a win would be nice FOR ONCE

im sick of seeing them lose with 4 HOF's on their team

when we all thot we'd have problems on offense in sharing tha ball, the real problem was DEFENSE...

luckily we're playin a team that has no Defense

i cant make a prediction but i say the mavs will win somehow on a GW by walker...111-109

What, you really think the Lakers will lose to a team that has no defense. Who is honestly going to guard Shaq?
Kobe Bryant is better then Michael Jordan.

Lineups:

Center: Shaquille O'Neal - Danny Fortson
Power Forward: Karl Malone - Antoine Walker
Small Forward: Devean George - Dirk Nowitzki
Shooting Guard: Kobe Bryant - Michael Finley
Point Guard: Gary Payton - Steve Nash

Gonna be a hard one. The X factor in this game is Devean George. If he can play like he did vs the Clippers and do a decent job on defense we should be fine.

Lakers 107-100
"Sitting in the house, I'm loadin' up the pump. I'm loadin' up the Uzi. I got a couple M-16s, a couple 9s. I got a couple joints with some silencers on them. I'm just loading clips, a couple grenades. I got a missile launcher with a couple of missiles. I'm ready for war." - Kevin Garnett

I disagree... the X factor in this game is Kobe. If he's feeling good, we'll win for sure.

Slava laughed at the suggestion his skills might be affected by the down time. "Are you kidding?" he said. "Basketball is like ball. It's all a circle."

This game may not be down to the wire after all....

1) The Lakers are so pumped up for the season--and after what I call "slacking off" in the preseason by just going 3-5 (surely the Lakers had enough talent, potential, vets, and skills to hone on the court) they should be ready from the start to the end.

2) The Mavs haven't beaten the Lakers in a Staples Center game for eternity. Dirk Nowitzki was not even five years old when the Mavs went on their insidious losing streak. If the Lakers lose, not only will they go 0-1 to start the preseason, but they'll be so embarassed, even if the Mavs are also reloaded.

3) Kobe: The X-factor. He seems ready for the season, though. As Karl Malone put it, "From the start of the season to the end we're gonna steamroll every team that bounds in our way." Prove it to us and beat these Mavs.

My predictions: Lakers 113 Mavs 110

The game of no defense....or is it good offense?

The Mavs haven't beat the Lakers at Staples since 91. That's almost 200 games vs the mavs/lakers at the forum or at staples with the Mavs losing.

We're still in their head and everyone on their team knows it except for Walker and Jamison.

Knock on wood. Hehe.

I think the Mavs will overshoot themselves out of a victory. But we really need to step up on defense. Both teams will come out hungry and re-energized so I predict a good game down to the last minutes.

:jam2: A lot is going to depend on Kobe. If he can't go over 35 minutes we might be in trouble. The Mavs are just as loaded as they always are, even more so than last year. But they always choke in L.A. They're a lot deeper so we can't go all game trying to outshoot them.

A lot is going to depend on DEFENSE. You know the Mavs don't have any. Asking Kobe to go 35 minutes might be asking too much especially for a team that likes to run and gun with the ball. The Lakers will have to play defense and get physical with Dallas. I honestly don't think this game is going to be a thing of beauty since both teams are just getting acquainted with one another. I hope Shaq and Kobe can shut up long enough for us to win this first game. We have to start off in grand style. We can't slide in the beginning, not in this stacked Western Conference. :man4:

Ok... so the only judgement we base our theories so far is just the preseason, right? I dunno about ya'll but I have a feeling we're gonna handle their butts pretty well. This is our season opener, and I think we'll come out in style, and play some decent ball. It's gonna be a tough game, but we need Kobe to play like Kobe.

Disagree'd, with... or without Kobe Bryant, this Lakers team can win a championship and gain wins. Simply because of Gary Payton. With him attacking like he does, running the court like he does, and just playing like he does, we will gain the wins.

I think out of the choice of him and Malone, Payton will make the drastically bigger impact.

108-99

Mavs will win. We are going through too much right now. The Shaq and Kobe issue, I think that will hamper us some. It sure won't be the way I wanted us to start our season. I guess we won't get ot do what Malone wanted us to do, and dominate everyone starting from game one. We won't be able to make a huge statement by destroying them tomorrow. ANd if for some reason, Shaq picks up his game :man10: and we do win, we will barely beat them.

No Kobe? Damn!

Well, we gotta remain optimistic here:

101-98

Lakers edge out the Mavs by last second free-throws. We get a big contribution from Derek Fisher, while Payton and Malone score a lot as well. Expect Shaq to come strong... he better.
