Another pretty rock solid performance by X. He's really improving in terms of his road play. Making more shots, looking more comfortable, playing pretty good D overall. I like what he's doing out there.

I'm really liking this kid the more I see him; he needs to be more consistent in his FT shooting, though. Nevertheless, we need to re-sign him. He's a must have for this team now and in the future...

That's why I think they not only re-signed Kobe to the amount of money they re-signed him to, but also why they did it so quickly, so that they don't drag Kobe's free agency into the summer and show the rest of the league how the organization treats its superstars.

At the same, we still maintain a decent amount of cap flexibility in the next two years, we can do the stretch provision on Nash's contract to save us alittle bit more and we can keep new contracts on 1-3 year time provisions. Plus i'm kind of over the whole getting super stars through free agency and I think the provisions of the new CBA discourage it in some ways. I want the Lakers to rebuild through the draft because you have the potential of acquiring really good players on decent length, cheap contracts, while preserving cap space (i.e. Paul George, Lance Stephenson, Chandler Parsons, etc).

How do we rebuild through the draft when we traded every other 1st rounder until 2019? We have our 1st this season & then again in 2016. So we'd need to remain a lottery team this season & for the following 2 just to have 2 decent first round picks. If we were in a situation like the Suns where we have no big contracts + traded our stars away for multiple 1st rounders, there might be an argument for building through the draft. Not only do we not have the picks, we're talking about the final 2 seasons of Kobe's career here. No way we don't make moves to try to contend again before 24 hangs em up.. It's never been the way the Lakers operated.

Yes, I am aware that we've given away alot of draft picks, i'm just saying moving forward (beyond the Kobe era), the Lakers should value the draft a little bit more. Obviously, putting all your eggs in one basket is bad regardless if it's too much attention on the draft or too much attention towards free agency. There needs to be a 50/50 balance.

And people need to start accepting the fact that more likely than not, Kobe's last two years will be wasted. I'm sorry and honestly I hope i'm wrong, but we don't have pieces to trade, enough cap space to spend (at least on multiple max contract players), or like you mentioned enough draft picks. The best we can hope for is that we draft a stud on a rookie contract, like IND did with Paul George, we retain key players from our current group of young guys (Farmar, Henry, and Young) for cheap and with the remaining cap, maybe sign someone to a max contract in the summer of 2015 to compete for a title in Kobe's last year, but all of this is a tall order.

Xavier Henry's MRI showed a bone bruise in his R knee, according to a league source. He'll be sidelined 7-10 days, then re-evaluated.

So, 2 weeks minimum.

Depends on the degree.... Drew's first knee injury was a "bone bruise".

Wow. :man10: :man6:

I just don't even know what to say anymore. That's nothing to do with overplaying or with playing the PG for our team, that's just another injury. Crazy what's happened with our team the last couple years.

He will end up being out a month.

The tweet about the "abnormality" found in his lateral meniscus makes me feel like this is more than a 7-10 day let's re-evaluate type of injury.

Coming from knowing literally next to nothing about this kind of thing, it makes me wonder if all these injuries could possibly have anything to do with the strength and conditioning training and coach.

Like could all these injuries be a product of not doing the right things while working out?

Maybe. Way too many injuries for this to be completely random.

from how i look at things now... portland is the place where players get career ending injuries... los angeles is the place where players get constant and unexplained nagging injuries

-The whole league is injured ... the game has become too athletic and too fast imo AND most teams play their main guys too many minutes ...

-I laugh when I read these type of comments from NBA players " I stopped eating junk food and it does wonders for my shape " ... Really ? :man10: ... some players are too fat to play B-Ball ( Deron " the Burger King" king Williams) or have a poor hygiene of life ... everybody can't be Boris Diaw and make it look easy)

- As for us , it's more of a result of old players , injury prone players and guys who aren't used to play big minutes or 3-4 games a week ( Farmar back from Europe , X)

Nash's for all practical purposes WAS career ending. Kobe's may very well end up being career ending. Pau's yeast infection has proven to be career ending.

Lakers' Xavier Henry increases workout regimen, optimistic for return

By Mike Bresnahan

January 12, 2014, 1:45 p.m.

The Lakers desperately need some healthy guards. They might get one soon.

Versatile reserve Xavier Henry did some running, cutting and shooting Sunday and followed it up with several minutes of rotating one-on-one against player-development coaches Mark Madsen and Larry Lewis.

Henry has missed six games because of a bone bruise and what the Lakers initially feared was cartilage damage in his right knee. He will be evaluated again Monday.

"There's still some issues that only get better with time," Henry said. "I think I'm close to being back, and I'm not sure how long, but it's feeling better."

Henry said it was possible he would play Tuesday against Cleveland. He is averaging 10.1 points in 21.8 minutes and has started five games this season.

Henry’s return would be welcomed by the Lakers, who had two healthy guards -- Kendall Marshall and Jodie Meeks.

Henry smiled when asked about the outcome of the one-on-one games. Madsen was the winner.

"He hit a good jumper on me, so shout-out to Mark," he said.

Wait, he lost against Madsen?

How is that possible? I mean, I know he's strong and probably weighs around 260, but come on. X is 22.

Yikes. He's certainly not ready yet if he's getting beaten by Mark Madsen with a jumper. :man10:

Hope D'antoni wasn't watching that practice session.. If he sees Madsen knocking down jumpers he'll have him replace Shawne Williams.
