Lakers, No 2010 First Round Draft Pick?

Lakers, No 2010 First Round Draft Pick?

Postby TKainZero on Sat Feb 20, 2010 7:09 am

If i remember correct, part of the Gasol/Gasol trade, was LA sending 2 first round Draft picks.

2008 and 2010

Draft picks also cannot be traded in Back to back years, this is why they sandwitched the 2009 Draft pick.

Now, only, in the 2009 Draft, the Lakers SOLD that pick to the Kincks.

That is 3 years in a Row, with ZERO young talent added.
Their Youngest Player is in his 5th year with the team.

Think about that.
Youngest player on the Roster has been in the NBA for 5 seasons.

Combine that with no first round pick this season as well.
That means, next season (barring Trades or FA signing) Bynum will again be the youngest player on the Roster, in his SIXTH NBA SEASON.

Then, after the 2011 Draft, going into Bynums 7th Season in the NBA, will the Lakers MAYBE have someone younger then Bynum.

This is the guys 5th season as being the Baby on the team...

Can we get some young blood in here please?

And, no one has a thought?

I mean, There is not much to say...

Other then if some phycologist has some insight on the effect of Bynum Being the youngest player on the team, over, and over and over, year after year...

That has got to have some mental effect on him.

when you've been to the finals for 2 straight years, won 1 of them, i think i can live with having crappy draft picks/trading them/selling them

it's not like this year's draft pool is insanely deep

Thats what they said last year...
And, if the Lakers had kept their pick, they could have Picked someone like Dejuan Blair.

It is just hard to bring in any young players, when you only have 2nd round picks.
There is a serious lack of young players on the lakers

last year's draft pool was filled with a lot of 'potential talent'
i don't exactly know where you're getting your perceptions from
guys like darren collison and chase budinger would have been former lottery picks had they declared earlier and those same guys ended up getting drafted late

this year's draft is pretty good if you have a lottery pick. other than wall/cousins/favors, the freshman class (jordan hamilton, eric bledsoe, xavier henry), though highly talented, haven't shown much or need more minutes and i expect them to stay in school to build up their profiles. teams could gamble on them in the first round, but they are talented enough to move into a lottery position.

2011. We have four picks. Two in the first and two in the second rounds. If we keep them, that should be fun.

Who did we get our other 1st round pick from?

In 2011 the Lakers have their own 1st and 2nd round picks plus 2nd rounders from the Knicks(Toney Douglas trade) and Heat (Patrick Beverley trade).

We're not so bad at 2nd round pick selection. Look at the list of sucessful recent picks :

- Luke : Even if you're not a big fan, you can't call him a bad pick
- Ronny : Great guy, great heart. I'd love to still have him with the team. He'd bring something from the bench that no one has in this team.
- M. Gasol : Never played with us but brought us his brother. And looking at the way he plays, the trade for Pau looks more and more as a great one for both team.

So even if we only have a second round pick, I still have hope for a good surprise.
Offseason's finished for my long sleeping nights. NBA is back !!

The Lakers have the 43rd pick in draft from Memphis and will get a good player with that pick, Mickhail Torrance should still be on the board. Plus there is talk LA could trade up in hopes of getting Eric Bledsoe at mid to late first round. Avery Bradley they like too, but he will be gone.

No they have a first and three second round picks next year. Don't be too shocked to see some of next year's seconds combined with maybe 43 this year to get into first round.

Phil doesn't play inexperienced players, let alone rookies. That should explain why we haven't had any draftees as of late.

The Gasol trade is why they haven't had any draftees lately coupled with last year's insistence on keeping team together after winning the title. They preferred money from selling draft picks to help resign Odom to getting young players. San Antonio and Phoenix have done same thing a lot, I personally don't like that. I feel they could have found the money for Odom and still kept that first or second round pick. There was some good players available at those picks and if nothing else put them on D-Fenders for a year. It's been debated to death about to sell or not sell draft picks on here and no one has changed their opinion. The ones who thought LA did right thing still feel that way and then the ones like me who didn't like still don't like it. Hope they are able to get a good player out of this year's draft.

He actually does...they just have to contribute consistently. He doesnt have tolerance for stupid play or silly mistakes from young guys.

I agree though with the O.P. You cant fall into what happened with the previous Championship team where it just got older and older.
This is the time when we really need to find some raw potential in the 2nd round and try to develop it into contributing talent. Always be thinking 2 years ahead.

I hope they take an international player and let him develop overseas ala Marc Gasol.

The draft is June 24 and is usually on ESPN and NBA Channel (I think). I know one or other has it on though. It starts at 7 EST.
