It's on Brown. Severe adversity brings out the A game. Lakers have done it without Kobe in previous years...

FWIW, what Pau and Ron did against the Clips was fools gold IMO. One good game doesn't make up for a season of disappointment. If the time ever comes where New Jersey is willing to talk trade, you don't even need to think twice.

Lakers converting scrubs into all-stars, like Dunleavy and Gooden :bang:

This team just isn't very good. It's not as bad as some recent Lakers teams were(Pre-Gasol, Post-Shaq era), there is still plenty of potential, and sure, a lot of it can be attributed to having a new head coach and whatever, but bottom line is there is nothing about this team that suggests they are one of the top teams in the league, or even in the upper third for that matter. Even when they have little spurts and runs and you start to think "oh, okay, they are figuring it out" they just... aren't. They actually aren't figuring anything out, and their inability to string baskets together with any consistency while failing on almost every other measure of offense, is exactly the type of thing that ~.500 teams tend to struggle with.

I'm not about to say it is time to blow it up and start over, but unless something fundamental changes, and fairly soon(shortened season and all) this team is going to be fortunate to get an 8th seed.

Amazingly, Kobe/Fish/Goudelock/Morris: 20-38
Forwards and Centers: 16-44

How the hell can our 3-4-5s shoot 36% on 44 attempts?

It used to be the joke that there was always one player the Lakers would elevate to all-star status on any given night. Lately it has been entire teams.... and it's not a joke.

Well Morris scored as many points in 50 seconds of action as Barnes did in 21 minutes, MWP in 19 minutes and more than Mcbobs in 13 minutes.

I know it's garbage time, but we need more production from those 3 players if they are going to play that many minutes.

It's terrible, but we scored 85 points. Defense wasn't the biggest problem.

Tonight it was on both sides of the ball.... defense is just effort.... and that lacked tonight.

The guards were guilty of a lot of non rotating and losing the perimeter players....

Kobe didn't have a great game, Andrew was just O.K. and Goudelock was decent but after than it was a crapfest out there.....

Lakers defensive effort is keyed by their offense. The Lakers are doing reasonably well defensively.....but aren't scoring enough to cover for their defensive lapses.

Kobe and the 2 Drew's came to play. The rest of them were AWOL.

On a positive note, Goudelock looks to be the real deal, a legit albeit undersized scoring guard off the bench. Looks like those of us who were hoping for a Gary Neal type were spot on.

Take Pau and MWP out of the equation and you got 9-20 for everyone else.

Pau and MWP 7-24. Not good.

I bet the lakers lose tomorrow too.

I just don't understand Kobe. How can he be this passive and start passing up the ball (like he did in the first half) when his teammates (Gasol especially) play with no effort whatsoever. He should be passing the ball like this in games like Wednesday's against the clippers, when everyone was into it. Now his passing doesn't do nothing for the team, he might be making it even worse: like many have noticed, some players in the team get really passive when Kobe isn't being agressive. They must figure that if he's not giving it his all, they are excused too.
That's why I completely understand and support his 4th quarter style of play tonight. Those guys didn't deserve to get the ball.

I like him, but not at the PG spot. His handles scare me. Sadly we need him out there where ever we can put him because he is our only perimeter offense besides Kobe.

Kobe is trying to play PG because Fish can't. It's not working.

We need a PG to feed the bigs and Kobe so Kobe can just be in gunner mode. He doesn't have to decide to pass or shoot. The PG can decide to do that.

We need a guard.... Kobe shouldn't be the initiator of the offense. Not that he can't do it, but as you pointed out earlier.... he is passing for the sake of passing and in the process not shooting makable shots. Goudelock can shoot the rock but I swear I could advance the ball better than him out there......

I think Brown just needs to find some damn rotations and stick with them. We always used to bag on Phil for frustratingly leaving players in for longer than necessary and sure he lost some games because of that, but in the bigger picture, I think he understood chemistry and rhythm and knew not to mess with the lineup arbitrarily or reactively whenever things weren't working in the moment. That 'bigger picture' thinking was a big part of what made Phil a great coach. Brown seems to get scared/confused whenever something isn't working and immediately goes into scramble mode to find something that will. I'd rather the Lakers commit to a team and eat a few losses than stumble around with who is getting what minutes when and still eat a few losses. Either way, we're far enough along into the year that I don't think the "still learning the personnel" argument stands up anymore.

Bring him off the bench with Blake when he comes back and play Kobe on the wing.

Yep...pretty much. Kobe's a very good passing shooting guard. That doesn't mean he's a very good point guard.
