I watched the Kings on league pass last night. The whole game was basically on the shoulders of Pedja and Bibby... Christie is looking weak this year...Miller is in a funk and Webb aint what he used to be. However, Bibby and Pedja seem to be able to elevate their games to carry the team. They are able to get Webber involved in the action and get him alot of low post scores by opening up the floor. Jackson is pushing the tempo for them as well and he seems to be at full strength this year.
The Lakers need to contain Bibby... He has the ability to put up 30 points and hes done that many a time before against the Lakers.
Pedja cannot be allowed to establish a shooting rythem. Last night we saw how a player in the zone can BURN you as Desmond Mason seemed to be in that area in the second quarter. Pedja can get into that type of rythem at any time form behind the arc. We need to keep a long quick body on him all game.. Lamar would seem to be the ideal guy to cover up Pedja, but he'll have his chops full keeping Webber out of his favorite spots. Caron is gonna have to step up on D. Hes shown thusfar that hes a hustle player on defense and will do what it takes to keep his opponent down... The best thing would be for him to take it to Pedja at the other end and try to get to the line and get him in foul trouble.
Miller is a wildcard. I don't know what he will be able to bring against us, but I do know that Mhim is more than enough to handle Miller who got simply destroyed by Yao last night. If we were able to survive Yao ming, miller won't be a big deal.
Now the biggest problem that looms over the Lakers heads is giving up those leads. Its probably the only consistant thing about this team...we take off sprinting out of the gates and blow it all in the second quarter when the reserves come in.
Yesterday it happened when Lamar and Mhim went out of the game...
I haven't payed attention to what exactly sparks the comebacks by those other teams but my best guess is that the Lakes start to cruise when they get that big lead. Rudy gets comfortable with the lead. He gets comfortable and puts Brian Cook in...but if he isn't hitting his shots, hes letting other teams get easy scores in the post...giving them just the spark they need to get back in it.
The remidy for this is simple...when the team tries to push the ball and come back, the Lakers need to take it right to them... Instead of trying to play conservative in that situation, they need to come right back and match the other teams score... A 6-0 run against us is forgivable... if the other team scores 6...the Lakers need to somehow score with quick strikes. A 6-0 run can easily turn into a 12-0 run...
