I believe he means as the last line of defense at the rim. Pau's man/one on one defense has always been solid to good IMO, like when he gave Dwight an extremely hard time in the 09 Finals.

Oh, well he's never going to be Dwight like in that regard. Ever. He never has been. But I wouldn't say his D is BAD per se tonight since his man on in the post is good.

For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.
