Memphis / Lakers / Houston

Forum rules
As you may have noticed, there are two new sub-forums in this forum -- Sourced Rumors and Trade and Signing Ideas.

All threads should go in one of these two places. And here is how you will determine where to post (this will also help you know where to look for particular threads):

All topics created in the Sourced Rumors forum should have a source (hence the name of the forum). State where you heard/saw the rumor and a link if applicable. Good sources would be an online article or a respectable blog by a member of the media. Radio reports or summaries from TV reports (ex. Bucher on ESPN News) are also accepted, but the staff will have a quicker trigger finger with regards to these two, especially if they are being posted by a member who's credibility is questionable or if no one else heard/saw the report. This is due to the fact that people often fabricate reports for various reasons. Only sources which directly mention the Lakers or a Lakers player should be reported in the Sourced Rumors sub-forum.

Trade and Signing Ideas: in short, this is where everything else goes. Suggestions of who the Lakers should sign or trade for. Reports of other teams' players being on the trade block. To differentiate these from general ideas/suggestions, please continue to use list the source in the title, just as we did with the sourced rumors prior to the creation of the sub-forum (ex. ESPN: Nuggets looking to move Melo). Such reports would not go in the Sourced Rumors forum because they do not directly relate to the Lakers and any discussion that the rumor would spawn would be speculation and trade suggestions. Any "inside" rumors from family, friends, or other sites should be posted in the Ideas forum. Once it is supported by a sourced member of the media, it will be moved to the Sourced Rumors forum.

If you are still uncertain of where to post your topic, post it in the parent forum, Lakers Trade Rumors, and it will be redirected by a staff member.

Memphis / Lakers / Houston

3 way trade between Houston / Memphis / Lakers

Houston trades - Martin / Scola / Hill
Houston gets - Pau /

Memphis trades - Mayo
Memphis gets - Blake / Hill / 1st

Lakers trade - Pau / Blake / 1st
Lakers get - Mayo / Martin / Scola

Houston doesn't have to give up Dragic or Lowry and get's to keep them to play with Pau. A plan they originally intended before Stern effed everyone over. Houston gives up Martin and Scola, which is a fair trade for Pau and something they were willing to do before, minus giving up a PG. They trade Hill to Memphis because they are declining his option anyway (We can throw in some 2nd rounders to make them happy). We can give them Ebanks or any of our youth as well, but I don't think it would be necessary.

Memphis gets a solid backup PG behing Conley to add some depth for their playoff run. Blake will give them veteran experience off the bench and lead the team while Conley is sitting. Hill gives them an extra big behind Gasol and Randolph. Speights and Hill and backup PF/C is a solid big man rotation for them. They lose Mayo, but they never have been high on him anyway. Also they get 1 First Rounder which they said they wanted 1sts for the guy.

Lakers needed a PG for sure, but can you really turn this down if you are the Lakers. We get two top of the line perimeter scorers, which in IMO will mask the PG problem because both of these guys can create and play better defense then anything we have. The added scoring punch on the perimeter will open up things for Kobe, Pau and Bynum because it is one more person defenses can't forget about. Scola is a suitable replacement for Pau and a perfect compliment for Bynum. Who needs a PG when you can have Mayo / Kobe / Martin on the outside. A late game unit of Mayo / Martin / Kobe / Scola / Bynum is just downright deadly.

Mayo / Morris / Fisher
Kobe / Martin / Goudelock
Barnes / MWP / Ebanks / Kapono / Walton
Scola / Mcbobs / Caracter
Bynum / Murphy

Not to mention Mayo expires this year and would be great sign and trade, trade bait for a really good PG if need be.

Do it Mitch. :jam2:

I like the idea, but Martin is wasted off the bench in such a limited roll. If they make this trade, they need to move some of the SFs and clear room for either Martin or Kobe to spend time there.

It's definitely a good problem to have and a better one then we are in right now. As for finding minutes for everyone, I'm glad I'm not the coach if the trade went down. :man10:

Losing Pau means we lose our backup Center as well. To fix that problem, I think it's a backup center by committee with Scola, Mcbobs, Caracter and Murphy all seeing minutes. Looking at the center position around the league there aren't too many teams with centers that would dominate our backups. (D12, Gasol, Hibbert come to mind).

As for SG/SF rotations, you would have Kobe, Martin, Barnes, MWP. This is where a good head coach who recognizes matchups comes in to play. Obviously vs. the Brons, Durants, Melo's you want Barnes and MWP out there, but vs. teams that don't have guys like that Martin and Kobe can get away with being on the court together. MWP can also play the backup 4 as well.

Depending on the matchup I could see something like 33 minutes both for Kobe / Martin and 15 both for MWP and Barnes. But with a backup center by committee, I can see MWP getting more run at the 4, which will leave more time to split between Kobe/Martin/Barnes.

All that and we haven't even gotten to Mayo yet. :man10:

That would be a good trade as long as you aren't a Griz or Rocket fan.

Rockets were into Pau to pair with Nene. Doubt they're excited enough about Pau /Dally to make them move Martin, Scola and Hill..

O.J.Mayo is not a PG. He is shooting guard. Why we will need four back-up's for Kobe?
Mayo,Martin, Goudelock and JASON KAPONO.We need a true PG like Kyle Lowry or Rajon Rondo. :man4:
