Lakers have a level of interest in Xavier Henry, from what I hear.

He's more of a swing and in the Lakers' plans this season we need as many of those as possible.

I like him actually. He's not a world beater and he's not worth his draft salary, but he's a very good athlete and a decent body.

I'd give him a camp invite.

The Lakers should just sign as many players like this as possible and bring them into camp. Best 15 make the team.

Nash / Blake / Farmar
Kobe / Meeks
Young / Johnson
Hill
Pau / Kaman / Sacre

11 guaranteed spots, 4 spots up for grabs.

I think that's pretty much their plan. That's why guys like Williams and Harris are coming to town too.

I liked Henry when he entered the draft, definitely didn't live up to the potential or hype. But much more interested in him than I am Mr. Pete the 35 year old or the gun toting Telfair.

“@KevinDing: Lakers acknowledging need for perimeter defense with Xavier Henry, Shawne Williams and Elias Harris now all signed to compete in camp.”

“@KevinDing: Unlike Shawne Williams, who can hit the 3, left-handed Xavier Henry can't do much on offense but drive left.”

“@KamBrothers: The @Lakers announce they've signed 6'6" guard Xavier Henry to what I will assume is a non-guaranteed deal. BK”

Nice. A 6'6 shooting guard. AKA normal.

Our guards tend to always have something wrong. This one has normal size for a SG but can't shoot. :man10:

I like it. The Lakers are good at picking up these first round "busts" and realizing them for what they are: role players.

I'm not saying that's what Xavier is, but he's still got the potential for it.

Lakers make it official, sign Xavier Henry. He gets camp invite, shot at roster. This is a better gamble than bigger name people discussing.

The name is familiar, but I can't recall his career at all. Still, this is a season of gambles and tryouts, so if this is about perimeter defense as mentioned, then I'm all for it.

i'm ok with it. he's shown flashes, has an nba body. I believe he's had some trouble staying healthy, right? he's also another in a long line of limited offensive players who have torched the lakers at least once.

You know what's funny? Henry's picture is photoshopped with a Laker jersey on.

Shawne Williams isn't.

This guy tries hard.... I'll give him that. He competes but has issues scoring at a typical scoring position. This isn't a typical offense so it may just work in short stretches.

watched some YouTube clips and I guess his positve attributes are his ability to read/react off the ball, find open cutting lanes, and getting down court. It's weird though, he doesn't ever dunk. He crafty in a jerky way around the basket but never a on dunking finisher. Also, his best attempts at 3's come off of movement and fading sideways.

Nice to see Mitch and Co looking at former lotto guys to fill out the roster versus the Laron Profit's of the world. As others have said, it'll come down to he, Harris, or Landry for that last spot.

Slava laughed at the suggestion his skills might be affected by the down time. "Are you kidding?" he said. "Basketball is like ball. It's all a circle."

"nba body" is just another word to cover up his overall horribleness....if anyone recalls the Graham brothers had FOOTBALL bodies and they sucked.
