instant, unforgettable posterization. And the message was clear: Jump, 7-footers. Or risk the wrath of Xavier Henry jumping over you.

Keeping faith >> When he set foot in this city nearly 3½ years ago, Xavier Henry was considered a highly touted draft prospect that could help the Memphis Grizzlies toward a deep playoff push.

Henry, whom Memphis selected with the 12th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, never did that. A right knee injury sidelined him for 35 games his rookie season. The Grizzlies then traded Henry the following year to New Orleans, where overlapping injuries buried him on the depth chart. "I was just faithful to God and stayed true to the Bible," Henry said. "I perservered through it. I've been doing that so far in my career. It hasn't been easy,"

The Lakers signed Henry to a one-year deal this offseason with a partially guaranteed contract worth $884,293, and the move became a good investment.

Henry only posted five points on 2 of 8 shooting in the Lakers' win Tuesday against Memphis. But he has averaged a career-high 9.8 points on 44 percent shooting in 20.1 minutes per game. He has also shown marked improvement from November (6.8 points on 37.9 percent shooting) to December (13.9 points on 50 percent shooting).

"I'm trying to solidify myself and have a great career," Henry said. "But it doesn't happen in a day. I can't have too many highs or lows. It's about pushing through the whole season."

He's still having issues scoring on the road, but at the same time he's improving from what I see because he's finding other ways to continue. Playing PG and taking care of the ball, getting some assists, defense, he doesn't look like he's not contributing anymore out there just because he's not scoring as much on the road. To me anyway, I could be biased as I really like the guy.

I like this kid. He has a ton of potential. We have seen what our player development looks like if we take his growth seriously. What I like about Xavier is the attitude he brings. He has winner written all over him but as you all know you have to fail before you succeed. I think that dunk he did on the Clippers with the stare down at the end showed me a lot in such a short moment. I hope we sign him long term!
The Lakers are my drug of choice.

I read these quotes a couple weeks ago and agreed and now a number of games later X is not doing that badly at all. It has been good for his ball handling. And being a taller player like Kobe, he can pick up tips from him in that area as well, just like Swaggy P in his areas of interest. I'm sure Kobe respects both of them and their games. And Wes too.

With the same quality of skills being taught as at the Big Man's Camp that was run by Pete Newell and Stu every summer, the Lakers have in effect Swing Man's camp here with Kobe. Not hyperbole, none better skills wise ever.

^^ Very cool article above. I'm a huge fan of X. Love this kid. He's struggling to find consistency of course, but his upside is big. He's my favorite new Laker. Wes is growing on me as well. I hope we can keep both of them. I also hope we can hold on to Farmar, Young and Hill. Those five are great to have on our team.

Totally agree. He has the best NBA body of any of them and he seems to have the perfect blend of "I want to personally embarrass you/I want to do whatever I can to help the team." I really hope the front office signs Henry, Hill and Farmar, even if it's at the expense of signing Melo. Having 3 contributors like that is more valuable than a one-side-of-the-ball prima donna.

If we sign Hill, Henry, Farmar, Bledsoe and Monroe in the offseason...I will be ecstatic. It's not a title contender, but it's got a lot of potential.

He has the potential to be the best, but he's not there yet. Great NBA body, nice shooting technique, but it doesn't always translate on the court. Some offseason work will make wonders for him. But I definitely see his potential, since he is super athletic and young, and can force an unbelievable amount of fouls, to be converted to free throws. Now he just has to hit those. 62% won't do. Improve that, bring 3pt shooting up to 40% and the kid is a beast. Since he only 22, we should try to lock him with a decent contract and then develop his talent. I see him (22), Young (28), Hill (26), Wes (26) and Farmar (27) being the future of this team. They are slowly entering their prime, and most of them still have room for development. Meeks I like this year, but perhaps we could use him in a trade or something, we'll see.

I'm with ya…. I've always liked Monroe's "lunch pail" approach to the position….. a little toughness at that position would be a nice change. Farmar should be kept as should Hill. Hill is going to cost decent money IMO unless his injury history bites him again. Guys like him are making 6M to 8M in this league.

Outside of the fall he took that messed up his hip and back , his injury history has looked like every other NBA player. Sprained ankle, tweaked knee, etc.
