Updated with those participating in the group workout in Minny.

Plus, the announcement of the Lakers first two workouts later next month -- Pargo and Ingles.

We must really like this Ingles kid, we've taken a look at him at least three times...possibly four (counting the workout). Here's an article I posted in Feb. about the Lakers sending a scout to go watch him:

I'll be a happy man if we draft one of these guys:

Guards
Nick Calathes
Marcus Thorton
Greivis Vasquez
Paddy Mills
or
PF
Dejuan Blair
Magic Johnson: The most complete player in NBA history!

Blair will be out of reach. But if he managed to slip to 29, I'd take him.

Right now, unless Sasha improves, we need another SG. Thorton or Ellington would be great.

We have 3 picks this year, can't see Mitch even considering getting any additional picks.

Added Thornton to the workout the Lakers are holding on the 17th. That's the second time we'll get to see him (he's also going to be at the Wolves uber-workout).

are those rather "small" PF height wise? Or doesn't matter in this league now with the chuck hayes and Paul Mislap of the leagues? Man I'm not giant but I dont think 6-7 is good for PF.

I think it really depends on the player's build. To make up for what they lack in height, they either have to make up for in athleticism ( like Tyrus Thomas -- 6-7 without shoes) or in sheer body mass (Millsap, Hayes, Craig Smith). Blair's 265 pound body won't have any problem making the transition. But someone like Damion James (Texas) or Gani Lawal (GT) might not have such a smooth transition. If they can't handle the bigger guys at their position, teams will be forced to try to convert them to a SF which rarely produces results because they struggle with quicker SFs defensively and/or don't have the perimeter skills needed at the position.

This is why a lot of the tweener PF/SFs who aren't a sure thing will slip into the 2nd round. Low risk, high reward.

I will say that guys like Millsap, Hayes, and even Brooks have probably done a lot for undersized players in this draft; whether it's at the PF position or the PG spot. They're showing teams those type of players can have a place in the league under the right system. So this could help the smaller PGs (Flynn, Mills, Rice, D. James, Woodside) and some of the above mentioned bigs make a case for themselves.

JSM: Why are we looking at guys like Evans and Curry if they're going to be far from reach?

Anyway....
say no to: Harangody, Calathes, Hansbrough, Ingles

Everything I'm reading on Ingles says he's soft and inconsistent. No thanks.

Give me Thornton, Maynor, and maybe Blair.

Might as well expand that to: Blair, Budinger, Curry, Evans, Flynn, Hansbrough, Lawson.

But to answer your question, the Lakers aren't actually bringing anyone in during the 2nd-3rd. That's a workout the Wolves are hosting and to cut costs, a bunch of teams are splitting the tab and joining in. Here's more on that:
viewtopic.php?f=30&t=110650

The Lakers have only setup 3 workouts in LA, as far as I know, and that is with Ingles, Pargo, and Thornton.

I know hes not on the list, but im big fans of local product jrue holiday...and listed, darren collison.
as much as im not thrilled with jordan faramar right now, those two players are much stronger defensively and although they lack farmar's explosiveness, they play a much more well rounded game. Whether theyll be there is much to be seen as holiday will probably be a lottery pick after workouts, and collison likely selected before the lakers pick...Also like Eric Maynor although he's probably way out of reach.. lastly, i really like Gani Lawal, very athletic and his motot never stops running and i happen to think he has a very high upside...

JSM, Jermaine wouldn't be a bad pick at 42 in my opinion. If Sasha doesn't find his shot again, Taylor might be cheap alternative. Have you seen him.

I saw him in a couple games this past year. Against Memphis and then either Tulsa or Houston (I can't recall which, I just know he finished with 35), then highlights from his 45 against Rice and a couple other of his prolific scoring games. The kid can flat out score. His D is a little suspect, but few play D on our team anyway. He has the size to right most of his wrongs on that end of the floor, I think. I don't think he'll be there at 42. He's had a few strong workouts already with the Thunder, Rockets, and Spurs. From what I've read recently, he's projected to go early 2nd round (and that's where Draft Express currently projects him).

James Johnson, Gerald Henderson, Wayne Ellington, DaJuan Summers, K.C. Rivers, Jimmy Barron and Josh Shipp will be added to the list tomorrow. They participated in a group workout and Lakers were one of the teams that came to see them play. Probably helped on scouting costs that it was held in LA.

i would like to work a sign and trade with Lamar to get James Johnson or DeJuan Blair. I know it wouldn't be a straight up trade, but I don't really care about particulars just would like to have one of those two kids. They are tough and physical

I like James Johnson, but there have been some games where he just flat out disappeared. When I seen him play live here in California during the Anaheim Classic Tournament he looked a step slow and not there completely mentally. Overall he had an ok tourmament, but with his ability and god given talent there's something that makes us basketball fans seem to wonder what it would take to get him to play up to his ability.

Updated. Lakers attended the Warriors group workout this week. Some of the same players who were scheduled to appear at the Minny workout were also at this one. Meaning they either opted to skip one of the two or we saw some of them twice this week. The only name I added was Beverley because he wasn't on my list of those participating during the 2nd-3rd.

Here's a report from Katz on the Warriors workout we attended:
viewtopic.php?f=30&t=111682

I'll wait for confirmation that the Lakers were there for the 2nd day of the workouts before adding the names from the group workout the Warriors held on Tuesday.

I may be way off the mark, but I don't see LA drafting a PG with the 29th pick. After listening to Mitch today, I think they are either going to sign a PG thru FA or trade for one. I think they know they need another veteran at PG to start and not another Collison or Douglas to be a backup. They have 3 backup PGs now. Fisher will be kept, I see them trading Jordan and resigning Brown. Then at 29 if they keep the pick I see them taking a forward or a shooting guard.

I would be STOKED to get Tyler Smith. I've watched his whole career, the kid can ball! And he has a great heart, I've talked to him a few times.
