ChinaBroadcast: Jiangsu Nangang's young center Tang Zhengdong will leave China to head for the United States for a week-long trial in the NBA.

During his stay in the US, the 2.13-meter-tall player will attend special training sessions held by the Los Angeles Lakers and the Toronto Raptors respectively.

Tang, who turns 22 this year, has automatically entered into the NBA draft in June.

The CBA MVP in the 2003-2004 season withdrew from last year's draft as he did not meet that criteria.

Very interesting. NBADraft.net is showing LA taking another Chinese player in round 2: Sun Yue, a 6-9, 205 shooting guard who is 20 years old.

Strengths: Probably the only big guard in China with a combination of height and agility... Owns a quick first step ... Has great court vision... Loves to attack the basket ... His team is trying to make him into a PG ... a great dunker can windmill, 360 ,easy... Unlike many Chinese players, his age is probably correct ...

Weaknesses: Not a natural PG ... He's still very skinny, must bulk up ... Not a great ball handler ... not a good shooter yet, but has good touch ... Still must improve upon his shot selection

The guy seems pretty akward of a player, but I haven't seen him in action yet.

Edit: I'm imagining if this had read I'm not racist, but I don't like those blacks or I'm not racist but I don't like those Latinos...

I don't think it's the same guy. I think the 7-5 guy is like Sun Yin something. I know he wasn't very good. Like he made rookie Yao look like the Flash and Yao was slow as dirt back then. I know last year's draft he was projected to go undrafted so he dropped out.

China has some good young prospects. There was this guard at ABCD last summer that is going to be a quality player. I would have to look up his name.

No.

I think you're speaking about Yi Jianlan, Yao's teammate on the national team. He's pretty agile, athletic, and young. Right now he's 7 feet and pretty skinny, considered to have an SF/PF skillset. Ballhandling, and a soft touch around the basket. Known for impressing in international competition and dominating Chinese players older than him. He's pretty popular over there.

You could also be talking about 7'8 Sun Ming-Ming. The guy simply does not have a chance of being in the NBA. Like most bigmen his size, has absolutely no mobility, very poor condition, is missing too many skillsets and is simply way too slow to be in the NBA. The Lakers worked him out last year.

That's the same thing they said about Euro's until they started balling. Now, they are all looking for the next Dirk.

Let us not be too hypersensitive about these things.. so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt being from Latvia and all, he probably meant as basketball players and not the color of the skin...

Most Asian basketball is played from the outside in (except for Filipino players who are so NBA influenced that they won't find success in international competition anytime soon)..players are taught to shoot outside and are encouraged to take advantage of the three point line..even Yao was shooting threes in the Chinese league :mhihi:
