Kobe Carries Lakers in Opener
With the score tied and 0.6 seconds left in overtime, Kobe Bryant drained a jumper with two Nuggets in his face to lift the Lakers to a thrilling 99-97 win in Denver on Wednesday. Bryant's 33 points helped Los Angeles usher in the 2005-06 regular season and the return of Phil Jackson to its sideline on a positive note. The Lakers make their home debut on Thursday when they welcome Steve Nash and the Suns to the Staples Center.

Here's hoping the Lakers start out this season with a win

This will be a tough opener though... on the road against a solid team.

Slava laughed at the suggestion his skills might be affected by the down time. "Are you kidding?" he said. "Basketball is like ball. It's all a circle."

Phil was so anxious to get the reg. season started and he didn't seem to mind so much the pre-season (as usual). He's going to MAKE them win this game.

if he didn't mind the preseason, then why did he let 4 starters in when the kings only has 1? :man3: i guess he wants the starters to learn how to close out games....

I hope we get the win but realistically Denver is gonna be really tough. I just hope a bunch of people dont start panicing if we lose. Denver is the better team.

Exactly. If everything goes they way expected Denver wins but somehow I always feel that Denver isn´t as good as they sound to be. They are playing very good D and O but somehow I always feel they are over-rated. I consider Odom overall better than Melo and Kwame CAN easily be better than K-Mart (he really can do it). Camby is 10 times better than Mihm but Kobe >>>> Lenard and Miller is better than Smush but with the pressure D we should be able to slow him down. Our problem is going to be offense since Denver can play tough D and create easy offense as a result of good D. Thats where this game is going to be decided. Can we stay focused and how is our bench going to play.
I´m very excited (I know its tough) but I somehow also feel that Kobe Bryant will GO NUTZ just to show the world "I´m back with a vengeance and you better take me serious this time".

My prediction:

Final Score

Lakers - 105
Nuggets - 102

Stats

Kobe - 45 points 6 boards 5 assists 4 steals
Lamar - 18 points 10 boards 8 assists
Kwame - 15 points 12 boards 2 blocks
Mihm - 12 points 9 boards 1 block
Smush - 14 points 4 assists 3 steals

'Melo - 35 points 10 boards 4 assists

Save this cause I guarantee this will happen.

Kobe will score 45 and the lakers WILL win!!!
